“Perfect place for family”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

We just returned from a week at Villa Del Mar. We stayed in B101 and it was just ideal for our family of 4, kids aged 3 and 7. Having the pool right beside the patio was so convenient. The apartment was so well laid out and equipped. Having a washer/dryer was great to get beach clothes/swimsuits cleaned up easily. The beach is a minute walk away through the beautiful Grace Bay Club. Stunning, stunning beaches in TCI. We rented a car for one day and drove to Taylor Bay Beach. This should be listed as an eight wonder of the world. What a hidden gem of a beach. A bit tricky to find but so magnificent. Shallow water for hundreds of yards, and good snorkeling at where it gets deeper. The hotel lent us umbrellas and beach chairs which was good as there is little shade there. We will definitely return to Villa Del Mar for many years to come.

Room Tip: B101 if you have kids.

We knew nothing about Turks and Caicos and had a hard time deciding what we needed for our family of 6 (including the grandparents). We decided to try Villa Del Mar because of the free breakfast and easy beach access. So glad we did! The breakfast is just cereal, pastries, juice, etc. but it was great for us. Prices for food on the island are very, very high. And being able to grab a couple of extra boxes of cereal to take on out snorkel trips really worked well for us. All of the staff were super friendly and professional. Really cant say enough about them!

Beach front would have made it a 5 for location but the 2 min walk to the beach was no issue at all. The smaller pool did look in need of a a little clean up but again no issue. Is definitely out choice on a return visit.

Made the decision to stay at the VDM after reading reviews and looking at pictures....and we weren't disappointed! Great location - within minutes of a spectacular stretch of the beach, shops, restaurants and the grocery store that we frequently visited. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and spacious. Loved the fact that we had a washer-dryer in the room....had a lot less laundry to do when we returned from this trip. Breakfast was pretty good - cereal, fruits, danish pastries, juice and tea/coffee. The grounds are very well maintained and the surroundings quiet. The gym was a little small - can only accommodate 2-3 people at once. My one recommendation would be to avoid the rooms on the ground floor as we had a lot of mosquitoes.....made it a challenge to enjoy our time on the patio. All in all it was a great stay & I would highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: As mentioned earlier avoid the rooms on the ground floor - lots of greenery which translates to lots...

Villa del Mar was a very good value for the money. We stayed 7 nights and got the 5th and 7th nights for free for a 2 bedroom condo. Unit was very nicely decorated with updated furnishings. No restaurant on site but there is a tiki bar in between the 2 pools and hot tub area. This is also where the daily complimentary continental breakfast is set up. The property is located directly across a small road from the Grace Bay Club which is where you access the beach. Villa del Mar has an on beach attendant to assist with towels chairs umbrella and water. Can't say enough good things about the immaculate daily housekeeping. Patrina at the front desk was fantastic. She steered us in the right direction for dinner choices. All excellent. IGA is not far from the property but we strongly advise you rent a car. We used Hertz and couldn't have been happier with them. Took a snorkel trip on Island Vibes Tours set up for us by the beach attendants. They were super helpful every day. Shawn and Luke took us out on the excursion... a great time on a 1/2 day skorkel trip. Saw Iguana Island... magnificent. Shopping isn't great but Regent Village and Saltmills is where to go. Ate at Bay Bistro (our favorite), Mango Reef, Hemingway’s, GreenBean, Seaside Grill & Grill Rouge. We will be back for sure.

We just returned yesterday from a one week (Sat to Sat of Memorial Day weekend) stay at Villa del Mar, and I almost couldn't wait to write this review. This was our first visit to Turks & Caicos, and I doubt it will be our last. As a family with 2 young kids (3-year and 1.5-year old boys), space, cost and amenities are very important to me when booking our annual Caribbean vacation, and Villa del Mar exceeded all expectations.

We stayed in B104, a 2-bedroom (1 BR + den) condo on the first floor. I requested a first floor room based on other TripAdvisor reviewers with young kids, and it was very good advice. Easy access to the pool/bar area meant that my boys could safely play on the patio while I walked the 50ft to pick up (free) continental breakfast for us every morning. It also made it easier for bringing home the sandy beach toys without having to walk with them through the condo. The condo itself had plenty of space for the boys to run around and having separate bedrooms meant that my husband and I could still stay up to watch TV or read after the boys went to sleep. And with two TVs and DVD players (one in living room and one in master), we could even watch different shows! The fully-stocked kitchen gave us the flexibility to feed the boys at home before going out as well as bring home leftovers from the restaurants. The bathroom was very large with a separate shower and bathtub - again, great for parents. My favorite part was the washer/dryer which meant we could bring half the amount of clothes that we normally do, and it meant we came home with suitcases full of clean clothes, so no post-vacation laundry!

I took previous reviewers at their word and didn't fret about the fact the resort is not on the beach, and considering the money I saved by doing so, I'm glad I did. The walk was very short (less than 5 min) and safe (requires crossing a low traffic street onto the Grace Bay Club property). In fact, we were able to leave the double stroller at home everyday. Once you got to the beach, it was a short walk to the area reserved for Villa del Mar guests, where the very friendly beach attendants were quick to set you up with plenty of towels, chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, excursions, etc. Unlike other islands we visited, most people did not seem to swoop in to claim their spots first thing in the morning and then not come back for hours. Maybe it's because the beach attendant regulated the area or because with such a spacious beach, there was no need to fight for a prime spot, but in any case, that in itself was a welcomed change from our past vacations.

Back at the hotel, there were two pools and a jacuzzi, which were never crowded. In fact, on some afternoons, we were the only ones there for hours. The larger pool had a very large shallow end, so my husband and I could relax while the kids played in the water. The smaller pool had a smaller shallow area and seemed perfect for those who wanted a quieter, kid-free zone.

Lastly, the staff was very friendly and took excellent care of the property and the guests. Location-wise, the property is within walking distance of the supermarket and restaurants, which was important to us, since we did not rent a car. Overall, it was easily one of our best family vacations, and we definitely plan to return.

This hotel was a great surprise and now I am recommending it to all my friends as a best buy for families. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite. The thing that worried me the most was the fact that this is not beachfront property. You have to cross the street and walk through the Grace Bay Club property to get to the beach. This was not as much of a pain as it sounds. It took about 5 minutes door to lounge chair. This is about the same walk as some garden view rooms at oceanfront property. The lounge chairs are attended to and you can get food and drinks. Since the property's bar is in the main building, the attendant has to walk back to the lobby to pick up the order. This can lead to long wait times for your order. On the plus side, you are on the nicest stretch of Grace Bay beach! We walked up and down the beach and the area right in front of Grace Bay Club is the nicest. It is just the right width and is well maintained.

The suite was fantastic. Everything looked brand new and very clean. We cooked dinner on two nights (dinner our is pricey on the island) and were thankful we could all hang out in the room. It had a terrace the looked out towards the ocean. Kind of an ocean view if you look between two buildings but it was nice to have. There is also a bbq grill by the pool that we used. This was convenient and there's nothing better than enjoying a beer while grilling up some steaks!

Service was friendly. If you asked for something, it was accommodated in a friendly manner but we felt it could have been a bit more attentive.

Overall we were very happy with the property and particularly the price. It was a lot less expensive than beachfront properties but offered most of the luxuries and more conveniences than a standard hotel room. For families i don't think this place can be beat. Unless you are fabulously wealthy and can afford a big suite at the Grace Bay Club (or the likes) this is the best place to be.
