“Really loved the Leeward resort”
Reviewed September 3, 2011

I vacationed here with my family from August 27 to September 5th. We arrived just after Hurricane Irene had made her grand entrance. The property was beautiful, but it is definitely bouncing back from all the wind and rain. The beach is small and man-made, but it affords lovely views, and the water is crystal clear and warm. (Not like the frigid New England waters back home). The resort is clean and tidy and just about every morning, the resort staff sweep the walkways clear of sand and other debris. This is one well looked after property. The staff here is supremely helpful; the Leeward is very lucky to have Donn as their property manager. You have a question, he has an answer, or he will find it. The staff manager, Nicola, is also amazing. Between the two of them, this resort is exceptionally well run.

While you can book through the resort (Allied Management), we discovered this unit and contacted its owner through www.vrbo.com and dealt directly with him. The room is really delightful. It is on the second floor facing the beach and is accessible via two stairways. There are two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen/dining area/tv room, and a washer/dryer in the unit. Each bedroom has a connecting bathroom, a king sized bed, and a flat screen TV. My parents shared one room, and my sister and I, the other. Our room is spacious; containing a king bed, two side tables, a dresser (the drawers themselves are not very deep), two lamps (one per bedside), and a ceiling fan with dimmer light (at print, the light does not work). There is a large walk-in closet and the bathroom has a shower/bath combination with one sink, but plently of counter space.

All of the appliances appear to be new and top of the line. The kitchen is a dream, although do beware the cabinets; the doors do not stay open, one must hold it open. All of the cabinets and drawers are seamless, even the refridgerator melds into this streamlined kitchen concept. The stove is electric, so do ask or Google if you're unsure how to use it. The kitchen is pretty well equipped with various dishware, glassware, silverware, pots and the like. And did I mention lots of cabinet space? In this particular unit, do be careful when opening the fridge door, it swings open and can hit the wall if you're not watching it.

There is a cleaning crew who comes daily, and if you don't want to be disturbed, leave the unti's conch shell outside the door. It's the island's version of "Do Not Disturb".

We booked our unit during the slow season, so it's been nice and quiet* during our time here. A few people do live permanently in the units, but most rent out. And this being August-September, DO bring bug spray and anti-itch ointments. After 4pm, it really gets buggy here, but any time during the day, and especially before and after a rain shower be prepared. The skeeters and no-see-ums are the worst culprits. I recommend a product like Off! with a high percentage of DEET. I have Off! with 98% DEET, and I've still gotten multiple bites.

And sunscreen. Anywhere in the 30+ range during on your preference.

I hope my review helps those looking for a place to stay in Provo. My vacation time here has only been one of doing alot of nothing-and it's been great!

My wife and I along with our baby daughter traveled here for 4 days in May 2011. The resort itself is beautiful. Very new and very quiet. The room itself was probably one of the nicest accommodations we have ever had irregardless of price point. We had a 1BR on the ground floor. The plush accommodations were akin to a very high end condo. The finishes, fixtures and appliances were all very high end. The kitchen cabinets included stainless steel pots and pans as well as high quality cutlery (which has to be a first. High end knives that are actually sharp in a hotel room?). Blenders, coffee maker, toaster were all there. Washer Dryer was a fabulous high end Bosch Unit that although compact, made our own home condo's washer/dryer seem pitiful when we returned home.

The bathroom is gigantic with a huge tub and shower combo. The living room was a nice size as well. The only so-so feature of the entire room was probably the sofa. An unusually cheap looking tiffany blue velor small sofa, but that is just a very minor gripe.

The resort itself is very quiet. There were only a few other families there during our stay. Sunchairs outside are great and nice quality. The small beach is very nice as well with great views of the Bay.

We did have an incredible problem with mosquitos here. Not sure if this can be attributed necessarily to the resort, but the first night I found myself with possibly 20 mosquito bites. A record even for me! My wife who never gets bit even suffered several bites. We had asked for a crib for our daughter but next day after sleeping in the crib tht her face had about 6-7 huge small little bites in a row on the lower part of her face! We suspected bed bugs but could not find them. After that first night our daughter slept with us on the bed and suffered more "normal" looking mosquito bites but no more of the bites she had previously experienced that first night. I found myself personally spending about 30 minutes each night viewing the walls and killing probably 10-20 mosquitos a night. Let's just say this resort in the time that we went was a mosquito haven. But for what it's worth that may be the case on the entire island.

Overall the resort is everything you could want as long as you understand that there is no dining outside of what you cook for yourself in the kitchen. That might be a huge minus for some people. Be aware that the resort is quite a trek to the nearest supermarket in the Grace Bay Area or Grace Bay itself. Even though we were fully aware of the location - admittedly after trekking back and forth everyday, we started to find the back and forth a little taxing ourselves and found ourselves wishing occasionally for at least a small bar on the premises.

One strange thing that happened to us is that we used the in room safe with no problems. Two days before we were to leave the safe malfunctioned. We had all our passports and valuables contained within! The management informed us that they did not have the code and in fact all the safes in the rooms had been removed because they tended to malfunction in this very type of circumstance! For some odd reason our room had the last sole safe that was grandfathered in from the previous owner but for some reason had not been removed. Ultimately someone came to the room and drilled it open. It made us a bit anxious the entire thing but to their credit the management handled it very calmly and fixed the situation.

To summarize, the resort is beautiful, new and high end. The rooms have great amenities and are beautifully furnished. The small beach, bay and pools are delightful. But this place is more of a secluded condo type resort with no dining, drinking or entertainment options to speak of. The resort is also fairly far away from the heart of the town.

If you are someone who is really concerned with the accommodations themselves - the room, the size, the amenities, you have a family and like to utilize the kitchen - then doubtful you will find a nicer place in all of Turks & Caicos, let alone for the fantastic price they charge here. If you want some people around, some dining and drinking options, or some entertainment then you should certainly look elsewhere.

We read many reviews before we arrived and understood all of this beforehand. We decided it fit our needs. Even having said that, at the end of the stay we did wish we would have stayed somewhere more closer to town with at least a place to get some cocktails during the day. This place is nice and a bargain but again quite secluded.

So first off I have to say the manager of the hotel Don was awesome!! Before we coould even get out of the car, he had started getting our luggage out and had our keys all ready to go. We had a 2 bedroom on the 3rd floor and to say it was beautiful is an understatement. The beds were amazingly comfortable, all new appliances in kitchens, a/c worked great, beautiful deck which looked directly at the ocean, and there was even a washer and dryer! There is no restaurant, but there is so much space in the kitchen that most nights we would eat in or go down to the pavillion area and BBQ. The housecleaning staff was quick and efficient and no need for toiletries, they have Bvlgari amenities! This is a top notch place and the stories Don tells are amazing, just make sure he sings to you, he has an amazing voice!! We will deifinitly be back!!

The Leeward is a rental residence hotel with a swimming pool. The setting is at the eastern end of Provo island near a marina. The Leeward area is partially developed and a nice, quiet neighborhood. This is NOT a resort - just clean, beautiful condos with a great pool and small, nice beach. Pros: quiet but close enough to Grace Bay for shopping, restaurants, and groceries. Near ferry to North Caicos. Cons: can feel a bit desserted as this used to be the Nikki Beach and restaurant/bar remain but are closed. You need a car for exploring but are very close to the public beach. Golf and tennis available at Provo Club for non-members. We would stay again as furnishings were beautiful and we liked having the kitchen and laundry.
We also enjoyed being away from the crowded area. For casual fare, try Upstairs and Hemingways. P.S. Great haircut and blowout at Tangled with Brigitte!

We picked the Leeward after reading many reviews as well as info in the Fodors travel books. My husband and I rented throught vrbo.com and had a one-bedroom king suite on the 4th floor. If you want a loud, popular beach get-away, this place is not for you. Quiet, solitude, and peacefulness are the ideas to come to mind if you stay here.

The view was spectacular - breakfast on the balcony with views of the water and the beach below. We liked that we were on the 4th floor since our balcony was open. Ones on the first and second floor were screened in. The kitchen size, pots and pans, and other appliances were in perfect shape and added to us being able to eat in for a few of our meals.

Donn was very helpful as other people have mentioned and always greeted us with a smile and sincere hello.

Things the website doesn't tell you: teal colored beach towels are provided to your room each day (very helpful), there are some pool floats available to you (think of a random assortment of inflatables that people have probably donated), our unit #409 came with paper towels, dish soap and a sponge.

Driving is on the left. You have a free rental car so use it. The maps that are provided to you are really general - think of elementary style map skills. There are zero traffic lights and several roundabouts to navigate around. It gets easier after the second day.

We loved Pelican Beach which is near the Leeward for its isolation and sweeping beach views. Also, the public beach near Turtle Cove (head to the beach on the right) is gorgeous and empty, also.

Food options - I brought some non-perisables from home to save some money. A 2 liter of soda is $4. A cantalope is $5.40 at the local IGA. You will have sticker shock while food shopping. We liked Da Conch Shack for its local appeal as well as quaint view of the beach. If you like bars and bar drinks, head to the Grace Bay Club and go to the Infinity Bar. Gorgeous view of the water. The Tiki Hut has a great Wed night price for ribs, mashed potatoes and veggies for $14. The portions are very large and filling. We liked getting to restaurants around 6 to avoid having to make reservations as well as having our choice of seating. We went during the low season which was very helpful.

We stayed at Leeward July 3-9, 2011. There were three couples in our group ages 26-38 and we had a two bedroom two bath suite with an extra king bedroom/bathroom lockout, which suited our little group just perfectly since each couple had their own bed and bath. The resort is breathtaking. We pretty much always had the beach to ourselves. We had brought our own snorkel equipment and we saw lion fish and even a stingray up close in the water right outside the resort. We also drove to and snorkeled at Bight Reef and Smith Reef and I would highly recommend both. They are both great expense-free day trips to take since parking was free and most beaches are free in Provo. I will say that if you are looking for nightlife or to be pampered at a swim up bar or on site restaurant this is not the place for you. We went grocery shopping and cooked dinner most nights in our suite. The kitchen was top notch and had high end appliances and finishings. It was a joy to cook there and I don't even like to cook! Also Leeward provided us with a seven passenger vehicle so we had dinner out a couple of nights as well. If you stay there I would recommend driving a few miles down the road and having dinner at Danny Buoy's. Its an Irish Pub with GREAT food at a good price. About a block or two away from Danny Buoy's is Jimmy's Dive Bar. We stopped by there quite often for drinks after dinner. We had a few great nights meeting locals and tourists alike at that place. All in all it was an unforgettable trip!!

My husband and I stayed at Leeward in July. We drove up in our complimentary car that we recieved when we arrived at the airport and were blown away at the resort. First of all, we were greeted by a big smile from Donn the manager. He could not have been more accomodating or helpful. He was a wealth of information and happy to offer suggestions. What a gem!! The rooms are just as shown with spectacular views. All high end on down to the bath amenities. We enjoyed relaxing on our deck and sitting in one of the several hammocks on the beach. Somedays we were the only one on the beach. This is a quiet place,( although the island itself is low key) , perfect for chilling out from a hectic work schedule. We will definately be back. Thanks Donn for a great stay!!

Room Tip: We found our room on VRBO. We were on the 4th floor with great views. The first and second floors...
