Mitch and his staff are spot on. Couldn't ask for a more amazing time visiting the cays and snorkel spots around the island. Highlight was Salt Cay - a must do on top of listening to the whales singing!!!!!! AMAZING!!!! From Audrey, to Nat, to Chris (Oregon) - all are so very knowledgeable, inciteful and most of all, FUN!!!! This group is a must when traveling to Grand Turk. We will be back to get re-cert in diving in June as what we saw snorkeling was amazing..... therefore can't wait to dive again!!!

Spent a week in Grand Turk diving with Blue Water Divers and was very satisfied. Diving with BWD was easy and laid back, just as we like it. The shop is professional and organized. We did 4 days of 2 tank morning dives and one night dive. Conditions were slightly variable throughout the week in terms of visibility but dive sites were chosen to try to optimize visibility. We loved that the dive masters were always ready ahead of time and that we could get our morning dives in and be back by lunch. Grand Turk does not have "blow your mind" underwater reefs and fish life but there is plenty to see and no current to deal with. One major plus... we got to see a humpback whale breach out of the water right in front of our boat one day. Listening to the whale songs underwater was also very cool.

We had a great time diving with Blue Water, they were incredibly nice (especially Vicki!) and lots of fun to dive with. We had two great dives along the wall, and it was a blast. We highly recommend Blue Water divers, and would go back again!

At Blue Water, customer service is job 1. Sorry to steal the old Ford commercial line, but truth is truth. Mitch, Audrey, Vicki, Nat, Trevor, Chris are the reasons our trip and adventures in the water were fantastic. Our schedule required some tweaking, and with one dive master on vacation, the fabulous folks at Blue Water went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. Great knowledge of the water combined with a vast knowledge of island activities make the folks at Blue Water the "go to" people for a great time on Grand Turk. Oh, and make time to go see Mitch play at the Osprey on a Sunday or Wednesday night. Great dinner show!

We booked this snorkeling tour with Blue Water Divers via their website/e-mail. It was about the same price as the cruise tour, but with 3 participants rather than 50. We heard later on that the cruise one was a fun "party" (if you are looking for that!) but that you could only sit knee-to-knee with other participants on the boat.

Our guide, Chris, was fantastic. He was kind, informative, helpful, funny, and just let us enjoy the experience in that way that suited us best. Snorkel, mask (including 1 prescription one), fins and bottled water were provided. It is a short $5 per person ride from the cruise dock (and a ride was easy to be had) to their shop, across the street from the Osprey Beach Hotel (there are no addresses since the island is so small).

Since the water was very choppy that day, they took us in the back of their pick-up truck back to the cruise ship area to load on the boats. It would have been nice if we could have been met there to begin with, as it would have saved us time and a little money and the not so safe ride. We had asked about meeting at the cruise dock, but that isn't normally part of their service. Fortunately, the boat did drop us off here at the end, so we saved the $10 ride back. And we found delicious jerk chicken at Jack's Shack ($9).

The good news is that you are never too far from the cruise ship, so there isn't a big worry about not making it back in time for embarkation. Some of our cruise mates had chosen to snorkel off the beach that day, but did not see really anything as the water was cloudy from the choppy waves. Fortunately, our awesome guide Chris took us first to a coral area near the governor's home that is part of a 20 year experiment using electricity to speed the growth of very slow growing coral. We saw many fish and a turtle in about 30 feet deep water. Then we drove about 5 minutes further out, at most, to see the Great Wall where it drops from 30 to 1000 feet. Amazing! Some areas were blue with no visibility, but other areas were very clear. We just swam around in the areas where we had the best views of the sea creatures.

We definitely felt that the small group and attention of our guide was worth the cost, and was preferable to our style than the cruise excursion or going on our own. You may wish to note that there is also a large restaurant with pool and lazy river at the dock called Margaritaville, that would be fun for kids. So that is an option as well.

We had thought about using another provider from TA that was in walking distance of the dock and cost $5 less for the snorkeling (and plus would have saved the $5 pp cab ride cost each way), but were swayed by the prescription goggles (only one pair at -4, I believe) with Blue Waters. They might be a good option if you don't need those or bring your own.

The pros of Blue Water Divers were that we were in a small group so we didn't get kicked in the head by swarms of cruise excursion divers, we got caring personalized care, and we could stay in the shallow or deep area for a longer or short time as we in our group of three chose--something you can't offer a group of 50. It was quieter and less of a drinking party atmosphere...a great fit for us!

TIPS--it would be great if BWD could offer a paypal or other secure method of payment. When I didn't feel comfortable e-mailing my credit card number, Vicky kindly called me over the phone.

It would be great if BWD could meet folks at the dock in the boat or a land vehicle, to avoid the cost of a cab!

BWD requires a minimum of 4 in a party and we didn't know until the week before if our group was a go or not, as we only had 3...so we each offered to pay $20 extra to make up the difference. If you don't have a minimum of 4 in your party, you can use a roll call on cruise critic to drum up interest on your ship...or you may choose to use a provider with enough guests already registered for your date and time.
