We signed up for the excursion through Carnival Cruise lines. I can't really remember what we paid exactly, but I remember the price being reasonable. You are driven to a small shack out in the sticks and given a tour of the islands, plant, and animal life. You also kayak up and down a small lagoon in glass bottom kayaks so you get to see the sea life as well. This is an excursion for all ages; the kayaking is in very shallow and calm waters. The staff is fun and entertaing and very knowledgable. You get to sample fresh out of the water conch. Just keep in mind that this isn't about the kayaking. Yes, you do get to go kayaking on this excursion. But, it's much more about the eco tour. Had a great time and would happily pay to do it again. I highly recommend this for all..

Oasis Divers provided a great snorkeling experience on Grand Turk. The reef and sea life were more than expected. Swimming with nurse sharks and watching them being fed was really great. There was an abundance of other fish with rainbows of color. That part of the excursion was well worth the money. The stingray encounter was just the opposite. Compared to a similar experience on Grand Cayman this encounter was a complete waste of time. Two stingrays and 50 tourist enough said. The crew on the boat was very good and provided a very safe snorkeling experience, however the stingray encounter was just the opposite. Would highly recommend just a snorkeling excursion with Oasis Divers, skip the stingrays.

Original Review:

I want to give Oasis the benefit of the doubt and assume that the actions of one divemaster don't reflect on the entire operation. Capturing and terrorizing porcupine fish until they inflate is NEVER OK, and it was particularly unfortunate to see it happen again even after we expressed our disapproval. After the second incident, we talked to the manager, who assured us that she shared our concerns. Hopefully if enough guests say something, the message may finally get through. I doubt we were the first group that was "entertained" by torturing an animal.

To their credit, Oasis runs on island time and doesn't make you come up after 45 minutes with half a tank left. You can dive as long as you like without worrying about sticking to a schedule. The boats are small and basic, but when you're 5-10 minutes from the dive sites and returning to the shop after every dive, who cares? Getting in the water is easy, but getting out requires a bit more effort since the boats don't have proper dive ladders. In calm water it's not that bad, but I can see it being more of a challenge if it ever gets rough (it didn't while we were there)

My impression is that they try to get a read on each group, and set their supervision level accordingly. We were pretty much left alone (sometimes literally) because of our experience level, although after talking with the manager, we realized it would probably have been in our best interest to discuss our expectations and requirements the first day rather than leave it to guesswork. While their flexibility is commendable, it's easy to misinterpret the group's needs if they aren't discussed in advance.

Subsequent to our trip, I learned that Oasis and its owner have been EXPELLED from PADI (see for yourself at padi.com > About PADI > Quality Management > Consumer Alerts). I have no specifics beyond what can be found through Google, but it raises some serious questions about their safety protocols. While they seem like decent people, I'd need to know the circumstances leading to their expulsion -- and verify them through PADI to the extent possible -- before returning or recommending them to others.

We have been diving with Oasis for 12 years now and intend to continue to to so. It is the largest dive operator on the island and has a very good accommodating attitude. Oasis does not mix cruise ship tourists with other divers which is great. The dive guides are experienced but could perhaps pay more attention to showing guests interesting critters and sights.

Great kayaking in shallow calm warm waters with an excellent guide, but the eco walk is very short. Wonderful white sand beach.
