“Nice stay on the beach, avoid the Atrium”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

Let's start by saying this is a very small, remote island so that we can get our expectations set properly. There are NO 4 or 5 star resorts on Grand Turk. That said, this is a very nice small hotel on a very beautiful beach as long as you stay in one of the rooms on the beach and not in the courtyard atrium. We originally booked in the Atrium and quickly found out we had made a mistake (our bad). After a quick initial discussion, the lovely office staff and manager offered us a discount on a beach front room which we gladly took them up on. Thankfully they had a room available as it was a slow week. That offer and decision certainly changed our experience. Don't go for the cheap room!

From our wandering around, this is probably the nicest place to stay on the island. There is not a lot to do beyond diving and enjoying the beach, both of which are good. Restaurants are sparse, have limited menus and are relatively expensive so keep that in mind when you come. Oh yeah, cash is king on the island so come prepared. Some places don't accept credit cards or have a minimum (although the Osprey does so without a minimum). The restaurant food at the hotel was decent and service is very relaxed (slow by American standards) here as it is everywhere on island. Having kitchen facilities allowed us to hit the local grocery stores and stock up on breakfast, snacks, water and other beverages.

The highlight of the hotel is the beach and the views from the rooms and restaurant/bar. Amazing sunsets every night. On our last day, it was very calm and visibility in the water was great. We took off snorkeling from the beach and headed out towards the reef wall. On our snorkel we saw a nurse shark, a stingray, 3 ocean triggerfish, a large barracuda, a turtle and 2 eagle rays not to mention all of the usual parrot fish and other reef fish.

Room Tip: Stay on the beach. Do not stay in the courtyard atrium.

Osprey Beach resort is a great small resort on the water. The rooms are clean with an island feel. Great open air dining at the resort beside the pool facing the ocean. Oasis Divers is just a short walk away to dive. Divemasters Mackie and Archie are great to dive with. We have stayed there twice and enjoyed ourselves even more the second time around. You also cannot forget to visit with the local potcakes and maybe even adopt one through the SPCA.

If you would like to see some of our underwater pics go to www.divertrek.com You will see the potcake Danny that we adopted on our first trip.

Room Tip: The extra money for a room on the ocean is well worth it and a kitchenette can help cut down on brea...

This is a delightful place on a great beach. It takes less than a minute (really) to get from your room into the water. A great snorkeling reef is about a 10 minute swim from the hotel (cruise ships bring their snorkeling groups there-don't worry they don't monopolize the reef and don't stay long). The restaurant is great (no fried foods). The hotel is very nice -it isn't a big box place. It is quiet (except for the waves) and centrally located.

Room Tip: All the rooms overlook the water and are the same distance from the beach.

It's our first time to Grand Turk and we've decided to come back to this island again and again whenever we can. And "Osprey" will be our place to stay, always!
~ This is the most relaxing beach vacation! (we've been to many islands.)

Originally we hoped to book Bohio based on TripAdvisors reviews and pics. Osprey wasn't our first choice as we couldn't get much sense from its website about its beauty. After staying here for 4 days and visiting Bohio, we are so happy that we stay at Osprey!!!
~ "Wow! What a lovely boutique place on the beach and the amazing views!" was what we felt when arriving here. )The pictures online didn't showcase this wonderful hotel well.)

Hotel:
- Right on the beach (we felt we had the entire beach to ourselves the whole time. Never a crowd there!.. what a luxury!)
- the vibe is very chill, peaceful, and unpretentious! Truly a place you can be yourself and just relax! (In Bohio, it felt more like a resort style also with loud music playing in the bar... Not our island vacation style)
- well-maintained and rooms are spacious. The tropical plants truly make you feel on tropical island! lovely!
- Staff are really responsive and friendly.

Location:
- at the center of the small town! We enjoy strolling through Front Street where many historic houses are and stopping by restaurants and shops and interact with the friendly locals here. (Bohio is quite isolated and far away from the town.)

We stay at Room #46, which we will likely choose for our next stay. Everyday we enjoy the most amazing views of sunset and sunrise from this balcony. Or on its beach right downstairs.
PS. I don't see any privacy issue here even for the rooms downstairs, as this is a small hotel and you don't see crowds here.

The 3 minor suggestions:
1) Mosquitos: Bring your mosquito net for a good night sleep, just in case. (as it's tropical island, it's natural to experience mosquitos, esp after the rain.).
PS. We informed the hotel staff about the problem we had on our first night here. They immediately had the cleaning staff thoroughly spray and clean the room for us. And also provided us the coil. It helped much. (I think it would be great if the hotel has mosquito net for each room when it's needed.)
2) the WiFi isn't strong in the room but it's very good on the balcony as well as on the beach.
3) TV is quite small and can have an upgrade. (as there are very little to do after 9pm on the island, we do watch some TV.)

Overall, we truly love our stay in Osprey! (every morning I couldn't wait to wake up, put on my bikini, bring my coffee and book, and sit on the beach right downstairs.)

We feel sad that we are leaving tomorrow... but we are so thrilled and happy that we have such an beautiful, peaceful and relaxing vacation here on Grand Turk and Osprey!

We spent 11 days in paradise. The entire staff at the Osprey was wonderful, Georgina went above and beyond to make our stay the best ever. We will be going back. Love it. Cheers. Turks Head Amber quickly became our favorite.

My husband and I have been visiting Grand Turk one or twice yearly since we discovered the Turks and Caicos in 1997. Over the years we have stayed all over the island including The Osprey, Bohio, White Sands (formerly The Arawalk before the cruise port was built), SaltRaker, Crabtree, and several private homes. We have enjoyed all the places we have stayed, however, I just got back from 4 glorious days staying at the Osprey and I had forgotten how special it really is!

I can highly recommend the Osprey because of the location and the beautiful accommodations. The Osprey is especially great for a "mixed" couple. By that I mean if only one spouse dives and the other doesn't, the Osprey offers a great location in town for lots of varied activities and restaurant choices, or just relaxing on the very quiet beach enjoying the amazing blue water and glorious sunsets.

Everything I encountered at the Osprey was perfect during my recent stay. The rooms are well appointed, and very clean. Owners Jenny and Loren really do run a first class resort, and they took special care I my every need! I totally disagree with a previous reviewer that one should avoid the Osprey's restaurant. Having eaten several times at almost all the restaurants on the island over the years, I can attest that the food at the Osprey is some of the best on the island. Yes, the service may have been slow, but that may be encountered ANYWHERE on the island depending on the day you eat, and who waits on you. I actually love the slow, friendly service and the overall charm of the local people (mostly native 'Belongers' as they are called.)

We are avid divers and we usually dive 2-3 tanks per day, so it is most important for us to stay on the beach so that Smitty and his crew at Grand Turk Diving (our favorite Dive shop on the island) may pick us up by boat in front of our room since we never have a car on Grand Turk. We have dove literally all over the world including Fiji, Hawaii, Cozumel, Bonaire, Little Cayman, Costa Rica, Peru, Belize, to name a few. We rarely return to most destinations a second time because there is always somewhere new to explore and we have such little time in our busy lives. However, we keep returning over and over to Grand Turk over the past 17 years because of the great diving, slow pace and the wonderful people we meet there!

Just got back from 4 days here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff was very helpful when we needed advice or assistance, the accommodations were comfortable and you can't beat the location. We walked out of our back door and onto the beach and out the front door to 3 dives shops, a stroll up the historic Main Street and a great restaurant.
