“Great Beach, Nice Clean Rooms, Friendly Staff”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

I stayed here for a week while on business. I enjoyed being on the beach and within a 5 minute walk of the other bars and restos. The food is simple but good. My room was spacious and clean - maid service was first rate.

While this is probably only a 2-1/2 star hotel, it is a delightful place. I don't need, or even like super luxury, and so the Osprey was ideal. the room was very clean, and the bed comfortable. We had an ocean view from our second-floor balcony, and a refrigerator in the room. Things that weren't perfect -- not much storage space, no hot water. But with temps in the low to mid 90's, who needs hot water!

What was great -- the people. Gessie, Janey, Jenny, Ivy, Majeur and all the others were more than just professionally friendly. They made us feel welcome, and gave of the attention and advise we needed, with our ever seeming to be in the way.

If you don't feel the need to waste money on lux, like being able to walk to downtown, want to have breakfast overlooking the sea and want to be 60 seconds from the beach, you will love the Osprey. We'd go back in a New York minute!

Room Tip: Number 1, in the Annex, is a tremendous value.

My husband an I just got back from 12 days in the Turks & Caicos. We broke up the trip by spending a few days in Provo, a few in Grand Turk, and then a few back in Provo. While on Grand Turk, we stayed at the Osprey. It was so relaxing and low-key. It is literally right on the beach and the water is SO GORGEOUS! The room was spacious and clean with a lovely 4 poster bed. It also had a nice balcony overlooking the beach.

The restaurant here is really good, and on Sundays and Wednesdays they have live music and it's a pretty happening place. There is a dive shop right across the street that sets off from next door, so that is also pretty convenient.

The front desk staff were super helpful in arranging scooter rentals and taxis.

When I come back to Grand Turk, the Osprey will definitely be my first choice.

We were a party of 9 divers and one non-diver staying at the Osprey. If you are going for a luxury hotel, this is not the place to go, but if you are looking for a laid back and comfortable hotel the Osprey is great. Grand Turk does not have much to do other than dive and hang out at the beach. We were there to dive so it was great, but our one non-diver may have been a little bored. The dogs do have roam free and we had one favorite that visited us many times during our trip to include during dinner. They are all very well behaved and not intrusive at all. We had an issue with the air conditioner in our room and Janet, the hotel manager, had a new one installed for us that same day. The staff, particularly Janet and Ana Mae are fantastic. They are friendly and warm and make you feel like family. Janet arranged several cab trips for us and was instrumental in getting some left behind luggage. More about that later. Rooms are not luxurious, but they were spacious, relatively clean (you're in the islands folks) and we had clean towels every day. A couple rooms had issues with ants, but staff sprayed immediately and no more problems.Food and drink are expensive on the island so we were glad we had a kitchenette to keep drinks and lunch stuff on hand. Most of us also brought what alcohol we could from the States. Liquor store and small grocery store were both within walking distance. We had the BBQ two nights and it was very good. Food on other nights was quite good as well. We went to the Bohio one night for dinner and everything was delicious, but pricey.

We dove with Oasis divers and I have read on tripadvisor some very negative things about them. We couldn't have been more pleased. They were very safety conscious and provided great customer service. We are a group of experienced divers and once they determined our abilities, let us have as much bottom time as we could get - up to 80 minutes for some on the shallow dives. I think those folks complaining were from the cruise ships and the dive shop is limited on how much time they can give those divers.

A note about the luggage. The airplane from Provo to Grand Turk is a prop plane and there are weight restrictions on luggage. We all brought dive gear so we ended up not getting 3 of our bags until late the next day. We were glad we at least had packed carryon luggage and I would suggest soft sided. I had to prop my feet on my carryon, but at least I had my clothes.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor make getting to the beach and restaurant convenient. Nice view.

We found the Osprey to be a comfortable small beach hotel that was perfect for our recent dive trip to Grand Turk. Janet, the hotel manager, was very helpful and friendly – working with us to give our group five first floor rooms all together. She also helped get our luggage that had been delayed a day in Provo. (Be aware that Air Turks and Caicos requires that you check all bags that are too large to fit under the seat. You get one 50lb checked bag free and then pay $1 per lb on any additional checked bags – like the typical 22” rolling bag. Then, if a flight is over weight, they leave bags behind and put them on a later flight!)

The rooms were somewhat rustic (which we expected since it was a beach hotel) but they were clean and comfortable. Our room had a “mini-kitchen” with a small refrigerator (that comes with one gallon of drinking water), a microwave, toaster oven and coffeemaker along with plates, eating utensils, and glasses. There was often noise from people in the street along with dogs, donkeys, and roosters in nearby yards. The hum of the AC fan would mask the sounds while we were sleeping. Some of us thought the animals that roamed the streets, beaches, and sometimes the outdoor restaurant added to the charm of the hotel.

The Birdcage bar and restaurant on site was served tasty, although somewhat expensive, meals and drinks. This is true of every bar and restaurant on the island since all food is shipped onto the island. (Beer is $5 a bottle and $2 for a can of soda or bottle of water.) The restaurant manager Anna Mae took very good care of us. Be sure to try her specials and the key lime, apple, and pecan pies – very yummy! Our group made several trips to the local grocery and liquor stores for lunch food, snacks, and beverages. We also brought some snacks and liquor with us from home. There was a lovely concrete “veranda” between our rooms and the beach that became our gathering spot each evening before dinner. It has a perfect view of the ocean and the sunset.

Our group would definitely consider returning to the Ospey Beach Hotel in the future.

We stayed here in May, and this was not exactly what I expected. Window A/C, the door was not full solid door. The middle was a screen with a crank for the blinds, which did not allow for privacy within or out of the room. Although I am an animal lover, barking dogs, chickens, and donkeys could be heard at all times of the day and night. Also staying beside the hotel office wasn't great either, since our patio could be seen directly from the restaurant. They give you a gallon of water but when you run out, they don't tell you they will charge $4 to get you another. I would not stay here again.
