“Great, peaceful snorkeling -”
Review of Smith's Reef

Smith's Reef

This reef area is excellent! It is not hard to get to at all - the Green Bean Cafe on Bridge Street is right on the way - - just drive past it and continue down the road to where it looks like a private road. Park and walk a bit down the rocky beach and you will be rewarded. Not many people go there, it seems, and you can snorkel in peace. We saw a barracuda, spotted eagle ray and everything else you'd expect. There are a few residences/villas but no services so bring your own water/snacks, etc.

Even though the beach was rocky here, this was my favorite beach and reef. We went to Coral Gardens aka Bight Reef twice, and that was good for starters, but Smith's Reef was a whole different story. Given my slightly irrational fear of the ocean, sea creatures, etc., this was a bit more advanced snorkeling experience for me. Smith's Reef is huge and a lot more wild/natural/awesome than Coral Gardens. We tons of beautiful fish, coral and spent a lot of time exploring. We heard news of a reef shark and eagle rays, but we never actually them ourselves. Smith's Reef was one of the highlights of our trip!

We loved Smith's Reef. Headed there around 4:30. Only 3 other people there at the time. Quiet, peaceful and beautiful. The coral is stunning and the fish were plentiful. It was easy to find and easy to access. We enjoyed this more than Coral Gardens. The beach is less sandy and more flat rock, so be sure to bring shoes. We loved it and the kids want to go back today.

It's rocky here, but once you get in the water you will see that it is worth it. Swim to the Green Buoy - there is a big reef out there. It looks far - just take your time. The smaller reef is closer to shore. So many yellow fin tuna there. Bring stale bread to feed the fish. They will be all over you. I actually purchased salt water fish food pellets back home and I was their best friend!

We just return last week from our trip to Provo and this was one of the highlights for us. Me and my family love to snorkel and thought this reef was better than what we have seen in the Cayman Islands or anywhere in the Yucatan area. We actually we back another day to see more of it and both days were great. (the second trip we took snacks to feed the fish, we made it a little more active, although the day without was great too).
