If you want to escape from the touristiy area but still want all the comfort you get from a nice hotel, this would be a pearl for you.
We recommend to rent a car and when you are at Gloucester Place it is close to several nice beaches and to the rainforest.
Our room was very comfortable and we got a very good breakfast. The sea view from the house is wonderful and there is a pool where you can cool down. This place is so relaxing.
The guesthouse is run by a very friendly American couple.
Now when we are home we just want to go back!

My fiance and I feel so lucky to have found the the Gloucester Place as well as Bea and Win. The location and property is gorgeous. The rooms are clean. The hosts felt like family from day one. We can't wait to return and bring our families!!! Thank you to Bea and Win (and Wonderdog) for an awesome stay.

PS- If you do stay here, make sure you arrange to have the local woman in Parlatuvier (I forget her name right now) cook for you. She has a one table establishment RIGHT on the bay. The food was the best we had on the island. She was friendly and we chatted for an hour after we ate. A real way to feel the local vibes of Tobago. Highly recommend!!!!

My wife and I were looking for a quick long-weekend getaway from Fort Lauderdale and opted for a trip to Trinidad and Tobago. I had done extensive research on hotels and resorts to stay in Tobago and really didn’t read anything that made me feel really good about any particular place until I came across reviews for Gloucester Place. We travel a fair amount and have stayed mostly at hotels and have only stayed at B&B’s about half a dozen times. We decided to give Gloucester place a try and we were definitely pleased to have made that choice. Bea and Win are wonderful hosts. We were made to feel very comfortable upon arrival, Bea offered us cold fresh made lemonade and bananas from their trees, showed us our room and later Win gave us a lay of the land, the path to the beach and to the river and mini falls down the hill alongside the house.
The location: It is located on the north end of the island, somewhat remote and away from the “urban” area. It is a great place to retreat to for quiet relaxation – expect no night life – you would need a car to drive to the nearest “town” Castara (more like a village settlement) for dinner. There are only a handful of eating places in Castara. The menu for the day depends on what fresh ingredients are available and frequently on what the cook/chef feels like cooking. Gloucester house above the Parlatuvier fishing village and a 10 minute walk down 200+ steps leads you to the beach and village. Unlike comments from a prior reviewer, we did not hear any road noise or traffic at all. If you like to run, there is a tough uphill run from the beach at Parlatuvier up the hill and also a path leading to bloody bay (that path can be muddy if there is rain.
The room: Our room has a balcony looking down to the ocean and the distant waves breaking over the rocks. The night sky was amazing. The bed was comfortable and the air-conditioning kept us comfortable. The only quirkiness was the bathroom which does not have a door although it was set around a corner. Also, as we were the first guests for the season, the water from the hot water heater, having sat unused for a few months, emitted a sulphur dioxide smell. It started dissipating after a while
The house: The house has a great verandah overlooking the ocean – breezy – with chirping birds, A great place to relax, read or basically do nothing.
The atmosphere: We were fortunate to meet another nice couple staying at Gloucester place at the same time. The nice part about staying at a B&B is the social interaction with the hosts and other guests. We enjoyed the company and conversations. Bea also offered to cook dinner for us one night and we enjoyed a meal of chicken curry. She was wonderful in also cooking a chicken dish to cater to my wife’s dietary needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gloucester Place and would recommend a stay tjhere without hesitation.

This is a great B & B.
The breakfasts were fantastic and the dinners were great if you want.
The hosts were very accomidating and the local people friendly.
If you are tired of hotels this is a wonderful place to stay.
Highly Recomended!

Room Tip: I do not remember the room name but it had a balcony. It was great sitting out there

The island of Tobago is a most wonderful getaway with Parlatuvier Bay being one of our favorite bays on the island. The vacation gods must have overseen our choice of accommodations as we fell into the perfect location with a breathtaking view and amazingly hospitable hosts. Bea & Winn not only offered a home cooked dinner on our first night of arrival, but provided excellent hiking, snorkeling and sightseeing suggestions. They lent us snorkel gear, helped us exchange money and Bea personally escorted us to a local trail head, where their Wonderdog led us on a trek up waterfalls and through dense foliage. The modestly priced cottage at Gloucester Place offered a peaceful and breathtaking view of palms, banana trees, vivid flowering plants and the sea in the distance. Winn brought us fresh fruits in the morning from their property. We loved the open air kitchen and bedroom that provided just enough privacy. Downstairs was another more private bedroom for our friends, but most of our time “at home” was spent on the deck relaxing, reading and enjoying happy hour. The cottage stay is not for those who expect air conditioning , but then I would recommend staying at the main house. The dipping pool, available to all guests, was quite refreshing! The only pitfall with the open air cottage was the loud bus that rolled past around 7:30 am, but the birds were already singing for us at that hour. The Gloucester Place was perfect for our party of 4 who were more interested in exploring the beauty of the island and meeting the locals than frequenting the busy tourist spots near the airport. There were plenty of beautiful beaches nearby with excellent snorkeling and tasty local food. You could hike from Gloucester Place down steep stone steps to Parlatuvier Bay where we bought fresh fish when the fishing boats docked and enjoyed “liming” with the locals to calypso music. Castara offered fun beach dining with steel drums, limbo and a drum circle. We bought souveniers from our hosts, who display their gardener’s handiwork at the main guest house. Bea and Winn are active in the community tutoring the children; so at the mention of their names, the locals took care of us Our hosts were like having a personal friend/travel agent/tour guide all wrapped up in one. We so enjoyed their company, but they were careful to maintain their guests’ privacy. We highly recommend The Gloucester Place and cottage because it is a most lovely place to vacation, but it is so because Bea and Winn have the special gift of welcoming, caring for and enjoying their guests. Relax and take in Tobago!!

My wife, 21 month old daughter and I stayed in Essex Cottage for two weeks during our honeymoon in April and in a nutshell, we had the best possible time!

Essex Cottage is fantastic; it’s located in Parlatuvier which is a beautiful fishing village on the north-east part of the island. We travelled around the island for two weeks and this is the real Tobago! If you want resorts and busy beaches then you’re better off staying near the airport but if you want a bit of quiet, local walks in the rain forest, friendly locals, wildlife, amazing quiet beaches then this is simply the place to be. It’s also located not far from Castara if you want a bit more life but nothing too touristy.

Essex Cottage is great, well kitted out and furnished, clean, incredible views and Bea and Win are great hosts. They are very knowledge about the area and helped us organise car hire and various excursions. We had a meal cooked by Bea on a couple of occasions and the food was wonderful. We also used their grill to cook chicken and fish (purchased very cheaply from the local fisherman). We used the pool a lot which is great and has the best views. The landscaped gardens are amazing and very well looked after.

The negative reviews on here are total nonsense. This is an incredible place; I hope we can come back. Thanks so much Bea and Win for making our stay so enjoyable.

Friendly hosts, lovely atmosphere and lots to do.
We throughly enjoyed our stay at gloucester place, though being tucked away in a quiet part of the island there was plenty to explore, experience and see for the intrepid traveller. Win and Bea were excellent hosts, nothing was too much trouble and wonder dog acted as a perfect hiking guide.
Tobago is a beautiful island and this is a fabulous base to explore it from
