Castara - what can I say - loved the "being away from it all" feeling in castara, and the friends we've made. Love the beach, the people, Sharon, Rachel, Porridge & Jeanelle, Chino etc etc - a very "get away from it all feel"

Castara is just the sort of place you imagine when you think about the Caribbean. Soft sand, shady palms, backed by simple little cafes and bars. And a distinct lack of crowds !
But Castara is also a working fishing village and you can watch the fisherman hauling in the nets, and if you are self-catering, as we were, you can buy really fresh fish for next to nothing. But that also mean that it's not over-prettified, and apart from one or two little places to buy small souvenirs, it's not a shopping destination. But the village is friendly and unspoiltx, the water is blue, and the sunsets are stunning. Just the place to really unwind and shake off the stresses of the 21st century.
We stayed at Carpe Diem, which is fantastic, with gorgeous views

We have recently returned from two fabulous weeks self catering in Little Bay. Only two minor reservations, the first being the local dogs which although domesticated and, I think owned, have taken to holding barking matches any time they feel like it during the night, usually led by one that appears to live at the top of the hill near the main road. This could become a serious disincentive to staying in an otherwise almost idyllic place. Over excited cockerels are acceptable, barking dogs are not. The second is that the development of more accommodation is in serious danger of outgrowing the capacity of the drainage system!

On the positive side Errol Roach - Roachee is a really great professional guide and highly recommended, he goes well beyond the call of duty providing friendly advice and even local produce without expecting reward. We went to the Rain Forrest with him and he proved incredibly observant and knowledgeable. He also owns one of the bigger boats for fishing/snorkelling trips.

Beach is nice and clean, fairly shallow...lots of places to buy food and drink. You can watch the fishermen bringing in their catch of the day as well.

Having heard a lot about this beach we were very disappointed. There was no where to park and the beach like so many others shelved steeply and was not good for young children. A pretty village though and would be ok for adults.
