we spent our 15 anniversary on arrival the manager was warm and welcoming our room was lovely old caribbean style. the surroundings were like something out of a picture book close to the Grand Rivier river and the beach front. See the amazing Leatherbacks was awesome! dinner was superb and so was breakfast. the staff was warm and friendly and very professional. I will return every year at Le Grande Almandier. Felt like a slice of heaven!!

3.5 hours drive from Port of Spain to the North East Coast is in itself a nice experience. We had booked one night at this hotel to see if we had the luck to see the Leatherbag Turtle and its laying eggs. That was a great night and the moon was new. And the hotel really provided a nice dinner - according to others more experienced - the best in the village and good rooms with a deck into the Beach. The staff were so polite and nice.and it was difficult to drag ourselves off again. But - if I could I would return again one day. It is a star.

Recently visited intended to stay 2 days but stayed only 1, as they was a power outage during the night. We stayed on the ground floor which was less than 5 feet from the fence. Did not see security on the premises. As a result we did not feel safe opening our windows. (In addition the insects/mosquitoes that would have eaten us alive.) So we stayed in a black sweat box till morning. This was our 2nd stay at this resort and on both occasions electricity went. No candles were provided. Breakfast was a simple affair and after waiting over 40 minutes, I ended up unpacking from our bags a juice box and cookies for my toddler to eat. Dinner the night before was also disappointing, Appetizer: crab cake was not fresh, the tamarind sauce was old. Main Course: lamb was a bit salty. Thank God for dessert: cheese cake.
Their generator was not working and I could not even consider having my toddler go another night without A/C or the safety of opening the window. Still they charged us a full day and a half even though we stayed less than 24 hours. It pays to double check your bill as they almost charged us at a higher rate. Would consider staying there again, only if I feel up to “roughing it”.

The hotel is on the beach with a wonderful staff. Spent one night to go turtle watching. The Visitor's centre is very close to the hotel. Turtles were mere metres in front the hotel. Saw at least 10 turtles. Breakfast was filling and you MUST try the homemade coconut bread!! Room was adequate and very comfortable. I am fussy when it comes to toilet and sheets and was totally please. The room is clean and the sheets were sparkling white and felt so so clean. If you are loking for 5 star hotel with the frills.. this hotel isn't for you. It is rustic and beach house environment with necessary comforts. Only con for me is there should be tea / coffee in the room and a microwave as there were no kitchenette area. After a long walk on the beach looking for turtles.. something warm would have been welcoming. IF you are going for turtle watching, walk with a torchlight and wear white.. reflects better at night.

Room Tip: Room 8 is on a corner, second floor ocean view with a small patio.

It's like getting a dream vacation away from everything without ever setting foot on an airplane. Initially, the stay was supposed to be for one night, just to enjoy the turtle nesting and return home. However, that changed when we got there. The view from the room was amazing and the room in itself comfortable and cozy. If you never intended on over eating, that quickly changed as the food was comparable to any 4 or 5 star hotel....delicious and making you anticipate your next meal. The phones stayed on vibrate from Friday - Sunday, and we never missed the television or radio. Cherry was a gem, her warm personality encouraging you to stay. She even recommended some bar-be-que just out the road on Saturday at lunch time (which was to die for). At the end of the weekend, I couldnt say I was happy that work was the following day. We're heading back there soon...
