I've done the tour twice, and enjoyed it both times. We didn't see many birds, but learned lots of interesting facts about the local flora and fauna. And you can't beat relaxing on the verandah before and after, enjoying the hummingbirds and agoutis. Lunch is not worth the price, however.

We stayed at Asa Wright for 3 nights as part of a birdwatching trip. Having just had a fairly miserable stay at Pax Guesthouse, Asa Wright came as a blessed relief. The rooms are arranged around the lovely spacious grounds. They are quiet and comfortable with good storage. You will need a torch (and possibly an umbrella) to get back and forth to the main building and look out for agouti and tiger lizards on your way.
The food is good and the evening rum punches on the verandah puts everyone in a good mood.
The centre owns a lot of land and there are many well-mapped paths of differing standards of difficulty to keep you occupied. The guides are very knowledgable and there is always someone available on the verandah to help you identify the birds.
The verandah really is quite something; the array of buzzing hummingbirds and honeycreepers can make you dizzy and it is possible to spot more distant species in the canopy using the scope. Although most of the birds are gloriously gaudy it is worth a trip to the “cave” to see the weird oilbirds.
To sum up, if you can’t get a good photo of a hummingbird here, you never will!

Not the easiest place to find, could do with more signposts from Arima, but after arriving we paid and went on a guided tour of the rainforest. Our guide was very knowledgeable and the tour around this former plantation was 90 minutes well spent. We had pre-booked lunch which was a meal in the dining room consisting of a buffet of rice, lentils, mixed vegetables, chicken and salad followed by cherry cake and custard. All very good and in pleasant surroundings. We then had a walk around the grounds. The feeders attract humming birds to the verandah and my wife and I managed to get some great photos. A great place to visit but is made perfect by the helpful attitude of the staff. Asa Wright is the pride of Trinidad and we'll definitely be visiting again.

This was the best rain forest tour I have ever had. Unfortunately, we did not see many birds in the rain forest, but we did spot the Bell bird. We also heard it loud and clear. We saw many hummingbirds from the veranda, as well as the beautiful purple honeycreeper. We took the 10:30 tour. There is another tour at 1:30. The cost was $60TT per adult ($10 US). There is a small gift shop, but disappointed at the selection of post cards. A buffet lunch is available, but we did not go for that. Binoculars are advised, but not being an avid bird watcher, we did not find the need for them. Those on our tour who had them did not use them. Good walking shoes are good to have. Mosquitoes did not bother us, but we did apply lotion prior to our tour. Drinking water is cold and available on the veranda. People can get rooms here for 1 or more nights. It is far away from everything! The ride to the center was curvy, but beautiful.
