“Highlight of Our Trip to Trinidad”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

We spent half a day at the Asa Wright Nature Centre on our recent trip to Trinidad and Tobago. It was a beautiful oasis and we enjoyed the guided birding tour. Even though we aren't birders, our guide's enthusiasm was contagious. We had a nice lunch on the verandah watching the hummingbirds flit 3 feet from us and then we explored some nature trails on our own.

A definite must-do.

“a day in Birdland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2013

this place in the middle of the forest is so refreshing away from traffic jams and noise; and so many birds to be admired right from the verandah; it is worth it to spend the day there, have lunch where you'll meet other fellow birders. Phone in advance to check when there's a visit to the oil bird cave.

“Nature at its best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

Note kids not allowed.

Nestled in the hills of Northern Trinidad with beautiful views

Natural pool near a spring to have a bath - water is extremely cold as you are high in the mountains.

Lots of flora and fauna to be seen.

Birds especially in abundance feeding and flying all around you - its a photographer's (and nature lover's) paradise

I wish my kids could have experienced it though.

The natural beaurty of ASA Wright is a must see for nature lovers. They have a world renowned range of bird species and the guided walk is great. The food options are limited but typical trinidadian food so if you like trinidadian food you will be ok. Choices are limited and food is buffet style. I would recommend they develop their little coffee/bar on the verandah a little better with choices of sandwiches teas etc as this would be a welcome treat.

“Great way to see wildlife close up”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

Must see for the nature lover. Watching the spectacular range of hummingbirds feeding up close was fantastic, as was getting a good look at agouti and tegu lizards. The guided walk is free (but to be on the safe side you should book it in advance) and really interesting covering the history of the centre, the native plants and the wildlife, particularly the birds, for example manakins. I went there with a group of other Zoology students and we spent a good few hours in the bar area watching the wildlife and having lunch. For travellers on a budget you can just visit for the day (60TT or $10) and stay up the road at a place called Alta Vista which is basic accommodation but fantastic.
You can't visit the northern range and miss it, though you'd probably want to rent a car.
