“Luxury with a price!!”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

Went here on our honeymoon for a week. We stayed in the royal palm room which has its own small pool, however being that it is covered it was too cold to actually use. However the room was fantastic, lots of privacy. We are both vegetarians and the chef was able to cook us delicious meals even if it wasn't specifically on the menu. The staff was fantastic. Had a driver that would take us where ever we wanted on the island. One thing that did catch us by surprise though at the end of our visit was that you pay for every drink whether it's alcoholic or non alcoholic....and yes, that includes water! I would def recommend staying here as the service was great and the views from the restaurant were breathtaking.

Thank you for your lovely review, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and that we were able to accommodate your vegetarian requirements, we were more than happy to do this!
Sorry if there was a misunderstanding about paying for your drinks, it is stated in the room rates on both the web site and in e mails and prices are shown on the menus. Our drinks prices are actually also less than else where on the island. Sorry if you misunderstood this though as I am sure it was a bit of a surprise if you didn't realise!
I do understand your comments about the island being 'pricy'. Mustique is undeniably an expensive place to live or holiday but when you consider that everything has to be brought in by plane or boat and that there are just over a hundred houses on the island to share all the costs, it becomes a little more understandable. Exclusivity has a price!
Just to explain why we charge for bottled water, again this has to be purchased from the supplier, brought in by boat and then the empty bottles disposed of again. Clearly this has a cost. We don't charge for tap water and we do try to encourage guests to drink this in preference as it is purified and delicious but we offer the option of bottled water for those who may want it.
There is no natural water on Mustique, all our water is caught in rain water tanks or desalinised from sea water and then purified. Desalinated water is expensive to produce and water in general is a respected commodity on the island, but we don't charge you for this!
We do hope you come back and visit Firefly again, perhaps for your anniversary!
Thank you again for your review.
Best Wishes

Stan and Liz and the staff take exceptional care of all of guests and it's like heaven on earth! The bar is lively and fun and the rooms are spectacular. Be sure to get the mule for your stay, as the inn in located on a hill and walking up and down can be a pain.

Room Tip: All rooms are wonderful, but the Royal Palm, if available is incredible. Perfect for honeymooners o...

When traveling to a place like Mustique, you expect things to be very nice...and Firefly does not disappoint. We stayed for a few nights in a beautiful room with a large patio, hammock, and spectacular views overlooking the bay. While obviously an older hotel/home, the rooms have been updated to be as beautiful as anywhere you'll go. The service is off the charts. Seems there's no request the staff wont happily accommodate to make sure you're comfortable. It's different than some other "5 Star" places you might go, however, in that everybody seems genuinely happy to be there and to help make your stay memorable.

Food is an important part of traveling for me and Firefly did not disappoint in this category. We took most all of our meals at the hotel and all were spectacular. Dinner each night was in the uber-romantic dining room and the food was very good, far better than one would expect (and usually receives in my experience) on a remote island. Breakfast brought to the deck each morning was lovely as well. Lunch was either poolside or delivered to the beach for a spectacular picnic by one of the helpful staff, who would then return to pick everything up. Each evening we would clean up after a taxing day of pool/beach/etc and head to the bar for sunset cocktails. I've had a lot of drinks in a lot of places and seen the sunset all over the world....but this is about as good as it gets. We met lovely and interesting people from all over the world who couldn't have been friendlier, some even inviting us to their villas for cocktails. It's a great bar and seemingly a very popular gathering spot for villa owners and renters from around the island. Not to be missed. Also not to be missed is the weekly cocktail party at the Plantation House. A bit of a dressy occasion, all the folks on the island gather for cocktails in the lovely great room of the other hotel on the island. Great people watching, free champagne, and wonderful company...not a bad combo.

One thing we were disappointed in was the transportation around the island. We were told that the way to get around the island is via Mule, but when we arrived were informed that all Mules on the island were already rented out. The staff was happy to give us rides wherever we wanted to go, but I like to explore a bit. Not a big complaint, if going back would just make sure to reserve in advance.

Overall a wonderful trip and we will certainly return. Mustique is a special place that manages to pull off elegance and class but in a casual beach setting. If going with a larger group would find a villa to rent, but until then we'll be staying at the Firefly and working our way down the martini list.

Normally, when visiting Mustique, we rent a villa, but given this trip to the island was only four days before flying on to St. Lucia, we decided to stay at Firefly, one of two hotels.
We weren't disappointed!
The owners, Stan and Elizabeth Clayton, couldn't have been more accommodating and the rooms were idyllic.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Firefly highly to friends, both for accommodation and socializing with local residents. Prince William and Kate are regulars at the restaurant.
One particular joy is the waterfall rock swimming pool overlooking Britannia Bay.
We'll be back!

Room Tip: All the rooms are charming. Mine was call Seashell...

We decided to head over to Mustique to test out the luxury factor. The island is a bit of a private enclave for the well to do and Firefly was a nice way to experience it. It truly was a little piece of luxury on an island of luxury. It is also one of the few bars/restaurants on the island and a great place to meet people.

Firefly has only a handful of rooms and they have all be renovated to 5 star. The accommodations were amazing. We also enjoyed the infinity pool during the hot days.

We enjoyed the privacy but also the ability to get out to the village or the beach.

The rates included all meals. Hats off to the chef who delivered many memorable meals for us.

The staff were amazing. The handled every little need. They were incredibly friendly and even though they were looking after us there was also time for a smile, a joke and a story or two.

I think Firefly was one of the best boutique hotels I have ever stayed at. I don;t usually return to a place..but I will to Firefly!

Room Tip: All the rooms are amazing. There is even an outdoor shower!

Our stay here was incredible and worth every penny. We loved everything about this place and didn't want to leave. I just read the 3 negative reviews (in English and French) and I'm appalled by how inaccurate and disrespectful they were - most likely written by incredibly whiny and pretentious a-holes who have no appreciation for the beautiful things in life. It's amazing how people will try to ruin a very good thing with these online review systems.

Firefly is heavenly from the moment you arrive. My husband surprised me by taking us here for our honeymoon in May 2013. The pictures do not give this place justice. We simply adored the room, the views (which includes a bay with beautiful sailboats), attentive staff, delicious food, and laid back atmosphere where you can leave all the worries of city life behind. The service was exceptional and everyone was very friendly.

Although this is a small bed-and-breakfast type hotel, we had so much privacy and the freedom to mingle as much or as little as we wanted to with the other guests/staff. There was no pressure. I cannot wait to return to Firefly and celebrate our anniversary!!

What a lovely little spot Firefly is, we visited the restaurant and had a wonderful evening. This boutique hotel has only 5/6 rooms and is very attractive and stylish. The restaurant is extremely pretty, intimate and romantic with good views and open to the breeze. Service was charming and the food pretty good on the whole, probably the best meal that we had whilst in Mustique.
