“Best Mahi Mahi in the Windwards with a Twist”
Reviewed June 3, 2014

WindNWaters is going upscale, and has a budget to treat for a birthday!!!!. The Sugar Reef in Bequia is located on the windward side of the island, away from any hustle and bustle of the main port of Admiralty Bay. Well worth the 10 minute drive from anywhere on the island. We had the catch of the day, Mahi Mahi on a bed of creme de sweet potato a la caraibes! with green beans. Covered with grated fresh coconut, and cooked in coconut milk. Positively delicious, and we will go back for seconds. Starters included pumpkin soup, and tuna [yellow fin] tartare done to perfection, extremely fresh. With wine, and two courses, and impeccable service, at 110$ with tax included CAD well worth it for someone's special birthday celebration.

The setting facing the Atlantic ocean, was superb, with a constant breeze, and a beautifully decorated dining area. You must check out the website for this. http://www.sugarreefbequia.com

“Exquisite!”

Food Review In 5th Paragraph

My wife and I were recently married at Sugar Reef. We also stayed there in one of their beach front rooms for several days beforehand and for several days after before going over to Mustique for the rest of our honeymoon. We chose Bequia for our wedding because we were looking for an off-the-beaten-path, authentic Caribbean experience where we could enjoy the simple, natural beauty of the Caribbean. We chose Sugar Reef in particular because of its lovely beachfront setting and its simple and elegant ambiance. Being from NY we are familiar with the high-end restaurant/hotel scene and are not easily impressed with ritz and glitz nor were we looking for that kind of atmosphere for our wedding and honeymoon.

Words cannot express how wonderful our experience at Sugar Reef was. We were welcomed with so much genuine warmth that we both felt we were treated more like friends than guests. We have traveled extensively in the Caribbean and have never encountered the same kind of charming hospitality that we found at Sugar Reef. Anything that we needed (including glue for sandals that fell apart) was provided quickly, graciously and with a smile. The service we experienced there was definitely 5 star.

The resort itself is beautiful with stone walls, vaulted ceilings, tastefully appointed decor, a beautiful wooden bar and dining tables adjacent to open french doors that look out onto a golden sandy beach with sweeping views of a quintessentially tranquil Caribbean bay. The beach is certainly one of the nicest on the island and the snorkeling is quite good on the local reef. We really enjoyed taking the resort Kayak on local trips around Industry Bay and Spring Bay.

We had our wedding ceremony outside on the grassy area just adjacent to the dining area, overlooking the beach and the bay beyond. It was exactly the setting we were looking for -- quiet, intimate and breathtakingly beautiful. We then had our reception in the restaurant. The service was impeccable. All of our guests noticed and were blown away. Everyone stated that they had never experienced the kind of genuine and charming hospitality that the Sugar Reef staff showed us. It was truly an amazing.

We must mention the food. The food at Sugar Reef Cafe was EXQUISITE! The menu is interesting and creative with a lovely variety of choices. The flavors are delicately balanced and the dishes are all beautiful presented. The chef was also friendly and personable. We liked the food so much that we tried every dish on the menu and found it very difficult to eat anywhere else despite that fact that we had a rental car and drove all over the island. We also LOVED the french press coffee and delicious breakfasts of fruit, homemade yogurt and fresh baked breads (banana, coconut) with homemade jellies (papaya, banana).

In summary, the resort is in a magnificent setting and the resort itself is stunning. The service was amazing and the food was exquisite. But beyond all of these things what made Sugar Reef so special was the genuine warmth and charm of the staff. When we left we felt like we were saying goodbye to new friends. We can't wait to return to see them again!

“Delicious, relaxing and amazing”
Reviewed May 9, 2014 via mobile

We came back to this restaurant/hotel a year later and the food has most definitely improved. Every single meal lovingly prepared by Chef John was outstanding - he even went out of his way to cook a special meal for us by going across to the mainland St Vincent to pick up the ingredients (steak and homemade pasta). The additions to the menu were delicious. We tried the lobster roti, the blackened king fish, the Mahi Mahi, the fish tartare, callalou soup, the burger and fruit crumble with nutmeg ice cream to list a few. The rum punch is fantastic and a definite must to try is the Fruit Splash. The friendly and first class service by Emert, Judith and all the other staff were very much appreciated and a real credit to Bequia. And of course Biscuit, the friendly, dog that always greeted us. We will definitely come again!!!

“Fabulous”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

Loved the view, the ambiance, the hotel, the service, the food. Lovely hotel on the other side of the island from Lower Bay and well worth the visit. Very close to the Turtle Sanctuary and the perfect setting for a romantic ocean-side lunch in beautiful surroundings with wonderful wait staff. Not to be missed.
