This is the best commercial schooner trip I have taken. I did the trip to Tobago Cays. Ship has plenty of room to lounge and enjoy the sail to the Cays. Benches and seats have comfy cushions. From the minute you get on board till the end of the day food and drink is plentiful and 1 st class. We had hours of snorkeling in Tobago Cays, both out at the reefs and off the shore with the turtles.
Captain Lewis built the ship with his brother in 1967, and before the ferry's Friendship Rose was the transportation to Bequia, making runs back and forth to St Vincent. So, besides a perfect sailing and snorkel trip you get a chance to experience Bequia history. This will now be a yearly trip while I am in Bequia. I am also looking forward to doing the trip to Mustique.

It's all been said. However, we took the trip to Mustique a few years ago and loved it. Today we went to Tobago Keys and it topped it. Wonderful attention, lovely sail through great scenery, great breakfast with good coffee as we sailed, snacks and drinks en route, lovely and attentive crew, Snorkelled and saw 4 turtles plus a lovely reef. Great lunch drinks, snacks scenery on the way back. Not a booze cruise, although there is beer and punch if you choose, just a fabulous day out. Don't worry about sea sickness, they have pills and , even if its a bit choppy, the ship is pretty stable.

It's the best, do it!

Lovely old boat, old island ferry built in Friendship bay, by the 83 year old captain. Went to Mustique, but except for a drink in an empty Basils bar (what did you expect), was pleased to think that I had been to Mustique.
Both trips are all day; the Cays are from 7 am till 6 / 7 pm. All food and drink in price; snorkelling. very broad in the beam, did not seem to bad in quite large (holiday sailing) swells.

The weather had been quite chaotic prior to our trip, and we had heard of a rough trip to the Tobago Cays. The Friendship Rose can't control the weather, and had cancelled a few trips for safety reasons, but we lucked out with a stellar day sailing to Mustique. We had a small group that got along well, and by the time we rounded Moonhole we knew we were in for a great day. Moonhole itself is something to see, very eerie and mind boggling. We actually saw some people still occupying the last few homes...incredible. We were able to get under full sail on the way to Mustique, enjoying the champagne and lovely breakfast. Because there was only 9 of us doing the tour around the island, we were able to share a "taxi" at a cost of $10 US per person. We had a little drive around, seeing some of the local life and the manicured mansions, then we were dropped off at Macaroni beach for an hour or so of swimming. Back to Basil's Bar for a beer (at your own cost), a fantastic lunch on the boat, amazing snorkelling at the reef, then a lovely sail back to Bequia. From start to finish the crew made us feel pampered and safe. There are some really interesting stories to be heard from them, so take the time to ask questions. I will say that you're taking a chance with the weather, but we didn't pay until the morning we were leaving, so we could have cancelled if things looked ominous. Also, the sail to Mustique is much shorter than the Tobago Cays, and our day was quite full enough for us. Bring lots of sunscreen, especially for your lips, some snacks for the beach and ask for water bottles before you leave for the island tour. If the ocean is agreeable, you'll have a fantastic day.
