The Cobblestone Inn

Cobblestone is close to the dock, so be prepared for local rather than a tourist ambiance in the area. The building itself is made of beautiful, old stonework and is very quaint inside. However, it is also quite musty - our room on the ground level needed a good airing out and we were still smelling the damp during the first night. Basically, the inn has everything you need but is modest.

I stayed at The Cobblestone Inn when I came to St. Vincent to work with the Ministry of Education. The room I had was spacious, and the internet was reliable. The hotel is located downtown, centrally located just a few blocks from the Ministry of Education, the ferry to Bequia and other government offices. For anyone working with the St. Vincent government the location is ideal. The food in the restaurant is good, although not outstanding. The service is cheerful and helpful.

Since the hotel is located in an historic cobblestone sugar mill, the stone walls are problematic for people with allergies, however.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with coffee and tea provided.

Stayed here for two nights before getting the ferry to Bequia. Was very impressed with the room. TV, air con and great shower. Upstairs was a roof terrace where we had a full breakfast for $30EC and nice views of the harbour. There is also a bar up there but this closes at 3pm ( not sure why). To get acces to the hotel there are 20-25 steep steps to climb which may be a problem for the less able traveller. At street level beneath the hotel is Basil's bar and restaurant. A nice place with good, but not too pricey, food. We found restaurants in short supply in Kingstown but we did have a good dinner at VeeJay's further along the road. The bill for the room only was £55/night and is ideal if, like us you want to see a bit of St Vincent before heading off across the road to the ferry. To get to the hotel from the airport just get a "dollar van" and head towards to city or a taxi will cost $30EC.

The Cobblestone Inn is right in the heart of Kingstown and just a few blocks from the Ferry terminal. The island of St. Vincent really doesn't have very good beaches so if you want good beaches, take a ferry to one of the Grenadines (the closest one, Bequia is 1 hour away by ferry).

The hotel itself is an old colonial building with lots of character and right in the heart of the city. The city is quite compact but not someplace I'd want to spend more than a day. The rooms were decently sized and there was free wifi. The beds were also quite comfortable. There was a roof top restaurant for breakfast and a branch Basil's Bar (famous from Mustique) in the entry way. Both had good food. You are also just a block from a Taxi stand if you want to get a ride to another part of the island.

I'd say it was a great place if you needed to be in Kingstown or were only staying a day before heading out on a ferry for islands further afield! I wouldn't spend much more time in Kingstown if you don't need to. If you are doing business in town, this would be an ideal place.

With the best location to the ferry dock, coupled with inexpensive, air conditioned rooms and hot showers the Cobblestone hits the mark. While it wouldn't be my choice for a week-long vacation in the island for those in coming or going from St. Vincent this is a no-brainer. Overall its a great value for the money and makes life easy. The staff is friendly and accommodating (especially important given the scheduling of LIAT).

I have always enjoyed my meals of the rooftop restaurant and the staff there remembers my tea with cream and omelet choice, despite my visits being months apart.

We had a very small room, which was very basic with no working bathroom door. If you want to stay downtown the location is great and we did enjoy the Friday night jump up as well as being able to go down to the market and the ferry by foot. However one night is enough from our point of view. Restaurant was OK, but highly priced.
