Reviewed August 4, 2012

We went for lunch while on an island tour. The grounds were incredibly beautiful. The food was served outdoors and was very good with excellent service. I would definitely recommend this to anyone on Nevis. We did not stay here but I am certain that it must be great based upon what we experienced

We went to Golden Rock and I must say it is very special and will take your breath away. We went 7 years ago and only had lunch. They now have a new owner and have made significant changes to the property and the restaurant is now in my opinion not to be missed! Stunning outdoor patio area with tranquil views of the lush tropical gardens and views of the sea. The multiple terraced outdoor terrace is one of the finest I have ever been to and that includes Europe. The service and food were fantastic along with the best rum punches on the Island!! My wife and family were impressed and look forward to going again on our next trip to Nevis!!

This has to be one of the most soothing, relaxing spots in the Caribbean. The views are worth the hotel price alone. This hotel is up on the hills of Mount Nevis and the grounds are a gardener's dream. We stayed in "Mount Pleasant" and although the room was simply furnished, it was spotless and very comfortable. The days here are meant for quiet: read by the pool, or hilke around the property. What's interesting is that the hotel is transformed at night into a very chic bar and restaurant -- the food is very good. I can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Scarborough and Mount Pleasant have great views and are close to the pool.

Quite simply, this is the one you're looking for.

The older reviews here are about a completely different Golden Rock. The current flavor, after millions of dollars in upgrades to landscaping and the restaurant facilities, places it far beyond the reportedly run-down version of a few years back. It's now a bit of an oasis, 1000 feet up the mountain and miles beyond the other competitors on the island.

We spent five days here in the Sugar Mill (two-story old windmill) and could not have been more pleased. Staff were personable, made daily calls on behalf of our missing luggage, and were attentive without being intrusive. Meals were, without exception, the very best we found on the island (tried Montpelier, Bananas, Nisbet). No matter how we tried, we could not beat the place.

If you're the Four Seasons type, stay there. You'll like the predictability of it; it's a gorgeous and somewhat typical Four Seasons. But if you're a bit more of the Tablet Hotels/Kimpton type, this is the choice. Great aesthetics, fantastic performance by the staff, and just the perfect blend of modern amenities matched by appreciation for the island's very storied and intriguing history. And frankly, rooms here are very underpriced for the island.

I've stayed at many places throughout the Caribbean, but Golden Rock will long linger in my memories. It's among the very few places I'd return to again and again (along with Hix Island House in Vieques).

Room Tip: Sugar Mill is the main one, built into the leftover remnants of the plantation's windmill. The o...

If you are looking for an alternative to an overpriced over-the-top beachside resort, this is the place. I was there this month with a three generation family of seven. It was just past the "season", so we had the place to ourselves and were able to relax in the gorgeous gardens and pool, and watch the resident monkeys wander around on the edge of the forest. There are nature trails right outside your door, and it is easy to arrange a rental car for trips to the beaches and any other excursions you wish to do.

Room Tip: The Sugar Mill is a two story stone room with beautiful views and real "atmosphere."

Golden Rock is a very special place...the grounds and buildings are like a step back in time and the views are gorgeous. The food is also very good. This is a place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet and enjoy the beautiful gardens which really make the place special. The rooms are simply furnished and clean -- the bed was very comfortable. The pool area is also very attractive. If you are high maintenance or need alot of frills in your room, this isn't the place for you. But if you like a beautiful view, great food and a caring friendly staff, this place is wonderful

We have traveled all over the world and this is one of our very favorite places anywhere. The gardens are stunning and reveal themselves to you like a treasure hunt. The terrace with the view to the coast is gorgeous, exceptional. The stone buildings are funky and elegant. We stayed in the Sugar Mill which is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I would like to do every year! The food was very good and the staff was funny and very friendly. Oddly, it was an exceptional value compared to the prices at other hotels and Inns in the area.
