Description: Situated on the edge of the Rainforest Bananas is casual fun dining in a magical setting. We take our food very seriously but it is good home cooking prepared by hard working local ladies, not fancy or Gourmet.. However our menu is very creative and we use only fresh ingredients and where possible free range organic produce and meats. We have Magnificent Sunset views from our Firefly lounge and a superb selection of cocktails and old rums and a small selection of cuban Cigars.

“Bananas is awesome!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2012

Bananas is an amazing find up in the hills on Nevis, West Indies. The decor is fantastic, and the atmosphere is perfect. We went for dinner on a weeknight, at the enthusiastic recommendation of our wonderful cab driver, Tin Tin. First off, try to get Tin Tin to be your cab driver. His advice and guidance are fantastic. He should be declared a Nevisian national treasure.

It was just getting dark when we arrived. A very polite employee was waiting for us with a flashlight to guide us along a cobblestone and grass path under a tunnel of palm trees. The path ended at the stairs leading up to the plantation style bungalow.

Locally produced art is displayed (and for sale) along all the walls. Portraits, landscapes, and even jewelry are all displayed in a manner both prominent and unobtrusive. We sat on a veranda watching the sunset over a canopy of trees.

The complementary fish balls were delicious, but what really set them apart was the dipping sauce: if you can imagine a smooth combination of garlic mayonnaise and red curry, with a tiny pepper kick at the end, you still won't be imagining how good it was.

The menu is an eclectic mix of Thai , North African, and standard bistro dishes. We struggled to decide between the Morrocan lamb or any of the red curry dishes. We finally decided on mussels in a white wine sauce and seared scallops with bacon over angel hair pasta in a light cream sauce. It was all fantastic.

There was only one dish on the menu with actual bananas in it: the banana creme brûlée which I had for a perfect dessert.

We started with a Cosmopolitan and a local Rum punch. Both were fantastic. As elsewhere on the island, we found the rum punches were made in the British style, with bitters. Fantastic. With our meal, we had a reasonably priced bottle of Pinot Noir.

But what really made our evening was the prompt, charming and funny service of our waiters. We liked them so much that we insisted on getting their names so that we give them a shout out here on Trip Advisor. Thanks again, Shane Browne and Miguel Rosario. You guys are awesome. We want to come back just to have you guys take such good care of again.

In case you're still unclear: I highly recommend this restaurant.

“So good, we went back!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2012

We spent a week in Nevis at the Four Seasons and tried a number of different restaurants. Bananas was the best of the bunch! In fact we enjoyed the food so much we went back again on our last night.

Nice garden atmosphere. Although it's off the beaten path, the trip is worth it. The lamb is highly recommended - tender and excellent flavor.

“fun outing, excellent food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2012

Essentially the costs att all restaurants of note in nevis are comparable. The food here was excellent, the art and crafts are fun to see but quite overpriced, and the wine list was better than most.

“It wasn't a good night.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2012

With all the talk about Bananas being the best restaurant on the island, combined with the difficulty of getting there, we were expecting to be wowed. Instead, there were a number of things that caused us to rate it low. To begin, they should make it known that they sell cigars and allow them to be smoked anywhere in the restaurant. Had we known that we never would have gone there. Soon after we had ordered, 2 men lit up cigars. They were part of a group of 8 very loud people. While we understood the restaurant had no control over the noise level it made for an unpleasant evening.
Although lobster is on the menu, they only had one order left. Midway through our meal there was a torrential downpour. The tables are on a porch of a house, wide open and with no rain protection. I got soaked; we scurried to move our table and chairs, as did other diners. No one from the restaurant offered help.
As the plates were cleared by the hostess she asked if everything was alright. I told her I was very wet from the rain. Her first comment was that the rain typically comes in on the other side of the porch. This being said in sight of a number of tables having been moved. She did apologize (although it didn't seem genuine), and offered to pay for our drinks.
As for the food, it was good but did not seem worth the price. Service was not consistent throughout the meal.
