My group of four had Ivan, the tour guide, to ourselves on the day that we visited St. Kitts. An hour into the tour, we began to feel that we had St. Kitts to ourselves too. Ivan's tour took us through lush rainforest, fields of cane, and estate ruins. St. Kitts is a beautiful island.
Three of the four of us had not driven a quad bike before but felt confident after a few laps around the Spectrum Tours base. Two of us later ran our bikes off the track when we drove too quickly around corners. My mother was actually thrown off hers to which Ivan reacted quickly and professionally to assess her injuries. She escaped with only cuts and bruises which Ivan treated once back at the base. This story has since prompted others to share their quad bike horror stories (some resulting in death). We weren't aware that they could be so dangerous.
For us, the tour fell short of a five star rating for a combination of minor criticisms: email communications prior to the tour were not prompt; Elvis, who drove us between the port and the base spoke so little that he came across as unfriendly; the length of the tour was shorter than we expected; water was not provided; Ivan was informative but not impressively so; and, for the amount of money that we paid, we would have liked some fruit as well as the lemonade that was offered to us at the end of the tour.
This experience will remain one of our most memorable in the Caribbean - and not just because of the spectacular bruising that resulted from it! I recommend it to anyone who is willing to take a chance on a quad bike, willing to get dirty and willing to pay the fee.
