“November visit - Great scuba diving. Wonderful friendly service”
Reviewed November 13, 2010

I am writing this from our studio room with the most incredible view here at Bird Rock Beach. This is our first visit to the Caribbean in the fall and we are very surprised how few tourists there are. Actually, I believe we are the only ones here at the hotel. The weather has been fantastic!!

Upon our arrival, I was disappointed in the conditions of the hotel and our room. There were a few minor maintenance issues that were handled for us. The hotel could definitely use a fresh coat of paint everywhere. The grounds are very lush and tropical, so that does make up for a lot. Then we met Ken (Captain Crabby) who heads up the dive operations and he gave us a tour of how Hurricane Earl really did a lot of damage to the property and completely took out the beach. Hopefully by the high season, the hotel, Rocky's Bar, and the beach will be back to normal.

After the first night in a very comfortable bed and waking to a beautiful view from the balcony, I was much more acclimated to the hotel. The staff is friendly and are more than willing to do anything to make you feel welcome.

My husband did four days of diving and a night dive with Captain Crabby, Neil and Elvis (the Divemasters) and had a very good time and some terrific diving which was very much up to the Caribbean standards of marine life and visibility.

We have a rental car for the week and have been touring all over the island and aim to get to every beach. The beaches were deserted and lovely - all were different. Everywhere we went, the people were friendly and smiling. We have also been surprised that the cost for groceries and eating out has been reasonable. The divemasters have given us some terrific local restaurant recommendations. The Ackee Cafe for Friday night Jerk Night was the best meal so far.

We still have more sightseeing to do and are looking forward to a day trip to Nevis. We went to the Marriott last night to look around and it was more like walking into a Vegas mega hotel. The pool was lovely, but their beach huts were just hideous. There was not much there that had the friendly local cultural touch like the Bird Rock Hotel.

If we return to St. Kitts some day, I can't imagine we would stay anywhere else. If you plan to come here soon, hopefully, everything will be back to normal from the hurricane damage. We were able to book this room at a very low price from Travelocity and I feel we really picked up on a bargain. We always look for a place with kitchen facilities so we can have lunch and grab cold beverages whenever we want. The Bird Rock met all of our requirements for a good stay - great location, wonderful staff, kitchen, nice pool. Dive Shop and a very comfortable bed. Another great plus is the WI-FI!!

We stayed at Bird Rock Beach Hotel for a long weekend in May. We chose this hotel because the dive shop was located on site, the rates were unbelievable. We were greeted by a friendly and helpful staff. The room was clean and HUGE - large enough to dry two sets of dive gear. The food was fantastic, from Johnny cakes for breakfast to conch fritter for dinner. We were rained out one day (6-8 ft seas will keep anyone at the bar) but used the time to share stories, explore the island, and enjoy local cuisine. Internet keep us in touch with our families. The diving in St. Kitts was great, perfect for underwater photography. Surface interval are done back at the hotel, I love this feature.

The dive staff was a lot of fun, easy going. The dive sites are nice and calm with practically no current. There is a plenty of life under the water. The dive master was good to point out little sea creatures. Saw some sea turtles and a barracuda that was the biggest, I have seen so far. No sharks :-) I am still ok with that. A good deal of fish and choral reefs.

My wife I live in Puerto Rico. Therefore it is easy for us to make long dive weekends throughout the Caribbean. As our primary purpose is diving, we like the dive resorts. We look for places where you essentially step out of the room and on to the boat. That is what the Bird Rock Beach Resort is.

The room was clean. The food was excellent. There is a main restaurant and a beach side bar and grill. The food was excellent in both places.

The diving was very good. All the dive sites were close to shore, so the boat returns to the dock for surface interval. There was a storm on the weekend we visited, so there was no diving on Saturday. However, the Chief Operating Officer of the Bird Rock, personally drove us around the Basseterre showing us all the sites and local watering holes. The River Taw wreck is a great dive site.

The Bird Rock Beach Hotel is not the Marriott. However, for the price, we haven't found a better value in the Caribbean. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Some of the rooms are occupied by local medical students that are very well behaved. In fact, it was delightful chatting with some of the students in the beach bar at night.

So if you are looking for a unique and affordable getaway, the Bird Rock Beach Hotel is the place.

the room was clean and the food was satisfactory but not extraordinary. however the dive group was far below par. the dive coordinator was apathetic at best and bordered on verbally abusive to the guests. i would suggest another destination if you wish to enjoy the diving

Over a period of 2 1/2 years my wife and I visited St Kitts multiple times and with the exception of one time, when we stayed at our daughters house, we stayed at the Bird Rock Beach Hotel. We found the hotel to be clean and the staff always helpful. My daughter and I snorkeled from their beach (it is small) and had a GREAT time. The food was always very good and the staff did everythig they could to make us comfortable and happy. Many afternoons we sat at the pool and ate dinner out there. The view from our room was unbelievable, and I would recommend this hotel to anyone that is looking for a quaint, clean, friendly place to stay.

I had a leaky facuet in my bathroom all week which they never fixed. I had ants by pillow every night. The paint was peeling off the closet doors. The closet only had 3 hangers. I was part of a group, so the buffet food at first was adequate but did improve into the week. The swim up bar does not exist and is just an eyesore. There are no umbrellas or cushions at the beach which made staying at the beach for a long period of time uncomfortable. And to top it off ,my credit card number was stolen which resulted in fraudulant charges against my account and then had to close.
