Nice place to sit and relax after shopping at port but not a lot to see or do.

My experience of Independence Square was spiritual, soothing and memorable. The Independence Square Fountain is spectacular...the fountain was apparently built to celebrate the sourcing of water in beautiful Basseterre during colonialism and monuments such as this are only found in stately homes or Hyde Park London. So, to arrive in this superb piece of real estate and see this elegant fountain flowing majestically attracting local fauna, cruise passengers flocking to take photos and Kittitians (locals) interacting with the guests was just fantasic. Independence Square was truly a memorable experiance and indeed a very spiritual experience too...because this was the place where the enslaved Africans we bought, sold during colonial rule. The Rastafarians acknowledge their African ancestors during Emancipation celebrations annually August. Independence Square FOUNTAIN also brings a soothing water feature to downtown Basseterre that visitors and locals alike seem to love. "WOW"

Located in the middle of Basseterre, a well maintained square. Sort of like their central park with the government facility adjoining. Slaves were once sold from the Square so the place has a "real" past." Narrow busy commercial streets go off from here.
