“Great day at Cockleshell Beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2011

Cockleshell Beach was my first choice for a beach day in St. Kitts but after reading all the negative comments I thought we (family of four) should try another beach. After talking with someone on the cruise ship who recommended Cockleshell Beach, we decided to give it a try. We are glad that we did, the beach was very nice, not like Orient Beach in St. Marrten but everyone that we met on the beach, aloe vera, jewelry, t-shirt salespeople were very friendly and polite. A polite no thank you was all that it took if we didn't want to buy anything, or better yet we just started talking and asking questions about their island and it seemed like we made friends in St. Kitts. We walked down by Reggae Beach bar for lunch and to see Wilbur the pig, the monkey and resident goat. The lunch and drinks were great, served by a very friendly waitstaff. The one bartender even offered his phone so my son could call home to his girlfriend. We had a wonderful day, had prearranged with our taxi to return for us and enjoyed our beautiful ride back to the port for a little shopping. Very friendly island people and gracious hosts. I was impressed with this stop and I'm writing this review to counter the negative ones that almost made me change my mind on visiting Cockleshell Beach in the first place. Go and see for yourself. A shout out to Leslie...hope you're enjoying your World Champs Green Bay Packer can cooler. See you on Facebook.

“Must visit place in St Kitts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2010

Reggae Beach Bar is a must visit great drinks and food and they have wilbur sr and jr and a monkey and goat. Be careful with the monkey he will grab anything that he can.

The beach is nice you can jet ski, snorkel, ride horses and do what we did nothing :)

Two chairs and and an umbrella are $15 a bucket of beers is $16 they have a nice store and shaded area to eat if you want. Please note not to tip the staff as you bill included a VAT which is a value added tax i.e. your tip

“Not the Best Beach or Good for Snorkeling”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2010

The beach at Cockleshell Bay was OK, but could stand to be cleaned of debris and seaweed. The water offshore was rocky with seaweed growing in patches. The sun chairs and umbrellas are for rent (EC$40) and are in very poor condition. There was hardly anyone else on the beach, and, thankfully, no peddlers.

Cockleshell Bay had fair water visibility for snorkeling, but aside from some rocks and bits of coral at the at the end of the eastern point of the bay, there was nothing but garbage, debris, seaweed, a few starfish, and urchin to see. The western part of the bay was too turbid to see anything, although the weather might have had a part to play in that. There is a very small reef off the very good beach at South Friar’s Bay in front of Shipwreck Bar that provided the only snorkeling we did on St Kitts and Nevis, so I would recommend going there instead.

Also, be aware that the road on the southeastern peninsula is in very poor condition with tons of pot holes, so take it slow, and use extra caution while driving.

“Great view and great water, but loud hustlers were a bother.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2010

We'd read about cockleshell beach and thought, since there didnt seem to be all that much else to do in St Kitts, we'd spend the day there. On getting off our ship, it only took about a minute to find a cab who charged us $26 to go to the beach. It was a nice ride, through the neck on one side of which is the Atlantic and the other the Caribbean. When we got to the beach is when our day started to go downhill. We were met instantly by aloe-massage hustlers, who went away politely enough, but then - for reasons unclear to us- two or three of them started a top-of-lungs, profane argument that lasted- no joke- three hours. It was interesting that they have a resident pig there, and the reggae beach restaurant had pretty good and fairly priced food, but our waittress was sour and inattentive. When we decided to go back to the boat, our driver refused to leave until he could get his van full. And we had to argue with him to just take us back to the pier without selling us another tour of the island. "Five minutes" turned into 25. Finally, we jumped out of his van- feeling like we were being held against our will- and asked another driver who'd just arrived if he'd PLEASE just take us back to the ship NOW. The beach was a nice spot, but I never could feel relaxed.

“Relaxing and Friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2010

On a cruise that visited St. Kitts, my husband and I decided to relax on one of the local beaches. We spoke to a local woman who recommended this beach. The drive was about 15 minutes, and the views are some of the most beautiful I have seen in the Caribbean. The taxi cost about $7 each person.

There are chairs on the beach, a floating platform in the water, and a bar/grill. The funniest part is that they have a monkey named Oliver living with a goat and a pig on the beach! The monkey was friendly but wild. Kids would definitely get a kick out of it. There was also a HUGE pig/boar that slept on the beach and took swims!

This is a good beach for a relaxing day.
