“Cockleshell or South Friar?”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

We visited St. Kitts in April via a cruise ship and our tour guide gave us a choice of Cockleshell or South Friar Beaches. We were glad we saw Cockleshell. Our son enjoyed watching the monkeys but we had in mind a less crowded experience. The beach area is not very deep so it doesn't take very many people before it feels crowded. In addition, the facilities are a little more primitive than those at South Friar. To me, South Friar felt more like a trip to paradise. If you are looking for more of an "island" experience, Cockleshell is probably a better fit. If you are looking for more of a resort experience, South Friar would be your choice.

“BREATH-TAKING!”
Reviewed April 28, 2014

Inexpensive way to just relax and mentally unwind. With great friends, food and a forgiving swimsuit you'll never want to leave this paradise.

“Whitehouse Beach was closed”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

Our cab driver P.J., who we relied on for advice, told us that Whitehouse Beach was the place to go, because it had good snorkeling. However, the week we were there it was closed for renovations. He even took us to see it and it was full of heavy equipment. So, we ended up on Cockleshell Beach. The beach was covered in tourists from the cruise ships on that day. Also you had to rent chairs, which was O.K., but they were in short supply because of the cruise ship tours. We were unable to rent an umbrella to put over our chairs for that reason. We did snorkel and although there was no coral that we could see, we did see some fish and I saw a starfish walking on the bottom of the sand. Our cab driver told us to go in front of the Spice Mill restaurant and not to the far end of the beach known as Reggae Beach. We could smell reefer drifting down to our area from that section.

“The best beach on the island in our view”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

We have a 3 and a 7 year old and this beach is young family perfection, loungers only feet from the waters edge and reasonably priced. The reggae beach end was a total favourite and a day can easily be spent here eating in the restaurant and having Caribs and fruit juices delivered. Great snorkelling for younger snorkels to be had at the end of the pier too. The spice mill end of the beach is less inviting for young families due to a lack of shade, we ate in the spice mill with our kids but it wasn't ideal for a 3 year old whereas reggae beach bar, because it's more rough and ready was much more child friendly.

“Very relaxing.”
Reviewed April 15, 2014 via mobile

We couldn't wait to get to the beach We were so looking forward to laying on lounge chairs and swimming in the Caribbean. My daughter Gabby uses a wheelchair, it was easy to get from the parking lot and on to the beach and the driver was so helpful. Shirley our waitress was very nice and we enjoyed the pina coladas and the rum punch drinks. It was a "ooh la la day."
