We went looking for a beach to snorkel at and drove to Cockshell beach. The snorkeling wasn't very good and the parking area smelled like sewage.

We visited Cockleshell Beach during a recent 5 port cruise of the neighboring islands. We arranged for our ride once we got off the ship with the local taxi drivers (several tried to talk us into another beach), agreed to pay the same $7 p.p. one way fare other reviews mention, and were taken to the beach by van with 8 or so other people going to the same beach. The ride took about 30 minutes (including a stop on top of the main hill for picture taking) with some really good steep hill and ocean views along the way. We did see a few wild monkeys in the trees along the road. If you are looking for a beach which is just a little off the beaten path, but has enough visitors to drive critical mass for some good amenities, a couple of small restaurants and bars with chair side service, SUP, kayaking, snorkeling, jet skiing (unfortunately no was was doing flyboarding that day), then Cockleshell Beach is a good choice for you. We established ourselves in front of Reggae Beach, and helped ourselves to 2 chairs and an umbrella (just grab your seats and the wait staff will swing by to collect the rental fee ($5 p/ chair and umbrella). The view from the beach is pretty (including a great view of Nevis) and the beach where we were was clean and easy to walk/swim. We sat up by the water and didn't have any trouble with peddlers all day (they seemed to go behind us). We rented a jet ski ($50 for 30 minutes) and had a blast doing that. Drinks were moderately priced at Reggae's. I would describe the buildings on the beach as authentic with local charm. The feel was generally laid back with mostly cruising families and couples (not a spring break type crowd) but everyone seemed to be having a good time. We arranged our return time with our taxi driver when we were dropped off (and didn't pay until we returned to the port), and he picked us up right on time.

We took a taxi from the cruise port to this beach. We were told by our driver that this was the best beach on the island. After coming here, I'd like to see what the worst beach looks like!!! My husband & I split the cab with his parents, and it was about a 30 minute ride from the port, $7 p.p. The views on the drive were beautiful, so we were expecting a beach that was equally as gorgoeus. We were sadly mistaken. We were taken to the beach & walked into a bar/restaurant by our driver and were introduced to a lady who our driver told to "take care of us" and that she would call him when we were ready to leave, just let her know. The beach area around that particular restaurant was rocky & we didn't want to rent a chair for $5, so we started walking down the beach. Constant harrassment at each place we walked by, "Come sit here, come look at this jewelry, come get a massage, buy some aloe!". We are not strangers to the locals trying to make a buck, but it was really getting ridiculous & it was obvious that the taxi drivers specifically take the tourists to this area. We did finally find a quiet spot farther down the beach, past all the bars & restaurants. We did get a few drinks from one of the bars, each time a different version of rum punch, and different prices. The beach itself is rocky, the sand is sand, but not fine sand, and very few shells. The water was clear, and you could see some small fish around our feet. Some people were snorkeling farther out & you could rent gear from one of the bars, if you wanted. The best part of the beach was the view of Nevis & the mountains. We were trying to leave & my father in law was slathered with aloe from a local trying to give him a massage on the beach, just as a "free" sample of her services. Too weird. We did have a nice time relaxing, but I don't think we will be visiting this beach again when we return to St. Kitts.

Some of our friends booked the cockleshell beach excursion through the ship. We walked off the ship and were greeted by hordes of people wanting to take us to the beach. We walked until we found an older, reserved gentleman and he took us to cockleshell and came back for us. That is very important that you make plans for your driver to come back and get you. It is about thirty minutes from the ship. The scenery is wonderful and you will see lots of monkeys. There is a really cute monkey at the beach that you can get your pic made with him for about 5.00. You will also have beach vendors selling their jewelry...take the time to look...I bought a beautiful red coral necklace for 20.00!! Great waitresses and the chairs have little flags that you can pop up when you need service! Yay!

At Debbie's bar ,which is about 100 metres to right as you enter the beach. The sun beds and parasol are only $10 for 2 people and beers(Carib) are only $2 .
Snorkelling with turtles was amazing in the area from the diving platform to the headland.
