Owner description: Hardened lava formations at the base of coastal cliffs.
Reviewed June 11, 2013

The locations is very similar to the volcanic rock formations off the Oregon coast of the United States. The waves crashing over the rocks are beautiful and graceful. There isnt much more to do or see than this though, so this should be planned with other locations to be toured or seen (ie Brimstone Hill Fortress)

Black rocks jut out of the water as waves crash into them. It is a very pretty view. There are several vendors set up and donkeys walking around. Great location for pictures.

Black Rocks are the formation of volcanic lava that fell into the ocean along the Atlantic coast off St. Kitts, creating rough rock formations in the surf. The view from the cliffs at Black Rocks is fantastic, but other than that there is not much to see or do. There are a few very rustic stands where local vendors sell craft items and some edibles. Good opportunity for some great photography, but not much else. Taking a taxi is the best way to get here as it is unmarked and probably very easy to miss. We stopped here very briefly on a round the island tour with our taxi driver.

We were on a cruise and took a "taxi driver tour" of the island. St. Kitts is one place you can get off the boat and hire a taxi, at a very fair price, for an island tour. Our driver, nicknamed "The King" (or De King as it was printed on his taxi) was wonderful. He was a St. Kitt's native and very knowledgeable. This was our second time to St. Kitts and instead of sitting on a beach, we thought we would tour the island. Black Rocks was one of the fun stops on our tour. It's a gorgeous view. Plus, there are wonderful vendors. I especially liked the booth of a man named, Halvaca, who sells jewelry he has made from local plants and seeds. Two years ago when we were in St. Kitts, Halvaca was a street vendor in downtown Basseterre. We met him at that time and purchased jewelry from him. He also took the time to teach our then 16 year old son, a game that can be played anywhere, using 16 pieces of anything. When my son returned home he taught all of his friends how to play the game and he continues to play the game and teach new friends how to play. So, it was a wonderful surprise for us to find Halvaca at Black Rocks. Look for him when you stop there. His booth has a sign that reads "Local Craft. Hand Made." He sells hats and some other souvenirs, but his unique jewelry can't be found anywhere else. Our island tour lasted about 4 hours and we had our taxi driver drop us at The Marriott Hotel at Frigate Bay. After we enjoyed lunch there, and a walk on the beach, we got another taxi back to the ship.

We got alot of great pictures here. We bought coconut candy and tamarind candy from a lovely little lady. Good views of other islands from here. A few little shops to buy thing if that what you are looking for.
