“Black Rocks - Good photographic opp”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013

Black Rocks are the formation of volcanic lava that fell into the ocean along the Atlantic coast off St. Kitts, creating rough rock formations in the surf. The view from the cliffs at Black Rocks is fantastic, but other than that there is not much to see or do. There are a few very rustic stands where local vendors sell craft items and some edibles. Good opportunity for some great photography, but not much else. Taking a taxi is the best way to get here as it is unmarked and probably very easy to miss. We stopped here very briefly on a round the island tour with our taxi driver.

“Fun Stop on Our Island Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

We were on a cruise and took a "taxi driver tour" of the island. St. Kitts is one place you can get off the boat and hire a taxi, at a very fair price, for an island tour. Our driver, nicknamed "The King" (or De King as it was printed on his taxi) was wonderful. He was a St. Kitt's native and very knowledgeable. This was our second time to St. Kitts and instead of sitting on a beach, we thought we would tour the island. Black Rocks was one of the fun stops on our tour. It's a gorgeous view. Plus, there are wonderful vendors. I especially liked the booth of a man named, Halvaca, who sells jewelry he has made from local plants and seeds. Two years ago when we were in St. Kitts, Halvaca was a street vendor in downtown Basseterre. We met him at that time and purchased jewelry from him. He also took the time to teach our then 16 year old son, a game that can be played anywhere, using 16 pieces of anything. When my son returned home he taught all of his friends how to play the game and he continues to play the game and teach new friends how to play. So, it was a wonderful surprise for us to find Halvaca at Black Rocks. Look for him when you stop there. His booth has a sign that reads "Local Craft. Hand Made." He sells hats and some other souvenirs, but his unique jewelry can't be found anywhere else. Our island tour lasted about 4 hours and we had our taxi driver drop us at The Marriott Hotel at Frigate Bay. After we enjoyed lunch there, and a walk on the beach, we got another taxi back to the ship.

“Tough to find but worth it”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2012

Super cool giant black boulders being smashed by Atlantic surf. Local vendors serve street lunch and crafts. If brave and athletic like us, you van climb down the cliff and climb the black rocks (not if you have kids!) instead of just looking at them. Tough to find and poorly marked, we had to ask three people where they were. Thankfully all were friendly and pointed us in the right direction.

“Fantastic views, friendly people...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

Our experience in St. Kitts was hugely positive. The people are very friendly and the sights are amazing! The Black Rocks on the Atlantic coast of the island are spectacular. Our tour guide stopped at this small village where we were able to take in this magical place. It's a must for anyone visiting St. Kitts.
