The drive around the island was great. From the beach road, you see the fort situated on the top of a high hill. The fort is well preserved and is a great photo opportunity. The buildings, walls and cannons were in great shape. The fiews from the fort were great and would have been worth the trip. Well worth the trip and be sure to take a camera. I know that everytime I view the pictures--and there are many--I see something new. A must see if you ever visit St. Kitts!

We were on a cruise and took a "taxi driver tour" of the island. St. Kitts is one place you can get off the boat and hire a taxi, at a very fair price, for an island tour. Our driver, nicknamed "The King" (or De King as it was printed on his taxi) was wonderful. He was a St. Kitt's native and very knowledgeable. This was our second time to St. Kitts and instead of sitting on a beach, we thought we would tour the island. Brimstone Hill was a lot of fun to explore and to take pictures. There is a gorgeous view from the fort. They have a short video (I think it was 9 minutes long) that explains the history of the fort, a small bookstore and a very small restaurant where you can buy, burgers, sandwiches, drinks and treats. The restrooms were clean and stocked. Our island tour lasted about 4 hours and we had our taxi driver drop us at The Marriott Hotel at Frigate Bay. After we enjoyed lunch there, and a walk on the beach, we got another taxi back to the ship.

We visited Brimstone Fortress with our grown kids 20 years after just the two of us took a tour of the fortress and found it even more impressive than before. Since our last visit, there was more historical interpretation and renovation of the massive fort. The views remain spectacular. The incredible condition of the fortress allowed a real good sense of the history of the fort and its defense.

This is really a "Must See" for those with an interest in history or just those wanting s great view.

A few other notes: The size of the place and terrain do require some walking to really explore, and the drive up and down is on a very narrow road. Also - we did not pay for the interpretive self-guided tour player but found the small paper guide and the information available in the upper fort sufficient to understand the place.

When we lived on Nevis we would come and visit St. Kitts from time-to-time, and this was always a must see for all of us given that my wife and I, plus our kids, love history. Well-preserved, and a great opportunity to learn about the Gibraltar of the Caribbean. Would love to go back some day. Enjoy!

We took a trip with with our guide , Mr. Thenford Grey called "The Tour". We saw a large part of the island ,with many photo-op spots. The highlight of the tour was the UNESCO World Heritage site called the Brimstone Hill Fort. Wear good walking shoes, since there are quite a few steps to climb to the fort. Great vistas of the ocean and other islands from the top. Mr. grey was very knowledgable about the island's history, architecture and flora. His tour bus was very clean , air conditioned and comfortable . Would take this tour again. There were several people that had taken this tour with Mr. Thenford and were repeating it.
