“Stop for lunch on your trip around the Island..”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2011

Good West Indian Offerings for lunch.... A beautiful setting, overlooking the Island of St Eustasius and gorgeous grounds.... Up a treacherous dirt road though an old sugar cane plantation. About midway around the island, and a nice break .

“Delicious Caribbean Lunch Buffet with Nice Views and Grounds”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2011

As part of our week-long honeymoon on St. Kitts and Nevis, my wife and I drove on a Sunday afternoon to Rawlins Plantation in the far north of the island for its lunch buffet and to visit the grounds. The plantation inn was easy to find, but the bumpy, gravel access road was questionable for our rental car and more appropriate for an all-terrain vehicle. Once we arrived, our host seated us in a shaded area of the restaurant until the buffet lunch was ready. While waiting, we enjoyed their specialty fruit punches and the beautiful view of St. Eustatius (Statia) in the distance. Prior to lunch, the manager/host came by again; and he assumed that we were staying at the Marriott (and this happened a few times while we were visiting St. Kitts). When we told him that we were staying at another plantation inn on the island, he became somewhat defensive ("that place is very nice, but we have a better view than they do" of the ocean); and he mentioned casually that the Prime Minister would be arriving with some of his delegation for a meeting. At any rate, he was glad we came to Rawlins. Soon afterward, the buffet was ready; and we were seated at another area of the restaurant. The food was delicious, plentiful, and very authentic to St. Kitts. We enjoyed the johnny cakes, ginger beef croquettes, salt fish, pasta salad, and vegetables among other items. The service was very good, and we came to realize that we were some of the only guests there for this excellent feast. (We saw some of the St. Kitts officials make their way to Rawlins, but they were meeting in another area of the inn. Still, it was neat that they were here, too.). After the meal, my wife and I took some time to explore this historical property. The grounds are indeed beautiful, but we noticed that the swimming pool was empty and we were surprised at this. Rawlins Plantation Inn is well worth a visit, but it is relatively isolated and away from most of the island's main attractions (a 30-40 minute drive to Basseterre and an hour away from the southeastern peninsula). We recommend having a meal here and checking out any of the other sites in this part of St. Kitts, especially the Black Rocks).

“AMAZING LUNCH!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2011

My husband and I visited Rawlins Plantation Inn for lunch based on a recommendation from a woman who lives on St. Kitts. We were there for 1 day while taking a cruise. The ride up to the Inn off the main road was fun, especially on a scooter, but when we arrived it was well worth it. The atmosphere is gorgeous. We went up onto the porch and enjoyed a cocktail while waiting for lunch. There were only a couple of other tables of people there so it was very private, quiet and relaxing. My husband ordered their rum punch...actually, he had 2 of them. He said it was fantastic but they wouldn't give him the recipe. The waitress told us it was top secret! They were offering a lunch buffet but we both ordered the tilapia off the main lunch menu. Quite simply the most fantastic piece of tilapia we both have ever had! The only negative is the price. With 2 lunches and 3 cocktails, our bill was $100 including tip. OUCH! But, we were on vacation and we don't do that hardly ever. In the end, it was well worth it because we had an amazing lunch with amazing views!

“Beautiful Inn, Wonderful People”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2011

My wife and I stayed at the Rawlins Plantation Inn from a Wednesday through to a Sunday in February of 2011. The Inn is beautifully sited with a fantastic view of St. Eustatius (close island to the north of St. Kitts) from the main porch/ veranda. We highly recommend staying several days, enjoying the great food and company of the fine people that work at the Inn. The staff was very generous with their time and good advice. We slept late and were pretty lazy while there, but we did walk down to the beach at Dieppe Bay. If you are interested in the history of the island, the history of Caribbean, Dieppe Bay will be an important stop (It was the first colonial outpost in the Caribbean). While in Dieppe Bay, we visited The Golden Lemon (same owner as Rawlins). It has a beachfront, a pool, and is a beautiful historic house... it may well be the oldest house on the island. The town is within walking distance of the Rawlins Plantation Inn. We also hiked to the top of the Mount Liamuiga, formerly Mount Misery, a dormant volcano some 1,156 m high. A member of the Rawlins staff volunteered to guide us up the mountain trail (a national park). It was not an easy hike; the view into the volcano is very fine; we think worth the effort (especially given the good company and discussions of life on the island). What else? We are architects from New York City, so... we were happy to get out of the cold north, but we were also looking for adventure... not just relaxation (even though that is absolutely available). Again, the Inn was beautiful and the staff is wonderful. The food was very good. We will return.

“Relaxing and romantic getaway in paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2010

Our rooms were wonderful, spacious and comfortable. The food and service were first class. The four course dinner was the best we have had on the island and the wine recommended by the owner was absolutely perfect. The incredibly lush gardens are spectacular and must be seen to be believed. While lunches at Rawlins are a treat, consider staying overnight for the full plantation experience.
