“Excellent resort and diving!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2011

We have chosen to stay at Brac Reef Resort numerous times. The staff are all very friendly and professional. The food is out of this world. The rooms are clean and cozy. The grounds are well kept. There is always a smile on everyones face! The dive shop is connected to the property for ease of diving. Relaxation is a must when you arrive on Cayman Brac and especially when you arrive at Brac Reef Resort. You can chose to walk on the beach after dinner, have a drink at the bar, enjoy the entertainment or retire to your room where you can rest inside or outside on the lovely patio/balcony! We love the Resort and will continue to return year after year!

Room Tip: 2nd floor is always nice!

My standards are high and this resort and dive company exceeded my expectations! They have excellent diving, amenities, food and best of all, a great staff. They do everything possible to accommodate any request. Did I mention the food? Incredible all inclusive trip with outstanding food. Diving was clear and 87 degrees. Lots of corals and sea life. It doesn't get better than this!

Room Tip: Pack light, you don't need a lot of clothes. It was warm and wonderful during our stay.

The resort has been extensively rebuilt after Hurricane Paloma in 2009. We were there for 10 days, the first 4 days just with 2 friends, the last week with a group from our local dive center. We were on the all-inclusive plan, which includes all meals and 1 drink in the bar per day. All the food was delicious, and the service (from EVERYONE!) was excellent! The rooms are comfortable, with a big screen TV, tiled bathroom with a large shower, and a ceiling fan in addition to the air conditioner. The spa is small but okay. When making your appointments, be sure to check that the date & time are correct.

The diving is a separate operation, but it is also excellently done! The boats are NOT crowded, the crews are very helpful, the dive masters (especially Manny) are marvelous, and the dive sites are SO beautiful. The dive shop is small, but well stocked.

Room Tip: the best views are on the 2nd floor, but the easiest access are on the 1st.

I stayed at Brac Reef Labor Day weekend this year and it was truly the most relaxing and rejuvenating experience that I have had in a really long time. The atmosphere of the resort is so relaxed. The food absolutely blew me away! It is such a peaceful place and you truly feel "away" from everything. The Beach snorkel I did was great. I saw so many things I had not seen before on other snorkel trips at other places. I highly recommend this resort to anyone who wants to "get away" but enjoy great dining and great snorkeling as well.

Room Tip: I loved the second floor - great views.

Trip to Brac Reef Resort with husband for 10th Anniversary and 5 friends to help celebrate. We had our honeymoon here in 2001 and have returned almost every year (and will keep coming back!). Rooms are great and very comfortable. The balconies/porches are great for relaxing. All staff was outstanding - friendly and helpful - both Resort and Reef Divers. Love having the same divemeasters year after year! Also took advantage of spa services several times and that was also outstanding. I have travelled to many destinations including others in Caribbean, Micronesia, and Australia and this remains my favorite place for all out relaxation.

28 of us just returned from a trip to Brac. It was our second time using Reef Resort properties (first one was in Little Cayman in '09). Brac was hit by a hurricane in '08, so much of the resort has been rebuilt. Don't go with expectations that it's the Ritz or Sandals. It is what it is...a very clean, well run dive resort. All the rooms had blow dryers, in-room safes, and Rusk amenities (shampoo, conditioner, soaps, lotion). There is free Wi-fi and it was fast. The junior suite is slightly larger, has a mini-frig and the addition of an easy chair, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra cost. The oversized shower is fantastic with 2 shower heads and controls

Staff is very efficient and overall did a great job.

We bought our package with breakfast and dinner daily. Both were plentiful, fresh and delicious. For breakfast there is an omelet/egg station (made to order). There are various cereals, juices, pastries, sausage, bacon, Belgium waffles, etc. Dinner always includes at least 3 proteins, soup, a couple of different salads, several side dishes and 3 desserts. There's hot coffee, hot tea, cocoa, lemonade and iced tea. Carbonated beverages cost extra. On Friday night it's menu order with 4 selections: steak, jerk chicken, ribs, jerk fish and you can have a combination of these. One night there's free appetizers (conch fritters, pizza, coconut shrimp, nachos, etc.), rum punch and margaritas at the bar. Since lunch wasn't included, we mainly ate at the open air bar. Meals are large enough to split and are reasonably priced. I highly recommend the salads, quesadillas, nachos, and sandwiches. The only thing I didn't like was the fish and chips which were greasy and fishy tasting. Also, if you have a mini frig in your room, you can stock up at the local grocery and make your own lunches, or bring a few rations with you. We took PB&J with us, crackers, cheese and various other snacks in a small collapsable ice chest with no problem. Free ice is by the bar. The resort has bikes for guests to use, free of charge, and the grocery and liquor stores are about 3 miles away. I wouldn't recommend a taxi because they're very expensive. Our ride to the store was $35 round trip.

Drinks at the bar can get expensive, so we purchased beer at he liquor store and iced it down. Those without an ice chest used their trash cans from their rooms. Talk about improvising!

For entertainment the resort had movie night, karaoke, Bingo, and once there was live music.

The pool was small and didn't have umbrellas or shade for lounging. There are ample hammocks for lounging on the beach, and they are in the shade. There are also numerous lounge chairs on the beach.

There is a tradition of painting rocks with pictures and signs and then leaving them on the grounds. We had a blast doing this. Just ask for paint at the front desk.

There's some interesting sightseeing on the island and car rentals are easy. It was just $35 a day, however, you have to drive on the left. The caves are worth seeing, as are the bluffs and some of the beaches. A lot of debris washes up on the beaches though, and it mars the beauty. Cayman definitely needs to sponsor a clean-up campaign.

Now for the most important stuff -- diving. I can't say enough about the quality of our divemasters, Menne and Barb. They truly made our trip move enjoyable. The staff is aggressively killing lionfish, and unlike in Curacao, we never saw an abundance of them. Boats are large, clean, fast, and roomy. They're equiped with heads and a decent size camera table. Snacks offered after diving were chips, animal cookies, and fresh oranges. There's also a large water cooler and beach towels. They provide an ice chest if guests want to bring their own drinks. There's a freshwater hose for washing down after a dive. There are 3 platforms for entering the water and the divemasters bring your kit to you. All divers take to the platform are mask, fins and camera. When divers get back on the boat, DM's take the gear at the platform and change the tanks. When divers finish at the end of the day, all they take off the boat is their gear bag (provided by the resort) with mask, fins, wetsuit and any other personal items. There is a locker room for storing gear and freshwater tanks for washing everything. Water was really too warm (84-86 degrees) for a wetsuit, so the majority of our divers wore just swim suits with rash guards or t-shirts. Those that swore that they couldn't dive without a wetsuit because they got cold easily were soon shucking it.

One negative was that on the afternoon dives our group complained that they felt rushed. They were also with the divemasters from the other boat, and didn't find them as warm and friendly as Menne and Barb. The boats didn't go very far out in the afternoon, either. Out of 5 afternoon dives, I only heard that one was really good (Tombstone).

As far as dive sites, Snapper Reef was our favorite.

The only other negative was that sometimes there was a strong sewerage smell that was caused by seawood washing up on shore. We found out that the resort tries to eradicate it monthly, but it needs it more often. It was especially disturbing when we were trying to eat lunch outside. There's also a lot of garbage that washes up and that needs to be dealt with more frequently.

Overall I would recommend it and would definitely return. It was a great value for money, it was very relaxing and clean, and the food, diving and dive facilities were excellent.
