Elkhorn coral is a rare item in most reefs. There were several groups growing on tops of the coral heads.

The finger coral heads are my favorite types of dives. You go down one and up the next. Then when you get done with the finger corals you can do the tops of the reefs and see the baby fish and so much more.

The Elk Horn Coral was nice. Unfortunately, the last Hurricane had damaged a lot of the coral, but it was still a good dive site full of many colorful fish.

As the crew of Reef Divers explained - as soon as a reef is given a name for what is on it, that element often disappears! Stag and Elkhorn coral are one of the first victims of hurricane surge damage. The 2004 and 2008 hurricanes did tear things up however there is some Elkhorn coral regrowing - its not a forest but its trying its best! Its a very nice reef with good population of fish, sponges, fans etc. The dive profile would be 20-50' with some nice large coral heads.

The elkhorn coral is beautiful, and the marine life was plentiful. The coral isn't very colorful, but the formations are great. The dive was relaxing and shallow (20-50'),
