“Sounded great!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

We were told this was the place to go for the best jerk chicken on the island on a Friday and Saturday night. Went along on Saturday, but nothing happening - not a jerk chicken in sight! Presume these things only happen in high season, shame when the choice for eating out is limited on the island at any time.

“Wonderful location, definitely a non-touristy feel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2013

We visited this establishment towards the end of our stay and wish we had gone sooner, so that we could have gone a few more times.

A great locale -- right on the shore -- with views of the ocean and up and down the shoreline; breaking waves right nearby add to the ambience. We got to chat with a few of the locals and that added to the visit. It was from some of the locals that we learned about some of the things we were curious about.

The food was simple yet good, island style, and the fish was excellent.

There is also a small market here, which we didn't visit.

La Esperanza is a favorite with locals. Friday night's jerked chicken is excellent and you can eat in or take it out.

“Best Fish Ever”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

Stopped in for some apps and a few drinks here, a handfull of locals and us were it while we were here. We tried to tell the bartender what we wanted, just some apps with drinks and she did not really understand so she tried to explain to the cook and he had a hard time understanding too so I talked to him and he told me had some fish and some chicken on hand so I asked that he just put some of both on a plate with some fries for 4 people. We got 2 plates of fish and 2 plates of chicken so that worked both with fries. I had a plate of the fish and it was very lightly battered and I must say it is the best fish I have ever had! It was so good. The chicken was fine but nothing like the fresh fish he made.
We met the guy that owns the local bakery and he was a pleasure. One local there made our visit a little uncomfortable wanting us to buy him drinks so after we ate we left. But overall we had a very nice time there and great food.

“Exceptional jerk chicken”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

On Fridays and Saturdays, a small grill shack in the front parking lot of La Esperanza serves up the best Jerk Chicken meals. For $10 CY you get half a chicken, beans and rice, potatoe salad, phenomenal jerk sauce and a grilled plantain served in a styrofoam dish. The food is amazing. Bring it to the bar in back, order a cold one and listen to to the waves crashing 20 feet away. On the days we went, Jerk Chicken was the only option but it was stellar.
