We stayed for 4 nights in August and wished it was longer! The pictures don't do this cottage justice, all the rooms are much bigger than you think, the kitchen is fantastic with lots of working space and the bathroom is gorgeous with the best shower I've seen in a rental cottage. We took my 11 month old boy and the high chair, cot and stair gate were great. The dogs loved the enclosed back garden and we loved the reclining sofa which was perfect to watch a DVD ( the collection there is very good ) with a glass of wine! A very short stroll to the beach, everything you need is in the shed.... I can honestly say the owners have thought of everything! Plenty of parking too. We would love to return.... oh and a lovely welcome pack too .... perfect!
The house is in a great location, with in walking distance to the beach. We had some lovely days out to Beddgelert, Betws-y- Coed and Criccieth. Porthmadog has some nice shops which is a short drive away,I would recommend the Big Rock cafe there.
The house has excellent facilities and is very clean and comfortable, saying this it is also very dog friendly with an enclosed large garden which the dogs loved. I would definitely recommend this property and hope to visit it again. Jo the owner is very helpful and quick to respond.
We enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing weekend stay - Gorlys cottage has everything you could ask for and more...
The welcome hamper was a lovely surprise, especially the cake... perfect with a cuppa after a journey through stunning Welsh scenery :-)
Dogs loved the beach, and were so relaxed we could even enjoy lazy mornings reading the paper!
Thank you Jo for a perfect break.
Well planned cottage. Luxury kitchen. Good enclosed garden at back. Outside seating area as well as grass. Access through holiday park or via road to beach.would be good for children.
What an amazing find. We were looking for somewhere to spend our first summer/beach holiday with our first grandchild, without travelling too far from home in Derbyshire. This was perfect. The house had everything we needed for 4 adults + the travel cot. The amenities and the decor in the house were top spec, especially the superb kitchen and beautiful bathroom. Excellent shower and bath, to suit adults and children. The garden was lovely too, and we spent a lot of time in the front garden as it was so quiet and shady during the mini heatwave - yes, how lucky were we! The beach is really close and convenient, especially with the hand-truck that you can use, complete with wind breaks and portable chairs - even the buckets and spades were there for us to use. Because of the weather we were able to have a couple of barbeques in the back garden, which is easy on the hard surface.
There are so many excellent places to visit, within easy reach, although the beach could be your only need - even the ice-cream seller comes along. If you need to go further afield, we went on the Ffestiniog railway to Blaenau (lovely scenic ride from Porthmadog, starting with a hearty breakfast at Spooners adjacent to the station, and a journey of 1h15min) and also went to a lovely butterfly farm called Pili Palas which is just over the Menai Bridge in Anglesey - perfect for young children. For the grown-ups who like castles we went to Criccieth, Harlech and Caenarfon - all have something to offer, even if you just want to stroll through the towns.
Just a word of caution regarding Gwynedd Council - they haven't changed their car parking machines to accept new £1 coins (as yet) and it would be worth collecting a few old ones before you try to park. Parking fees are not extortionate - a few £ for 4 hrs or so - but it could be an issue later in the high season finding a space in some of the smaller places, like Beddgelert, but well worth the visit.
We had all the facilities we needed for eating in, but it was a holiday, so for takeaways we recommend the local chippy - Schooners - and the Chinese in Porthmadog - Happy Chop Suey - and finally, for an Indian - Passage to India, also in Porthmadog. Everywhere we went we found lovely cafes, so we will have to have a cake-less month to recover.
OK, if it had poured with rain our holiday would have been very different, but there would still have been plenty of indoor venues to get to. And there's no such thing as bad weather, just wrong clothes.
Hope this helps. I want to go back soon, and that's always the best test!
