I have been to Grand Cayman a half dozen times. I thought I knew all the good snorkel locations, but hands down, Governors beach takes the prize. Governors reef is amazing! So much life there, but be careful, I was surrounded by a school of fish that were very curious. Good stuff.

It is full of rocks all along the beach and it becomes 3-4 ft deep within a few inches from shore. It is a very steep change which makes it very dangerous for kids.

Governor's Beach is located in the middle of Seven Mile Beach. This is the clearest water and the finest sand I have ever seen (including Hawaii, Bermuda, and others). The clear water makes for some very good snorkeling. I saw a large sting ray swimming easily about 15 yards from shore. I saw another (smaller) sting ray swimming about 5 yards from shore. Lots of fish too. There are tall pine and palm trees all along the beach that provide shade. There are no stones or coral in the water to hurt your feet. The beach was never crowded during my stay. The sunsets on the water are magnificent. There is a parking lot for those not staying near the beach. The governor's home is actually on the beach. It's good to be king (or governor).

This is where we would go every night to watch sunset. It seems to be a popular location, and since we've been usually during off season, never too crowded. The water is so calm on this beach...swimming there is so delicious, floating on a raft even better. Love Governor's beach!
Wish I was Governor!

Perfect sand, a nice smaller reef about 50 yard out for snorkelers, lots of shade if you prefer to avoid the full force of the sun. Get there earlier if you want a picnic table as there are only two. Bring a beach towel and that's really all you need.
