“"Best" in so many ways!”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

The Silver Sands Condos is the best in so many ways. Complex has 40 units, only 15 or so in the rental pool so it's never crowded. Plenty of room on the beach or the pool. Never had to "reserve" beach chairs and we could always find chairs with shade! The beach is one of the best. It's a very long beach area, and has nice sand. Also snorkeling right off the beach. Location is ideal. 8 minute walk to West Bay grocery store. Easy drive to Georgetown or Sound side restaurants and boating. Cemetery Reef snorkeling site is just a short swim or snorkel down the beach. Great snorkeling there for sure! Condos are spacious and well equipped, Staff is friendly and helpful.

We liked Silver Sands so much we returned last March 2014 with our 3 kids & sister & brother-in-law. Picked up a rental van from Marshall's at the airport (it seems Hertz gave away our van since our flight was delayed 2 hours. Learn from our mistake: call Hertz to re-confirm your car rental!). It's a 15-min. drive north of the airport, 10-min. drive to the best restaurants in any direction & to Georgetown (except during rush hour which can delay you an extra 10 minutes). Watch out for the new highway & roundabouts while driving on the left side of road, British style. We booked Unit # 15 this time: well-appointed with most modern conveniences! It had a wonderful ambience. Must have been professionally decorated, totally updated kitchen & 3 baths (rainshower heads, body jets, best American standard toilets, soap dispensers built-into sinks filled with nice liquid soap); satellite flat-screen TVs in both bedrooms & living room; fridge water & ice dispenser; very comfy beds including trundle; ceiling fans everywhere; A/C worked perfectly. Altho' unit 15 backs onto West Bay Rd. which can get noisy on weekdays rush-hour, you only heard it from the kitchen (back of the unit's main floor) & it wasn't bad. New windows in bedrooms on the 3rd floor (2-story units) made it indistinguishable from white noise. There is a parking lot behind your unit, then a very tall hedge to muffle the noise from the road. The predominantly American snowbird residents were so sweet, welcoming & up-to-date on current events. They even asked me what we thought of our Mayor Rob Ford! Let's not go there. The view was oceanfront. Grounds lush & beautifully maintained. Tennis courts in good condition. Beach volleyball was a twice-daily event. Snorkelled safely right from our beach daily! There's a large barracuda further from shore but lots of beautiful fish close to Cemetery Reef a short swim north. Never played bocce ball. We shared our 400ft. of beachfront with approx. 6 families. The pool was perfect & overlooked the ocean so we could see our kids in either body of water. The only drawback was the housekeeper in charge of preparing our Unit at check-in (Rosemarie). She left breadcrumbs on kitchen counters, spilt milk & food debris from the last guest on fridge shelves, poorly vacuumed floors with food debris & sand. Contacted Manager (Gwenda) who sent her back to fix the problem. The woman does not see very well & kept asking me what else I needed her to do. I got fed up having to stand over her to explain what cleaning needed to be done at every part of the unit that I took the vacuum & vacuumed the unit myself (including behind the furniture wherever possible). And Gwenda agreed to switch our housekeeper for the duration of our stay. The replacement housekeeper was much better. Our in-laws stayed in Unit # 38 siding on the ocean with an oceanview. Although it was functional & comfortable, Unit #38 needed updating throughout & didn't have as nice a view from the main floor patio or the dining room (oceanview blocked by the hedge. What a shame. They should put 1-way reflective glass in dining room window for privacy & take out the hedge.). Fosters IDA was 5 min. away. Drove to Rum Point, snorkelled Smith Cove, Cayman Kai Reef, drove to Frank Sound & did the SweetSpot Bio-Luminescence night kayak tour from Kaibo Beach. Amazing experience. And we felt pretty safe driving throughout the island even at night. Silver Sands makes a perfect home base for sightseeing AND a perfect home away from home if you want to stay on property to enjoy what it has to offer. Thanks Gwenda & Oleta for making sure we were comfortable & looked after during our stay!

Room Tip: Read detailed unit descriptions on their website. Very accurate.

Once again, all that was good before was on par or even better this time around. After a frightful winter in the Northeast US, our retreat to Grand Cayman underscored the recuperative ability of the Caribbean. And Silver Sands is the centroid of our operations. Our favorite manager, Gwenda, provided another fine welcome and updates on their new wifi system. Our unit was its typical efficient and well decorated self. The Silver Sands personnel stop by to refresh our needs and add to our relaxation. The gardens were spectacular this spring - the poinciana tree, in full bloom, was a magnet for the dove and mockingbirds. Throughout, a multitude of bougainvillea provided a rush of pastels that accented every corner of this courtyard. The nearby ocean was warm and inviting, full of tropical colors as well. The pool is another excellent swimming opportunity. Although we typically visit several nearby restaurants, with the Cracked Conch a favorite at sunset, our very favorite spot continues to be our second floor patio and those late afternoon toasts to the day and delightful location for an early evening dinner. Fosters and Blackbeard are great providers for any kitchen needs.

Room Tip: Try a second floor unit, the extra steps are well worth the grand view from your upstairs patio. An...

Stayed with another couple and a single. Two of the bedrooms had King beds and the third had two twins. Full kitchen with plenty of cooking utensils. Foster's food store was a short walk so if you'd like to cook and don't have a car, bring some sacks to carry your purchases home. This is a very quiet location so if you're looking for hustle/bustle you won't find it here. There are two "buses" actually they are vans driving along the main road WB1 & WB2 - for $2 (Cayman Dollars) you can ride into Georgetown for some shopping. What is great is that they drop you off and pick you up anywhere along the route.
The room was clean and maid service very friendly. We did a great deal of cooking in the unit and had no issues with the stove, dishwasher or provided cooking utensils. Unit had a Blu-Ray DVD player and flat screen TV in the living room plus a TV in the room with twin beds.
Reservations were made online and worked out very well. Since there were three groups sharing the unit, we were able to split up the bill as we wished.

Room Tip: We were in Condo Unit 42 and all units in this building have a view of the beach from the back of th...

The grounds of the complex are beautiful. We walked the beach nearby and saw several nice beaches but no others had the beautiful grounds, landscaping, and flowers that SSC has. The beach is huge with soft white sand. This area is not crowded-- you'll have tons of space to yourself. There's a Foster's just a two minute drive up the road and Cemetery Beach is a two minute walk up the beach. You're just a few minutes drive (under 10 min) to all the restaurants in the middle of Seven Mile Beach. I had read somewhere that some of the units faced a "busy" road-- but it isn't your typical busy street, and there's a strip of parking spaces and tall shrubs between the units and the road, so don't worry about that. We were in unit 25. The condo was very well stocked. The kitchen had everything we could need, the beds were great, there were books, pool and beach toys, plenty of towels. The only bonus would be to have a washer/dryer in the unit but that's no biggie. They do have laundry facilities although I didn't end up using them. Really it all was just perfect and I wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend this condo!

Silver Sands is the PERFECT place to get away, relax deeply, and enjoy the gorgeous Caribbean at its best. My husband, uncle, and I just spent one week escaping the brutal cold and snow of the Northeast, and we could not have been happier with the location, accommodations, and absolute PEACE of Silver Sands. The property is meticulously maintained, the beach is exquisitely true to the Caribbean fantasy, the staff is helpful and visits the condos to help with cleaning and replenishing towels and the basic necessities. There is a grocery store about a 10-minute walk away from the condos. We ate out lunch only twice the whole week, opting to cook for ourselves in the well-equipped kitchen. We cannot say enough about SSC... and there is not one single thing that I could even offer to help make this place more enjoyable. The pool is crystal clean if that is your thing... we swam in the sea mostly, which offers an abundance of tropical fish to swim with just in front of the condos... a gorgeous reef and water temps that are heavenly ("refreshing" for about 30 seconds, then delightfully pleasant for the next hour or two of swimming!). It was hard to grasp the fact that it was February. We had much sun, a couple of sun showers, complete with a perfect rainbow, and so enjoyed the near constant warm breeze. Heaven, Heaven, Heaven on Earth. Yes, this may all sound hyperbolic... but no, it was our reality for one whole delicious week! Do not hesitate to take your next vacation RIGHT HERE. We were in Unit #33.... perfection. :)

Room Tip: We didn't use the fitness center and I don't know if there is a spa...? LOVED unit 33...gor...

We have been vacationing here for ten years and prefer Silver Sands over all others because of its quiet beauty and magnificent view. Have stayed in various units in the complex but just returned from a week in Unit 24 which is the BEST by far of any we have rented. It was recently remodeled and is quite nice! The owners have gone to great expense to update décor and furnishings. Management and residents are very friendly and helpful. The pool and gardens are maintained perfectly. The perfect place to relax and get away from the real world.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have balconies and provide the best view of the ocean. Choose first floor if yo...
