“Great Condo and Quiet Location!”
Reviewed June 29, 2011

We recently returned from our family vacation and we loved this resort! We stayed in Condo #44 and the views were amazing. The resort was a little over half full while we were there. The beach was wide and deep and we usually had it all to ourselves!! For short periods of times there was one or maybe two other families but there was plenty of room to spread out. The water was beautiful and there were very few, scattered, small rocks in a few places but the majority of it was beautiful white sand and clear water which is VERY important to us as we spend most of our time in the water! I believe that the condo resorts on either side of Plantana are privately owned and not rented, there was almost no one ever around at either resort. Just past the one resort is a public access point but there were very few people there as well. Straight out in the water from that public access point is a coral reef, probably about 100 yards from shore--great snorkeling! We all wore snorkel vests so we felt very comfortable swimming out there. The pool at the resort is small but again, there was usually no one in it! The pool was very clean and the water was very warm, probably 88 degrees which we loved. We had a few small issues with our condo-the freezer was not cold enough, a toilet overflowed...but the front office handled it professionally and quickly. The trees on the beach offered nice atmosphere as well as shade and there is a hammock to relax on as well. We were lucky enough to see a few green iguanas one day, one climbed up to the deck of our 3rd floor condo! No worries, he was very afraid of us, very cool to see up close though. We love a quiet, laid-back family vacation so this was the perfect place for us to stay! Just be aware that this is a condo rental and not a resort though...there is no restaurant or bar on-sight to have cocktails on the beach, no one to carry your luggage up to your room(no elevators, just stairs to the 3rd floor) and no security on-sight overnight. There was a security officer sitting on the beach during the day on the weekend when the office was closed though. We felt safe staying at the resort, just use common sense as you would any where. We would highly recommend staying at Plantana!

Room Tip: We rented through the Plantana web site

We stayed in a 2 bedroom condo with an ocean view; there were 3 of us. The condo unit had 2 bedrooms (1 with king size bed and 1 with a double and a twin.) The kitchen was modern and very well appointed. The beach view from the living room and screened in porch was a great way to wake up in the morning and the porch was lovely for meals. The unit had 2 full bathrooms and a washer/dryer. The beach was pristine, not crowded, and one didn't need to get up at 7 am to reserve a chair at the beach or pool as often happens at large resorts. There were umbrellas and a hammock for shady naps as well. Seven mile beach is great for beach walks in either direction from the condo. If you want to see some of the other sights on the island, it is best to have a car. You can walk to a grocery store, although it isn't far, going on foot limits what one might buy. We took one drive to the East End of Grand Cayman, went to the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, saw blue iguanas, drove along the beach to see Blow Holes, and had a sunset dinner at a restaurant called "Over the Edge." On another night, we drove to the West End (Barkers beach area) for a quiet walk (park closes at 6:30 pm and then had dinner at Pappagallos. Downtown Georgetown is fairly touristy, but was worth seeing one late afternoon for a short period of time. We also had a great dinner at the Sunshine Grill.
We had a late check-in because of a delayed flight and it was no problem for the staff to get us our keys. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Plantana is simply fantastic! My wife an I have been there numerous times and have never been disappointed. Plantana is situated on the best portion of Seven Mile Beach; not too far from the action, but not right next door to the big overcrowded resorts. The result? The ultimate spot for relaxation with all of the conveniences and luxuries that Grand Cayman has to offer.

Plantana is a truly exceptional property. Beautiful landscaping, well-kept units and low density create the perfect getaway. We can't wait to get back there soon!

This was our second vacation to Grand Cayman we were there from April 15th - 22nd. We stayed at Villas of the Galleon last year and Plantana Condos this year. Plantana is hands down the best deal on Seven Mile Beach! Best location with access to a literally empty beach, there were never more than 4 other couples on the beach with us. Traveler's Tip: Bring some ocean/pool floaties (Amazon has them) and Red Sail Sports in front of the Westin will inflate them for free if you book a snorkel trip. The ocean is too beautiful not to float all day! Plantana has a great pool for the kids and some Weber charcoal BBQ grils- We picked up a couple of Ribeyes, a bottle of Cab and some zucchini and had an awesome oceanfront BBQ, dining on the beach! You cannot go wrong with Plantana or it's location. The ladies at the management office are the best!
Check out the turtle farm on Sunday afternoon- no tourists! Botanical gardens are nice with the blue iguanas. We liked Chicken Chicken for a quick pick up to go lunch/dinner. Orantique was nice...You MUST eat at KARMA next to Chicken Chicken ! The sushi and fish were awesome! The manager Morris is a great guy! Rent your car from Andys!!!

Room Tip: #37 1 bd condo- has extra security on the windows!

We spent spring break in unit 18 with our 2 teens. We stayed down the beach at Avalon last year but they were full this year, and their beach reflected that. We liked the unit at the Avalon better, roomier & more luxurious, but the beach at Plantana was not as crowded and had better shade options. My only complaint was that the bbq grils burned charcoal, a gas grill is much nicer for vacation. We eat in to economise and having 2 grocery stores nearby is really great. The screen porch was great for dining & relaxing. Because of the sandy bottom the beach is wonderful to swim but not heavy on marine life but our teens spent 2 days dredging up cinder blocks and rocks and built an artificile reef about 50 ft out from the property line with "Great House" property, Check it out...after 2 days they had squirrel fish, parrotfish, a lg trunkfish, a school of small grunts, 2 octopi and squid. We dove with Patrick & Rick of Deep Blue Divers fun, very professional and no more than 6/trip.

We stayed in garden unit #33 with my husband and 2 sons. It was very comfortable and everything we needed was in condo. We had friends staying in one bedroom and their condo was very nice also. We had a great time snorkeling just off the beach in front of governors beach. We saw loads of fish, one stingray and a sea turtle. We thought the pool was very nice also but it's too bad that no bathroom is near pool area. We had to run up to condo each time so a little annoying. Also, a little music around the pool would have been nice otherwise a great resort. Next time I would bring music for pool or beach area. We walked down to Westin to listen to music on the beach.
