Sunshine Suites Resort

This was our 4th stay at the Sunshine Suites. The staff is amazing. The grill is amazing. The rooms are great. It's not on the beach, but you get chairs and towels to take across the street to one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Save your money for Cayman's dining and stay here instead of the Ritz, Marriot, or Comfort Suites. You won't be disappointed.

Beautiful hotel, great staff, fantastic restaurant, best location. Directly across the street from the Westin at a considerably lower cost. The only hotel I could find on Seven Mile Beach (the best beach on the island) with two queen beds. Having a full kitchen allowed us to save on breakfast and lunch costs. Close to all the water sport action and all the shopping/restaurants. A short bus/taxi ride to Georgetown. If you don't care to eat in, the hotel restaurant (Sunshine Grill) has the best fish tacos and burgers on the island.

I was down in Cayman for a conference, and stayed 11 days. I felt the resort offered everything that one would require for a visit centered on business or an extremely busy extended stay. The kitchen was fully stocked with utensils, dishes, and pots and pans, and the room in general was a no-fuss retreat. If you are in Cayman for leisure alone, and expect to spend your days lounging poolside or on the beach, then perhaps you should upgrade to one of the obnoxious resorts across the street. However, if you are in Cayman for purpose, especially diving, then I feel Sunshine is great. The staff was welcoming, WiFi was free, and if you do plan to spend a few days on the beach they provide chairs to take along.

Even though this was a business trip, the price that my company was charged for this room was FAR BELOW any other decent hotel on 7 mile beach. The price is what absolutely sells this hotel. That and the cleanliness. While I agree with other reviewers that this place referring to itself as a "resort" is a bit of a stretch...it is definitely a solid, clean hotel.

The pool-bar/restaurant has two EXCELLENT items on the menu for lunch and dinner. Their burgers have actually been votes "best on the island", and the fish tacos taste just like they would down in Baja California (so give 'em a try). As for breakfast, they provide a rather varied "continental" style for free.

Free wifi plus not having to travel in and out of town to get meals is a HUGE PLUS for a business traveler. Each time here I have had a problem-free stay and have also found the staff, while not to be completely bending over backwards for you like in some 5-star resorts, very gracious in response to any request...especially at the bar/restaurant.

If on business, or staying for pleasure less than 4-5 days, i would HIGHLY recommend this hotel if you are looking to save some money. You will still get the FULL Cayman Island experience, which pretty much revolves around the beach. All beach in Grand Cayman is public and it is no different for the Sunshine Suites. Simply walk across the road (this is the islands....SO CARS DO STOP FOR YOUR!!) and you are now prive to great snorkeling and a fabulous sunset.

This would be my 3rd trip back to Sunshine Suites, so to say that I like this place is an understatement. Sunshine Suites is a hidden gem, along the many many hotels/condos and resorts on Seven Mile Beach. The rooms are always, clean, neat and accomondating. The king size bed with the memory foam pillow top mattresses are sooooo comfortable its hard to get up in the morning. But its vacation so who cares ;-)
The staff are always pleasant and courtesy and most helpful in booking tours, trips to stingray city or any other items you may need or want. The on-site restaurant has a delicious complimentary breakfast as well as a omelet station which is cooked perfectly to your order. The restaurant has a variety of menu items for lunch and dinner and there has been nothing I have tried that wasn't satisfying and delicious.
I recommend anyone to stay here, we usually book the one bedroom suite which has a kitchen if you want to cook-in from time to time.
The pool is nice, a bit small but very clean and well kept grounds. The only thing that is missing from the resort is a hot tub, but I do without especially if I only have to walk across the street to the beautiful beaches. I can't wait to go back.

We recently visited Grand Cayman on a scuba dive certification trip. The dive center we travelled with did most of the planning, including organizing our stay at Sunshine Suites. We actually stayed at the Sunshine Suites for the first part of our trip and then moved to the Ritz Carlton for the second half. Sunshine Suites is a lovely place and although the Ritz Carlton is in a whole other league, to be fair, my review is not a comparison of the two.
So What's Good?:
- The staff was very friendly and welcoming, both upon check-in and also at the onsite restaurant.
- The grounds were very well manicured and there is a nice moderate sized pool onsite.
- The price was reasonable, especially considering the generally higher prices on Grand Cayman.
- The Sunshine Grill was a great restaurant in its own right - we ate here several times and many people come from other parts of the island to eat there as well (try the fish tacos).
What was Just "OK" (since there wasn't really anything "bad"):
- The location of the Sunshine Suites is ok. I say "ok" and not great because it is not beachfront...it is actually across the street (and a busy street, at that). While this may be an issue for some, we were primarily getting in vans and driving to the boat launch or dive sites, so it was fine. Had we chosen to stay here for a relaxing beach vacation it would have been a little inconvenient and annoying.
- The room was technically a "suite" due to the small kitchenette area, and while it had everything we needed, I wouldn't say it was large or roomy by any means. Space issues became especially apparently when we had two sets of scuba gear laid out.
- There is no real lobby or central area; the rooms are motel style and open directly to the outside.
In conclusion, Sunshine Suites is a clean, friendly and comfortable place to stay, especially if you are in Grand Cayman for diving. While I can't recommend it for those looking for a beach resort type vacation, it has its charms and positive features.

I've been to scuba-diving hotels all over the Caribbean, but this one's really something special. Partly it's location - it's directly next to shopping, good restaurants, and that rarest of beaches - pristine white sand, yet with reefs for snorkeling. We saw an enormous lobster, a nurse shark, and a huge stingray within fifteen minutes of hitting the water. (Note to newbies: Nurse sharks are not dangerous or aggressive.)

However, what really makes it is the great staff and the beautiful landscaping. There's a pool area with an attached restaurant that serves terrific entrees and you can get your dinner without once going inside! Prices were very reasonable and the food was fantastic.
Also, don't miss the sushi restaurant in the strip mall next to the hotel. Seriously - it's just about the best fish I've eaten.

The rooms are HUGE. The beds very comfortable. I understand the first floor was recently renovated so all of the appointments are brand new.

The one drawback is that first floor rooms don't have balconies or anywhere outside you can hang wet scuba gear, but they do have dunk tanks and gear lockers within an easy walk of the main building. Also, there are hammocks strung out front and gorgeous shrubs from which you can admire the resident curly-tailed iguanas.

Also - FREE WIFI. You just don't find that in the Caribbean, and mostly you don't even find it in the continental U.S. (I'm not sure they're advertising it yet - I noticed their website mentioned you had to pay for wi-fi but we did not and were told by staff it was free.)

The price was terrific. The staffers are all very friendly and easygoing. I'd go back here like a shot and hope to, very soon!!
