“Great stay at 7 miles beach”
Reviewed March 8, 2009

We booked to spend one week the kids had school off, and travelled there from Milan via Miami. The hotel is very nice and esotic (to us at least), located on seven miles beach (which is the main beach of Grand Cayman island) tortoises and iguanas roaming free in the paths trough the garden leading to the beach. beach is nice, a bit small but still enjoyable. Food was ok, even though menu were not huge and wine selection adequate at best.
Three restaurants, one close to the seaside, which is the main one, based on international and caribbean cuisine, local fish (mai mai) but mostly based on meat; one for breakfast only; one only serving hamburgers, hot dogs etc which was sold out duting superbowl nite. In essence, after 3 or 4 days we were starting to be tired. Good for us, to change the routine, 3 "eat as you can" nights were offred, which were very convenient (one lobster and seafood night, one sushi, the third I cannot remember).
great bar on the beach serving very good cocktails
rooms were nice, great view and very clean.
water sports equipment can be borrowed at the sports desk
Security discretely monitoring the safety of the place.

We stayed at the Marriott Beach Resort in Grand Cayman for a week, paying a little over $400/night. The room was very nice, clean, and most of the staff was friendly. However, on our last night, we encountered a problem that we felt was handled poorly on the part of the front desk and managerial staff. Our room was oceanfront and there was a wedding party held at the hotel's pool/beach area. While we wish the newlyweds every happiness and understand their right to celebrate, the speakers were pointed directly at the hotel, instead of toward the ocean, and the music was extremely loud in our room. We could hear every note, with the door closed and the television on. When we respectfully asked the front desk if the music could be turned down a bit, they told us that the people had paid for a wedding party and they could play their music as loud as they wanted. When we pointed out that we, too, had paid for something - namely, a quiet room, we were told that the party would be over in an hour, and basically to just "deal with it".
We felt like we deserved consideration, in light of the fact that we, too, were paying guests. Never have I heard of a hotel putting the "rights" of 1 guest over the rights of many! While the majority of our stay was pleasant, this one incident overshadows the previous nights, leaving a sour taste regarding this hotel.

We spent five days in March at the Marriott and loved it. The hotel and rooms were clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast buffet was fresh and varied, and the property is in a great location. We have been to many hotels in the Caribbean and Hawaii and found this Marriott to live up to what we expected for the location and price. The guest rooms are spacious. The new beds are one of the most comfortable hotel beds we have ever used. Our waitstaff spent time chatting with us and making us feel welcomed. Our housekeeper personally thanked us for leaving tips for her. The poolside staff educated us on the resident parrots, spending quite some time answering our questions. The courtyard is a lovely place to sit and read, with comfortable chairs and the turtle pond and lots of iguanas. The Solana restaurant for dinner was pricey but the food was excellent. The hotel is located within short walking distance of several restaurants and activities and is close to Georgetown for shopping. The night sky was incredible! I have read some other reviews and do not share in the negative comments about this hotel. We had a great experience, however we have often found that treating hotel staff with courtesy and respect gets the same in return.

Been to every Carib Island on multiple cruises, Cayman one of the best. Decided to hotel on the island for a change. Marriott is in a great location, hotel physically pleasant. Wait staff attentive. However the front desk was absolutely a disaster. Very unhelpful, almost rude. A bait and switch on the room (courtyard vs ocean view vs ocean front), then tried to overcharge by nearly $100 per day over the confirmed rate. Took them forever to correct and just fortuitous I noticed the overcharge. And, the front desk refused to honor advertised food and beverage credit. Bottom line, if you are able and willing to spend the money, go down the street to the Westin or Beach Suites (formerly Hyatt). You are spending a bunch of money in Cayman anyway, might as well have a competent hotel staff to make everything as expected.

Stayed at the Grand Cayman Marriott in March of 2008, and while the property was nice we had a lot of problems with our rooms, yes I said rooms we had to change. There was mold on the ceiling and the walls in the bathroom of one room, and the carpet was worn in both rooms, which isn't expected when you travel a thousand miles to stay at a Marriott. Although the beach was beautiful, it was small and very crowded so get their early. Breakfast was of Marriott quality, as was the lobby and the beautiful courtyard which was chock full of iguanas and turtles. Once this hotel is renovated, this will be one of the best hotes on the island, but for now it might be wise to stay elsewhere.

My children and I ( 11 and 13 yo) have travelled throughout the Caribbean for 7 consecutive years on February School vacation in New Hamphire (USA). I consider myself well versed on food, service and the quality of our stay. We all are certified divers and must say the trip for diving was great. We dove with Ambassador Divers who were small, accomodating and fantastic to do diving with. Clearly that was the best part of our trip. The Marriott is a nice property, small, clean and updated basic rooms. We had a small water view from the side of the facility. Maid service was excellent, plenty of cable channels and new 27 inch tvs in all rooms. Limite space for clothes in the draws but a big closet and a room refridgerator. WIFI worked great even at the beach, but disappointed it was $12/ day on top of the cost of just being there.

The hotel staff varied throughout from Omar at the front door who couldnt do enough for us, to the front desk; who were the most impersonal staffers I have ever encountered on a vacation. Service at the beach was dependent upon who your server was. The workers here as all places in G Cayman are young people on work visas from all over the world. Lee from England was the top dog at the beach. The rest of the beach/bar staff ran well behind his pace.

Solana is a great retaurant but high priced. We ate their one night and had a wonderful experience. The beach bar had a basic menu of salads, club sandwiches, bugers and chicken fingers. Good stuff, but the menu needs a serious expansion. We went to the Westin Friday for lunch and had a wonderful fish lunch.

Overall the Marriott was average, but not terrible by any means. We thought the food and overall service could be better. The Parrott breakfast buffet was good each day, but again a limited selection, as compared to our many other Carribean trips.

We would definitely go back, from our experience and hearing some feedback on other hotels. The Marriott was a great choice. The service was wonderful and it was fun to guess where everyone was from originally. The hotel beautiful complete with a courtyard to hang out in the palm trees and relax. The rooms had comfy beds it was hard to get up except you know you are in paradise and want to get to the beach. We got a package that included breakfast - that was definitely worth it because otherwise it could be a little expensive. The lunches are big enough to share so that is a way to be economical if you eat at the outside bar. Some construction next door but you don't notice if at the beach and noise is gone by time you are back in the evening. Overall, this hotel is a great option for travelers.
