“Better Options on Seven Mile Beach”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

I wanted to use Marriott reward points on Grand Cayman and booked this hotel mainly because of some positive reviews and the fact that Ritz required more points. BIG MISTAKE! First I expected to get a room upgrade due to my platinum status and was told by the desk manager upon check-in that it was unavailable but they would do everything possible to accomodate me. Well, that never happened. If I had known that was going to be the case I would have paid the $100-150/nite to upgrade. Secondly, the room was not up to the standards I've come to expect from Marriott. Needed to be updated and had a peculiar (not good) odor about it the entire stay. Also, my beach time was interrupted by a wedding on two occasions and was asked to move to make room for the party. The staff was rude on one occasion. In addtion, the beach if front of the hotel is very narrow and when the lounge chairs are laid out the beach is almost non-existent. If you want to use Marriott points or not, I would recommend the Ritz. It's on a nice part of the beach and it's a beautiful property. Needless to say I was very disappointed in the Grand Cayman Marriott. Almost any other property on Seven Mile Beach would be a better option in my opinion.

Room Tip: Ocean front only!

This was are first experience with Grand Cayman for activities, relaxing and scuba diving.

All the services both in the hotel and on the island for us was very good.

This is a pricey vacation but is worth it, nothing cheap on this island especially for America's.

We had great weather and beautiful sunsets everyday!!!

The must activity is swimming with and feeding the "Sting Rays" on a good weather day. "The key is not to go on a boat with to many people". Our group was 50 to 60 and where done before the masses from the cruise ships got there. Amen!

Room Tip: Room #330 faced the beach and was over the pool. If you like taking pictures has a small baloney.

We are a couple in our sixties and both wanted a very special beach vacation. We both visted tanning salons before going so that we would not get burned and we'd be able to enjoy the sun ... a decision I am VERY glad that we made. This Marriott is excellent! The food choices were outstanding as were our experiences at the bars. The location on 7-mile beach is ideal in my opinion. Some other writers commented that the rocks were "too close to shore" but they mis-described what they saw. The "rocks" are actually an artificial reef system that offers a wonderfully protective environment as well as home to some of the largest schools of fish that I have ever seen in waste-deep water. It was a thrill that i could see many families really enjoying. Snorkle and fins are available for free checkout for your stay. Also, complimentary beach towels and fresh terrycloth lounge chair covers are offered. We enjoyed wonderful walks each day and eventually visited a few local high-end restaurants which we enjoyed. The exchange rate is US dollar is worth only 80 cents is local currency ... so be prepared to spend a lot if you go "high end" but we saw and heard of several very good but less expensive choices very close to the hotel ... we walked everywhere. The hotel faces west ... so sunsets are often quite impressive. If you want to see a beautiful full moon-rise then visit the bay area just east of the hotel (a pleasant on-mile walk on very safe divided and tree lined (well lit) roads. Every member (everyone!) at this hotel smiled and greeted us cheerfully and met our needs in a way that made us feel very special. I am a Premere Elete Marriott member and this is the best hotel expeience of my life.

Room Tip: We enjoyed and would recommend a "courtyard" first floor room. You'll experience quiet...

The Marriott Grand Cayman Resort is a wonderful place to stay if you want to be located within walking distance to a lot of excellent restaurants, bars, shopping and night life. We walked almost everywhere! The hotel is on an excellent sand beach and just down the strand is a restaurant where you can eat on a pier overlooking the sea and the fish come up and beg for morsels to be thrown over by the patrons. Lots of good shops. Don't forget to take the tour to the turtle farm and go out and swim with the sting rays. An unforgetable experience!!!

Room Tip: A room on a top floor facing the west gives good view of the sunset.

Hotel is older and not as fancy as many hotels in the chain around the Caribbean. Cayman is laid back British West Indies. Some people clearly didn't research the hotel and were disappointed not to have spacious suites and Concierge level. My children and I witnessed some disgruntled guests being horrid to the staff who remained at all times courteous and professional. I can't even repeat what one obnoxious woman said getting into the cab but if you're reading this ..you actually frightened my pre-teens !
The food was very good at all restaurants, a little pricey so if you can get a package that includes resort credits it is worthwhile. There are plenty of reasonably priced breakfast restaurants in the area and they also have pastries and fruit you can purchase in the lobby every morning. The staff were probably the best I have come across in my years of travelling, both professionally and with my family. They bent over backwards to ensure you had everything you needed and everyone was just so friendly, each of the housekeeping staff stopped to say good mornin' are you enjoying your holiday? The waitstaff remembered your names. Catherine, in the Kids Club was wonderful, enthusiastic, fun and encouraging, our girls just loved spending time with her, the program was fun and educational. Family Jeopardy night was a blast and we only did it because Catherine cajoled us into it. The inner courtyard was so peaceful and the hanging hammocks and piped Spa music was a nice relief from the sun by the pool and beach. This section of the beach is much smaller than further down but the man-made reef 50 yards off-shore is full of fish so great easy place to snorkle. The hotel is not a large resort, it felt intimate, my kids had a sense of independence but I could see them at all times. I highly recommend it for families with K-6 graders. Not sure there is much for the teenagers but certainly the younger children had a lot to entertain them including the resident Parrots and Turtles. I would suggest upgrading the beds, didn't find them as comfortable as they could have been and I would also suggest that the music at the beach bar doesn't have to be quite so loud early morning, maybe you could ramp that up slowly.

Room Tip: 5th floor ocean view pretty quiet and you can sit on your balcony and enjoy the music from the bar b...

This hotel is in need of some renovations and had everything else not been so wonderful I probably would have only given an "average" rating. With that said; I can't say enough about the staff and the service. Everyone (yes every single person) was so helpful, professional and truly nice. The beach is a little small but who cares when you can snorkel a few feet out and see so many beautiful fish. Things are expensive but that was every where on the island not just this hotel. We were only traveling as a couple but the family activities looked great too.

We travel extensively and have stayed in more than 20 Marriott hotels in the past year, some good some maybe just OK. The Marriott on Grand Cayman has the best service that we have ever experienced anywhere. The staff is professional, knowledgible, attentive and friendly. The front desk staff, restaurant staff, even the gardener would stop and say hello whenever you walked by. And no matter what you asked for, the answer was "no problem". The hotel is very nice and the rooms are comfortible and clean. The interior garden has soft comforting music playing rather than the loud annoying music at , for instance, the Aruba Marriott. The hotel is a great place for an adult couple to have a relaxing, worry free vacation. The only downside is that although the hotel is on 7 mile beach, it is at the point where the beach is very narrow and there are times when you feel crowded.

Room Tip: We definitely enjoyed the interior room overlooking the courtyard although others may want ocean fro...
