“Superb B & B”
Reviewed October 21, 2007

I found Byrdir online simply by chance and what a lucky find it was. Once I had actually read the directions given, properly, the farmhouse is very easy to find, and is actually signposted too. The setting is beautiful, and if you are lucky you can see down to the sea, but the Welsh weather can intervene.

I stayed in the smallest of the studio cottages which are actually converted stables. The studio was lovely with some exposed stone and timbers. There was a gas fireplace, colour TV, comfy sofa and a small kitchenette with microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle. It was all clean and tidy and very comfortable. The bathroom was small, but certainly not cramped and again was clean and tidy. To get to the bed you have to climb a ladder to the mezzanine level which is fun, and as other people have said, the beds are very comfortable. Outside the studios there is a terrace with superb views, though in October I didn't spend much time out there.

Saving the best until last, the breakfast was excellent. You can start with yoghurts, cereal, fresh fruit and even croissants on some days and then you get a great cooked breakfast, with a thick slice of back bacon, fried egg and fried bread (which was the best) plus a very hot side dish with delicious sauted potatoes, sausage and beans. On top of that you get a pile of tasty thick cut toast, tea or coffee and orange juice. I climbed Snowdon on that breakfast and wasn't hungry when I got to the top.

I had a great time staying at Byrdir, the hosts Gwion and Louise are very friendly and I will certainly be returning.

Lovely farmhouse b&b just over a mile up a windy country lane from Dyffryn Ardudwy.
Stayed with a group of people so got to see several of the rooms, and they were all lovely. Nice, clean, large, bright rooms with a telly and tea-making facilities - and even some complimentary sherry! (We didn't indulge tho). Some rooms over in the cottages also have a microwave and fridge.
The rooms also have large comfy beds and a really nice farmhouse feel about them. En suite bathroom was on the small side, but not claustrophic at all.
The hosts, a young couple - Louise and Gwion - were extremely helpful and friendly and provided an excellent breakfast. A range of yoghurts, fruit and cereal as well as a light cooked breakfast of top quality bacon, fried bread and egg. A veggie option is also available, and each morning you also got a bowl of sauteed potatoes on top of sausages or other breakfast food. Not forgetting a cafetiere of coffee (or tea) and doorstep toast.
What a superb stay - we will be back...

We stayed at byrdir for a short break over easter but went back for a longer break in August. What a wonderfull place. We stayed in the converted stable just next to the main farmhouse. A great little studio ideal for us and our walking gear.

Wonderfull breakfast, exellent views and best of all, what nice people. I dont usually fill in this type of thing, but I really wanted to recomend this place as highly as possible.

Stayed 6 nights at this b&b, tucked on the edge of Snowdonia overlooking the sea. You drive up a narrow lane for approx 1 mile; when you see the Byrdir signpost, open the gate and drive through the field (don't forget to close the gate behind you as it's a working sheep & cattle farm). My room (in the "main" building) was quite large for a single, and although it had a shower and washbasin, the toilet (sole use) was down a corridor. This however presented no problems. As well as rooms in the "main" building, there are also some "studios" in a converted barn which all have ensuite facilities, fridge & microwave oven. Breakfast very good - a plate was brought to you with bacon, egg and fried bread, then a small earthenware dish that had (at least) potatoes in it, plus (and this changed everyday) sausage, black pudding, tomato etc. All the food was served piping hot.
Best point about this b&b is that the owners do various packages depending on which (or how many nights) you stay - I paid £130 for 6 nights, which equals £22.67 per night. This b&b is in a very quiet location, the most noise you are likely to hear coming from the sheep and cattle.
