Hard tore o believe that several miles out to sea you can leave your boat and stand in water that is only 4 feet deep. Even more unbelievable is the face that these huge creatures will swim right up to you and allow you to hold them in your arms then swim away and brush up against you as if saying goodbye. This is a mush do adventure when visiting the Caymans.

There is a reason this is the #1 attraction in Cayman. Its a must see. We chose an excursion off the ship, but have been told you can get a somewhat better deal if you are willing to wait to book once you've debarked and left the port area. I'm not sure how much you could save doing that, but I was happy with the arrangement we made through the ship with MarineLand tours.

Once you are at the sandbar there are literally dozens of stingrays all around you. Our guides briefed us on safety, then wrangled a few stingrays for everyone to pet. Soon enough, you are holding the giant rays yourself, and we had plenty of opportunities to feed and hold them. Some of these rays are so big its hard to imagine.

The sand bar was shallow enough so that my 6 year old had no issues navigating around, around 3 feet deep on average. Some people were initially tentative with the numbers and size of the rays, but as you acclimate to the surroundings, you'll get comfortable with it. We spent just under an hour on the sandbar, which was plenty for me.

The day we went it was pretty overcast and a bit windy, so it was a bit chilly for the kids even in July. Make sure to bring a good beach towel to wrap up in for the return trip.

This was one of the highlights of our trip. We selected Captain Marvin to take us out there and were very pleased with them.

Seeing so many stingrays in 1 area is really mind blowing and a once in a lifetime opportunity. Make sure you bring an underwater camera.

There are 2 things preventing me from giving this 5 stars. First, we went out on a day where the sea was a little bit rough which made it a little harder to enjoy and our daughter (13) was a little freaked out by seeing so many stingrays. Just stick with it and your comfort level with be better after a couple of minutes.

To maximize your enjoyment, I'd recommend sticking with the smaller boars (like Captain Marvins). We saw a boat with a lot more people on it then ours and that would really inhibit your ability to spend the time you need to in the water.

This is something that should be on everyone's bucket list. It was wonderful. Stingrays are very gentle creatures. Their skin feels like velvet. If we ever get to The Cayman Islands again, this will be the first thing I do.
