“Nice snorkeling”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

You can snorkel for free at the Eden Rock Dive Centre. It’s just past the Palace restaurant and within easy walking distance from the cruise terminal. We went there on a Saturday when there were no cruise ships in port. We have our own equipment, but I think they might rent snorkeling stuff there as well.

Once you’re ready to go in, the staff will explain where to go, etc. Very helpful and very friendly – just leave them a tip when you get out. Snorkeling here was different than anywhere else we’d been on the island. Big outcrops of coral. Saw lots of neat stuff – but no turtles, sharks, etc that others have reported seeing. My wife did see a tarpon though. Water was getting a little choppy however, so after 30-45 minutes we came back in. Just as we were climbing out a big rainstorm hit. After that it was not safe to go in at all as wind also picked up considerably.

If we go back to Grand Cayman, I would definitely go back here.

“Easy, low cost and enjoyable DIY cruise ship shore excursion!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

Just tendered to shore, walked to the right on South Church Street about five minutes to Eden Rock Dive shop to check out the water and reef conditions, walked back to Paradise Bar and Grill, rented a lounge chair ($5 each) on their very uncrowded sandy beach area, and a locker ($5), donned our own snorkel gear (rental snorkel gear is available from Paradise, too) and walked down the steps into the water. We saw lots of 4-5 ft tarpon right at the steps, as they were being fed by a restaurant worker, and a 2 ft turtle on our way out to the reef. Loved the large coral heads, swim throughs and visibility! The inflatable trampoline out in the water has lost its ladder and cover, so is not so good for a rest break, and the view of the cruise ships in the harbor detracts from its beauty, but overall the Devil's Grotto/Eden Rock reef area is highly recommended for a shore snorkel adventure!

“Great shore dive - reasonable prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2013

Much larger dive sight than you might expect coming off the shore. Easy entry down a ladder, snorkel out to buoy then descend for a nice dive 35-50 feet. Lots of growth, variety, tarpon and large schools fish. Good swim thrus, go at your own pace. Most of the Caymans are very expensive so this dive helps offsets the other high costs.

“Snorkeling”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2013

Easy to get in and out - great fish! Ocean was bit rough but fine here with good clarity. You can rent gear if you don't have. Great pace to eat nearby

“Great Shore Dive and Snorkle Adventure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

Close to downtown, usually pretty calm, well equipped dive/snorkel shop with reasonable prices (Eden Rock)

The diving is shallow, with abundant Cayman sea life and beautiful swim through passages between coral heads.

My only complaint is that the last two visits the single washroom at Eden Rock was pretty rough.... OK filthy!

one of the best/most accessible shore dives on Grand Cayman
