“Captain Frank...the "Stingray Whisperer"”

Frank's Watersports
Ranked #109 of 201 Tours in Grand Cayman

Captain Frank and first mate are not setting sail with the latest fiberglass state of the art monster boat crammed with tourists. This is a well worn boat that has seen many excersions, but is the type of boat that the everyday seaman captains. The advantage to traveling with Captain Frank is that he is the real deal. This is the excersion you want to take your family on...not the "plastic" variety. From start to finish it was a personal experience. Like other reviewers have said, the "monster boat" people leave their area to come over to Captain Frank. With the trip, snacks and beverages ( only stingray tour that I know of serving rum punch-included) it is half the price of other tours and is an authentic Cayman experience.

Frank's tour of Stingray city and other snorkeling sites was outstanding! Our tour had a total of 8 people taking us to 4 separate spots, including Stingray City. While we saw other tours with people packed in like sardines, we were able to relax on a spacious boat operated by a couple of experienced seamen (Frank and his first mate). The snorkeling sites were among the best I've ever witnessed. The water is so crystal clear you can see underwater for probably over 100 feet in spots. We did the day tour which included a lunch of lobster, fish, jerk chicken, and conch. The lunch itself was worth the price of admission.

If you prefer to be on brand spanking new boat, with tour guides chronicling every move, free WIFI and do your Stingray city tour packed to the gills with other tourists crammed into the water for 15-20 minutes, then Frank's tour isn't for you. But if you want a relaxing day to enjoy the blue-green waters of the Caribbean, I can't imagine a better tour than Frank's.

We did this as private shore excursion while on a cruise. We met our contact at the port and we went to the dock and met Captain Frank and his first mate.

There were only 11 of us (9 adults and 2 kids) on the boat. This had to be the smallest group at Stingray city. The first mate jumped off the boat with us and made sure we all got to hold and feed a ray. Some of the mega-group boats did not have a guide to do this and they actually started honing in on ours. If you want to make sure you get to interact with the rays, don't go with these big tours! Stingray city is very busy and populated. This has nothing to do with this tour provider, but you should know before you go. It's not a serious snorkel/ swimming site.

We had a snorkel at a second stop and free drinks and chips on the way back into the dock.

My only complaint was that some of the snorkel gear is getting a little older and I had a problem with leaks in my mask. If you are particular and have your own, you might want to bring it, but if not theirs will do just fine.

They got us back to port with several hours to spare before our ship left. Their price was amazing and you got personal service. There's no reason to go with those big boat tours when you could go with Frank.

Just returned from a fabulous private charter with Frank. Went for a combination of reef fishing, Sting Ray city and snorkeling. Because the sea was rough, other charters wanted to reroute our trip. Frank said he would do his best and his best was fabulous. He took out a simple, larger vessel and we were just fine in rougher waters. There was only one other private vessel at String Ray City this day. It was our first experience with ocean reef fishing and we caught enough for dinner for 5 - the highlight of our trip. Prior to this trip we spent much time fishing from docks on the island and caught nothing. The first mate was somewhat difficult to understand but a highly experienced seaman who helped stabilize the boat in choppy reef waters by getting out into the waters to secure the anchor. Thought the rum punch was excellent - tasted mostly of rum. Spent far more than 4 hours with us. Would certainly book again with Frank, especially for fishing.

Wrote to Frank's 4 weeks before my vacation to inquire about a combination fishing and snorkel trip. No answer. Called 2 weeks before my trip and left a message....no answer. Based on their prices and website, I wrote to them again and requested to book a trip (while I was then in the Caymans....). No answer. These folks are either out of business or just don't care. In any event....stay clear of those that fail at customer service even before they have a chance to ruin your tour....
