This bar is covered in personalised pieces of drift wood from visitors. It is a family run business and the bar / restaurant is a great place to hang out for a break from the sun. Drinks especially the pain killers have a good shot of alcohol unlike the bar at Cow Wreck that we visited. Staff are very friendly and there are also a few rooms for rent, gift shop etc.
Crazy Ritchie is the resident entertainer who burns your names into driftwood either to take home or pin up in the bar he also juggles for a few dollars / beers. He is part of the fixtures and fittings and a great character while he visits from October to May

It probably helps to put in your order ahead of time then spend some time on the beach, but our crew was pleased sitting at our table having drinks and watching a local spin fire. Our conch stew was basically just the meat in a tomato sauce with some potatoes and cabbage on the sides to mix in how you like. If you are new to conch meat it's not recommended for this to be your first experience with it, unless you adore scallops and tomato sauces. The conch fritters however were delicious and the table next to us seemed highly pleased with their spiny lobster.

The Big Bamboo sucked--at many levels--first, we were driven around many miles on "rough" roads in a 7-person van, into which 14 of us were "comfortably" seated. Springs in vehicle non-existent. We were not delivered to the restaurant we'd had big, freshly grilled over open flames the last time we visited the island--bah humbug! Secondly, The price for these over-cooked lobster, which were just a little bit bigger than a gulf shrimp, was outrageous and they tried to charged a double gratuity, that wasn't very nice. Service, so-so. Glad to get outta there! Won't be back.

Our three week Virgin Island vacation started with 5 days in Anegada. We wanted to unwind and relax before the second phase which was the active adventuresome part; chartering a bareboat for 8 days ending with another relaxing segment in St. John.

We had heard that Loblolly Beach was the best beach on Anegada. When we arrived at Loblolly, we serendipitiously discovered 4 brand new oceanfront cottages that were recent additions to the Big Bamboo Restaurant and Beach bar. We checked out of the hotel where we spent the first night and immediately moved to the Big Bamboo. The cottages had a full kitchen; but, who wants to cook on vacation? We were steps away from the Big Bamboo Restaurant which offered breakfast, lunch and dinner. Anegada is known for their lobsters and the Big Bamboo had the big ones along with some of our island favorites, Conch, Fresh Fish and drinks with more rum than Coke. Actually, the kitchen came in handy to warm leftovers from the huge dinners they served. The beds were pillowtop comfortable and the air conditioning worked perfectly. I mention the air conditioning because this was our third trip to the British Virgin Islands and we've stayed in several different places that had ac problems. It seems the salt air gets to them. If you're staying on Anegada, the Big Bamboo is the best place for Food, Snorkeling, and Oceanfront accomodations.

You really have to enjoy the Big Bamboo for the location, drinks, staff, and really good food.
Right on the beach, you order what you want to eat and give them a good hour or so to get it on the table and go get some world class snorkeling. They make a decent Painkiller at the bar along with the normal host of island libations and concoctions. The people that mix the drinks and bring the food could not have been nicer. And the food. Gotta have the Conch Fritters and a Lobster; both worth it.
