we stayed at BEYC for the first time early April 2011, two adults two teenagers. Overall we would strongly recommend BEYC as a destination. The scenery, water-related activities, and people were wonderful. As with any resort, it wasn't perfect but the positives far outweighed the occasional negatives. Positives - the staff with few exception (rare cleaning staff were less than pleasant) were pleasant and helpful, the outdoor activities - scuba diving, snorkeling, boating were great; the half-day and day trips were very enjoyable, some aspects of the dining were very good, it was quieter and more tranquil than most caribbean vacation sites. Negatives - the menu choices were limited at times, through probably our own fault we were a bit confused whether to tip or not. Regardless strongly recommend the place to travelers, we greatly enjoyed our time there. Met numerous familes coming back for repeated visits. Might easily be the most scenic part of the caribbean we have seen.

I just returned from our 3rd family trip to Bitter End Yacht Club and once again, it exceeded our expectations. You just cant beat Bitter End for its outstandingly beautiful location, myriad of watersports activities for the entire family, friendly conscientious service, great fresh, healthy food and chic beachfront rooms with hammocks and never ending breeze to lull you to sleep. It quite literally is the most perfect place for our family.

We start our day with a hike over the mountain to "earn our breakfast" and then continue the activities until sundown. Our kids were really into kayaking and paddle boarding this year, while I took kite boarding lessons and my husband exhausted himself windsurfing. Our vacation activity ADD syndrome was in full effect as the we continuously asked the ever-friendly and enthusiastic watersports staff to rig up new equipment for us, which they did quickly and happily. You just dont get that at many other places, in a setting as beautiful North Sound.

Tracy, the kids camp counselor was great at directing the kids through excursions and activities that allowed our kids to have their own time away from us, while we took advantage of the free hours to do activities without them, or just rest.

This year we did the day trip to Anegada, while previous years we went to The Baths. We found Anegada a tad bit overrated. But still you cant fault the Bitter End staff for any aspect of the efficiently planned and executed trip which went off like clockwork despite heavy winds and high seas. We love Captain Qinto and his team.

We snorkled in a new location this year on the Ponce De Leon and saw some amazing things, not seen before: 2 giant tuna right under the snorkle boat and we swam with a turtle for about 5 minutes which is really quite rare. Usually they dart away very quickly when you see them.

No place is perfect, so in the spirit of full disclosure I will admit that there were a few small hiccups with our 2 beachfront rooms none of which adversely affected the amazing vacation we had. There was small lizard trapped in our room who left unappealing droppings on our bedspread in the afternoon 2 days in a row. Once I called Maintenance they responded right away and tried to catch it. Not sure if they did or not but didnt see droppings after that. Also, my kids were bitten by bugs in their room at night. Nothing terrible. But a bit worrisome. Maintenance offered to spray pesticide but I was worried about the chemicals so I asked that they wait till we leave to do it.

All in all, it was a great trip that left us wanting more. Already trying to plan when we can return for trip #4.

Room Tip: Beachfront villas have best view, breezes, decor.

Our family on many occasions has come to the Bitter End Yacht Club. We've arrive by sailboat, the ferry as well as a flight with Captain Anegada into the Virgin Gorda airport. There used to be a great island bar next to the runway that served Painkillers to give you courage when using this airport, but sadly it didn't survive the "renovation" of the Virgin Gorda airport.

When we had stayed on our previous trips to BEYC, we stayed in the Beachfront Villas. This year we booked a North Sound Suite. Upon checking in and arriving to the unit (very long cart ride) shock is a mild response. These rooms are a throw back to the bad 70's motel. I mean really bad. The staff was amazing and transferred us immediately to the Beachfront. If one had not been available I'm afraid we would have left the property. I understand that the North Sound rooms have not been renovated, but the quality is so below what you expect for $1000 per night. The Beachfront Premium Villa rooms only cost an extra $175 per night and are worth every penny. (please note our rating is for the Beachfront not the North Sould Suites)

Bitter End Yacht Club is a truly amazing family resort. Everyone that is part of the staff makes your trip absolutely wonderful. Our Autistic son participated in the kids programs everyday and the watersports staff made his vacation into one that memories are made from. We met so many wonderful families who were at the Bitter End for their vacations and the environment that is created by Mary Jo and her team makes this happen.

We don't want to discourage anyone from going to Bitter End because it's such a magical place. We think everyone should know there is a drastic difference in the accommodations and know that the Beachfront Villas are the way to go.

Bitter End Yacht Club is a fun place to vacation with family. The rooms are basic but comfortable, the food is great and the staff is friendly and accomodating. The facility is just a little tired and in need of modernizing, but the beaches and water sports are amazing. Don't count on a gym or other amenities but go prepared to sail, swim and lounge in the sun. The scuba staff is world class!
We found ourselves wishing for some sign of *eco friendly* land use, such as solar water heaters or responsible trash management, but that theme doesn't seem to feature in the BVI overall. The resort was mostly clean, though there was a substantial amount of trash on the beach and in the landscaping in the less-travelled parts of the resort. It was clear that some buildings on the resort are not currently in use, notably the Carvery Restaurant which is still featured on the website. The pool area is tired and the menu is very limited, so don't count on lounging poolside.
The watersports are fantastic and for the most part the equipment is well maintained and carefully selected. There isn't much for teens to do, apart from water sports and it would be nice if there was a small basketball court or *dry* way to get some exercise. The website lists an exercise area, but in reality that is a much-neglected patch of bare ground adjacent to the maintenance yard and dock, devoid of equipment or a clean place to lay down a yoga mat.
Many rooms are accessible only by a long hike up steep stairs, so book carefully if you have mobility problems. The rooms are charmingly basic, comfortable and spacious with amazing views. The hammocks on each deck are a great way to snooze away the after lunch stretch. If you are fussy about bed pillows take your own.
The biggest blight on the landscape is the absolutely horrific development of Saba Rock, just in front of Bitter End. There is a bar, restaurant and rooms crammed onto a tiny island plop right in front of Bitter End, and the resulting night time noise and boat traffic is nasty. Try to get a room at the end of the resort away from Saba Rock.
Meals are casual buffet-style for the most part. The food is fresh and nicely served with a smile.

We just got back from a fantastic week @ BEYC. We stayed @ the Beach Front Cottages & like other reviewers, there is no need for a/c w/ the ample breezes. We travelled with another family of 4 and all 8 of us had the best vacation that we ever had. The accommodations were great. The staff was courteous, attentive & very knowledgeable. There were ample Hobie Cats, Lasers , Boston Whalers, paddle boards that we never had to wait @ all the entire week for anything. I cant' say enough positive things about BEYC. Only 51 weeks to go before we check in to paradise again....
