First a quick comment about Gino. Just a wonderful gentleman, great personality, and very, very helpful before and during our stay. When planning a trip like this communication is key. Gino is on top of everything including our car rental. Also a big thank you to Chudney from L&S, what a super guy.. Gino's also extremely knowledgeable about the entire island so pick his brain about where to go and what to see.
As for our stay at Mango Bay, we were in unit 14, beachfront, which was spectacular. You can't beat this location. The beach was virtually empty and it's a beautiful beach to the north. I thought we would head up that way often but we ended up being very happy to just hang out close to our unit in the chairs and the shade. I was worried about this being a West facing beach (not having shade) but it wasn't an issue as the sun is really to the south this time of year and there are enough Palms to shade you. You can also snorkel right off the beach 15 feet from you door if the winds are calm. Our first day they were up and visibility was poor. Then we decided to head over to Spring Bay (another super spot) more protected from the winds for a day or two before coming back and trying our beach again. After the winds calmed the snorkeling was super! No turtles or rays at Mango though (on our trip). Gino also supplied snorkel equipment which was in good shape.
As for the unit itself, the accommodations were clean and tastefully done. It's a minimalists unit which is great. We did use our AC at night. You're going to want to keep your screens shut at all times and have bug spray on hand. This was the only real drawback of Mango. The Mosquitos were bad. It's not enough to not want to come back but all four of us battled them daily, especially in the early morning and evening hours. We also had a Bite Stick on hand which gave us just a bit of relief.
The beds were good, which is really important to us. Pillows could have been upgrades. One of our showerheads was new, the other was 20 years old and needed to be changed out. Not sure why the inconsistency? Also, you'll want to keep all of your food items in the fridge. Things like crackers and cereal were sniffed out quickly by the tiniest of bugs and had to be thrown away. Don't leave any food lying around. Overall, this is a spectacular place and we will definitely be back. We loved our unit, Gino, and VG as a whole. You can't get better accommodations any closer to such a beautiful beach as Mango Bay. Bravo Gino! And thank you so much for everything!
