First a quick comment about Gino. Just a wonderful gentleman, great personality, and very, very helpful before and during our stay. When planning a trip like this communication is key. Gino is on top of everything including our car rental. Also a big thank you to Chudney from L&S, what a super guy.. Gino's also extremely knowledgeable about the entire island so pick his brain about where to go and what to see.

As for our stay at Mango Bay, we were in unit 14, beachfront, which was spectacular. You can't beat this location. The beach was virtually empty and it's a beautiful beach to the north. I thought we would head up that way often but we ended up being very happy to just hang out close to our unit in the chairs and the shade. I was worried about this being a West facing beach (not having shade) but it wasn't an issue as the sun is really to the south this time of year and there are enough Palms to shade you. You can also snorkel right off the beach 15 feet from you door if the winds are calm. Our first day they were up and visibility was poor. Then we decided to head over to Spring Bay (another super spot) more protected from the winds for a day or two before coming back and trying our beach again. After the winds calmed the snorkeling was super! No turtles or rays at Mango though (on our trip). Gino also supplied snorkel equipment which was in good shape.

As for the unit itself, the accommodations were clean and tastefully done. It's a minimalists unit which is great. We did use our AC at night. You're going to want to keep your screens shut at all times and have bug spray on hand. This was the only real drawback of Mango. The Mosquitos were bad. It's not enough to not want to come back but all four of us battled them daily, especially in the early morning and evening hours. We also had a Bite Stick on hand which gave us just a bit of relief.

The beds were good, which is really important to us. Pillows could have been upgrades. One of our showerheads was new, the other was 20 years old and needed to be changed out. Not sure why the inconsistency? Also, you'll want to keep all of your food items in the fridge. Things like crackers and cereal were sniffed out quickly by the tiniest of bugs and had to be thrown away. Don't leave any food lying around. Overall, this is a spectacular place and we will definitely be back. We loved our unit, Gino, and VG as a whole. You can't get better accommodations any closer to such a beautiful beach as Mango Bay. Bravo Gino! And thank you so much for everything!

Room Tip: Loved room 14, and 15 would be super as well (this are connected). They non-beachfront units looked...

We came with a large group and occupied several villas. The Resort was simple but clean. We had one of the beach front villas that worked well for hosting the meals for the group. Every one had fun, relaxing or snorkeling. There was also the free option to kayak, which was nice. Gino was helpful in showing us to our rooms as well as giving us tips on where to eat and what to go see.

I can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was at Mango Bay Resort. We went for 2013/2014 New Years and stayed in unit 9 for the week. Right on the beach - amazing waking up and falling asleep to our view.
I can't say one single thing bad about our stay just a few things you should know.

1. There are no locks on the doors so just know that it is a very safe place and they claim to have no need for locks. We felt extremely safe although i would not leave my 15 year old daughter on the living room sleep sofa - i chose to have a roll a way bed put in our room so she could be in there with us.

2. The only A/C is in the bedroom in this unit. (number 9 on the water) For us it was fine because temps were mild but in the summer i wonder if that would have been uncomfortable. I guess it depends on your tolerance to the heat. I live in Florida so the humidity , we are used to. The A/C in the bedroom is ARCTIC - so don't worry about that. We froze at night - was hard finding a perfect temp and the blankets were paper thin so wishing i had brought my big down comforter. I do take my own sheets when we travel because i like more than zero thread count sheets.

3. Take bug repellant and wear it often. You don't think you are getting bit but you are. Skin so soft is perfect - you can buy it in the marina store down the way - but bring it if you can so you are prepared. When you go out and about you will see the tourists with bug bites all over them. My daughter got several - i stayed sprayed down most of the time so didn't get many.

4. There is not much in the way of grocery shopping. One store at the marina 5 or so miles away. Not cheap and the only meat that looked decent to me was the steak so most nights when we cooked at home it was steak. My husband did find what he called their "costco" but said it was pretty weak as well.

5. Gino is amazing. Ask him for anything and he will get it for you.

All in all our stay was amazing. Very clean unit - had two bathrooms which was nice since our daughter was with us. I would highly recommend.

Room Tip: we stayed in villa 9 which i believe is amazing, right on the water.

We had a fantastic time at Mango Bay, but it is fair to say that it is not for everyone. It is a tiny bit quirky, and very simple. It really only makes sense if you are hiring a car (which, btw, we did through L&S, their recommended car service- which worked out really well). On the other hand, we found Gino to be a very genial host, the staff responded quickly and efficiently to any small requests we had, and the snorkeling right outside the front door was fantastic. We also liked that the location was handy to both the south and north ends of the island.

Mango Bay provides beach towels, and will loan snorkeling gear. The kitchens have all the necessary dishes, pots, etc.,, but you will need to get your own food, paper towels and charcoal briquettes. We liked the selection at the grocery at Leverick Bay, Bucks at Gun Bay (but not so much at the Yacht Harbor) and the Supa Value down near the airport (esp for frozen food). Our kitchen was quirky- the main kitchen was outside, while the fridge was inside!- but we were eating outside all the time anyway.

Complaints about mosquitos are well-founded, but we found that mosquito repellent and coils helped a lot (we brought some, but it turns out you can buy them in the grocery at Leverick Bay).

We stayed in an ocean view duplex, which worked out perfectly. This is a great resort for people who want a low-key getaway. Definitely worth it!

We stayed in a Garden Studio at Mango Bay and loved it. We enjoyed being close to the beach with good snorkeling and the free use of kayaks. One day we kayaked over to Savannah Bay. The beach was great, and the snorkeling was even better than Maho Bay . We enjoyed our kitchenette. We were able to prepare breakfast and easy meals in the room. The studio was spacious and nicely furnished. We will definitey stay there again when we visit Virgin Gorda.

Well appointed villas, great sunsets, excellent snorkelling right off the beach. No Pool, restaurant or central area. Our family group rented several villas, and the lack of distractions meant that we spent a lot of quality time together, cooking meals and hanging out. Much appreciated.

Thank you for your comment. We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at Mango Bay as the rest of your group did. It is unfortunate that you were not informed by the person that booked for the entire group that we do not have a restaurant on site. Although handy, it would bring more traffic and outside guests; our guests come to us precisely seeking the peacefulness of this area that being only 2 miles away from town is secluded and tucked away from the noise and crowds. We also have safes in all rooms and provide keys for locking the doors upon request for whoever feels that needs them. We do apologise if you were not treated with politeness, we pride ourselves of our excellent service and this should not have happened.
