Fischer's Cove Beach Hotel
Ranked #5 of 7 Hotels in Virgin Gorda
Reviewed October 9, 2009

If you're looking for a nice and easy, no-frills, get-away to the british virgin islands, then you should definitely check out Fischer's Cove on Virgin Gorda. Beautiful sunsets from private beach, very hospitable staff, silent and peaceful nights, basic yet very clean rooms, perfect location. While we were staying at Fischers Cove we did not rent a car, nor did we ever need to hire a taxi while getting around Spanish Town and the southern part of the island; we really enjoyed walking everywhere: the Baths (absolutely pristine), the old copper mill, the grocery store at the marina, and the wonderful local eateries. There is not much in the way of nightlife, which was also a bonus for us since our priority for this particular trip was to spend quality time together, distraction-free. It was a wonderful trip, a wonderful place to stay. Thank you Fischer's Cove.

Fischer’s Cove was just what we expected. Basic, but very comfortable. We stayed in the Garden view hotel room with AC. I have no idea how those who didn’t have AC did it! It was very humid and we knew we wouldn’t be able to sleep without the AC. The room consisted of a double bed, side table, min-fridge, small 13 inch TV with basic cable, Dresser, and 1 chair. The bathroom was small but functional. The AC worked great. We had no problems with the room, but keep in mind that it is very basic.

The staff were all very friendly. Some of them were on Island time, but that is to be expected. We ate breakfast at the restaurant each morning, except for one when the “chef” did not show up on time. The listed hours had it opening at 7am, but we never had anyone arrive until 8:30 at the earliest. The Mango dipped French Toast was wonderful! We had it every morning. We ate there one evening for dinner. The appetizers were amazing, but the fish we ordered had no taste. We were going to give them another try for dinner, but we had too many other places we wanted to try. The maids were outstanding!

The beach was very nice. We walked and looked for shells every morning. The snorkeling was fair from the shore. One word of warning. If you rinse your feet in the basins that are on the grounds, hang on! They are very slippery and my wife slipped and fell while rinsing her feet. We found out today that she fractured her tail bone. Nothing they can do about it, but I’m just saying…. Hang on to something! LOL

Over all we enjoyed our stay at Fischer’s Cove and we had a great time there.

We had a fantastic experience staying at Fischers Cove Beach Hotel this past weekend to celebrate my 21st (wink, wink) Birthday. I had never traveled to Virgin Gorda previously though we live in Puerto Rico which is so close..From the start for booking all my telephone and email contacts with Fischers managers Dawn and Angella were perfect. Both these ladies were lovely with quick replies and excellent advice for my birhtday get away.
We arrived easily from Tortola, took the North Sound ferry which Angella had so kindly reserved for us. We were met at the ferry by a charming gentleman and his cute taxi. The town Spanish Town is quaint, small and a perfect spot to have as home base especially Fischers Hotel...the grounds are so pretty with numerous nooks and quiet spots to relax in the hammocks or adorable brightly colored chairs and benches. The office and resturant building are similarly colofrul in great isldna festive colors and materials but the VIEW...amazing. They have this great big covered deck area with a sitting room expanse to die for...a bar and resturant that are wonderful within steps of the waters edge. We were shown to our room and I was soooo pleasantly surprised at the accomodations especially surprised to find that Dawn and Angella had kindly put a b-day card and bottle of white wine with two glasses bedside for us! Such thoughfullness.
The room is large with a great fun motif of paintings , homemade, that have sea things as 3 dimensional elements. The bed itslelf was very comfy, the wall ac unit worked perfectly, the bathroom had a nice sized shower stall and decent water pressure every time we used it. I slept so well and woke each day so rested , relaxed more and more. Our wall tv worked well but we did not use it. The cleaning staff did a great j9b each day and we never felt rushed or harried at anytime. There is also a small patio in front of the first floor motel unit we had with two chairs to relax and a drying rack which came in so handy after our adventures off swimming and snorkeling.
The location in relation to Trunks bay and the baths was such a perfect pleasant walk about 20 or so..We took a jeep for the latter half of our visit to explore some secret beach tips we got from the Fischers folks...(Savannah Bay..exquisite).
All in all I was impressed with the entire place and will definately return to Virgin Gorda and for certain stay at Fischers Cove beach Hotel again.
It was just delightful!

My daughter and I stayed here for a week after spending a week on Tortola for my other daughter's wedding. We were surprised at how much less busy this island is and that the main street was just a few restaurants.

Our first night we had a huge cockroach in our room that scared the living daylights out of us. Angela and Esther came to the room and sprayed it down and offered us another room. When we went to check out that room, another cockroach ran across the floor as soon as the lights went on. I was freaked out and Angela felt so bad. We slept with the lights on that night in our original room and the next day she had workers spray down another cabin for us and made sure that all the screens were on tight. We moved into that cabin, an upgrade of two rooms, and never saw another roach. When we checked out, they gave us the first night for free because "you didn't have a very good night."

Despite that experience, we loved this place. The beach is fabulous and private [although people do sneak onto it from time to time] with lots of beach glass to comb for. The grounds are immaculate and there are hammocks strung between palm trees. Evenings spent in the lounge watching the sunset from rocking chairs and then reading or playing cards was sublime. It is an easy walk to the grocery store at the marina and we walked to The Baths in 30 minutes.

It was a fantastic deal for the price and I would not hesitate to go back.

We decided to getaway to Virgin Gorda from Tortola's never ending cruise ship nightmare. A couple days of absolute peace and quiet...that is what Fischer's Cove offers. The rooms are immaculately clean and have all the amentities that you need. A nice private beach and the food is outstanding. I can't say enough about the service that Dawn and Angie give. You are totally at ease the minute you arrive and regret not booking longer when the time comes to leave....

Great location for exploring, you are in the mist of everything!!!!

We recently stayed at Fischer's Cove and had an absolutely wonderful one week vacation. Fischer's Cove had well kept grounds, a clean room, a decent beach, a nice restaurant (a sunset view to die for) and is owned by some of the nicest people you are ever going to meet. My luggage was lost by the air lines en route to St. Thomas. Rather than have me worry about the luggage Angella (the owner) told me not to worry about it and that she would contact the airlines and airport for me. To make a long story short I am quite certain that I would not have received my luggage as soon as I did without her efforts. Thanks Angella!

Other things about Fischer's Cove:
-Within walking distance of Spanish Town and its restaurants. We felt safe walking at night to and from restaurants after having a couple of beers.

-Beach towels and a small cooler (4 cans + ice) are provided
-One of the best sunsets ever! The sun sets over Tortola and surrounding islands.

About Virgin Gorda:
We rented a jeep the entire time and brought a soft shell cooler. We rented snorkel equipment from the marina for the entire week. Every morning we would pack the cooler with ice, water, sandwiches and 2 beers for the sunset. We would go to whatever beach we felt like going to and leave whenever we wanted, no schedules!

The beaches here were to die for. Some of the best water I have ever seen. Great snorkeling right off the beach and great clear shallow sandy water that was perfect to go swimming in. You could drive a ton of different beaches and most of them had a short trail from the small parking lot to the beach. Our favorite beaches were Savannah, Spring Bay, Devils Bay, Maho Bay, Little Trunk Bay, etc. Basically you need to go check them all out. Our favorites were Spring Bay and Savannah. Savannah had nice palapas along the beach that you could lay a towel under and get some much needed shade.

Things you must do:
1) Lay around Savannah Bay
2) Hang out at Spring Bay
3) Snorkel at the Baths early (very dramatic with the huge rocks in the water. We saw a ton of fish too!)
4) We rented a dinghy from Leverick Bay for $90. This was our best day on the island. Pack a cooler and bring your snorkel gear. You can check out every island in the north sound except Necker Island. This was absolutely a beautiful day. We started at the west end of the sound and went east all the way to Oil Nut Bay.
5) Trail to summit of Mount Virgin Gorda. A great view in all directions

Three of us (single females) shared a cottage for a week which was very spacious and comfortable. The grounds are very well tended, yet natural to the surroundings...lots of lizards, friendly hens and chicks.A lovely clean beach with shallow waters to loll in just yards away, and virtually deserted. We had many good meals at the restaurant within the complex. The starter Shrimp 'something' is excellent, as too are the breakfasts...particularly the 'Full English.' The staff were excellent, friendly & informative. The cottages are cleaned daily. (When you are not about.) and our young cleaner was delightful. Walking to Spanish town takes 10-15 minutes & there you have a choice of more places to eat/ a good supermarket/ shops, plus good live music. We saw a brilliant act at the 'Chez Bamboo.'
I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
The second week we sailed - seeing all the other islands in the BVI - Paradise!
