The trip started off on a bad note. you learn very quickly that the way off life there is not like anything you've ever seen before. The ferry's from island to island leave only when there ready. so because you have a schedule doesn't mean they do. our final ferry bringing us to Leverick bay decided they didn't want to make the trip, because there was only three of us. Luckily for my new wife and I the other person waiting with us had a family business on the island, it just happen to be a Charter company. The man made a phone call and with in 20 minutes his brother was there with a 25 ft fishing boat and kindly invited us along for the ride to the bay. When we arrived at the villa ( Oran Na Mara ) around 9 p.m. the view was awesome. Since we were starving, we drove down to the leverick bay restaurant , the downstairs one. the pizza was great. we tried the upstairs restaurant one night and it was waaaaaay to expensive. well over 100 dollars for two people and the food was very forgettable , after that we went downstairs and ate there, finally got full and enjoyed the food. We stayed there for 9 days and it was a Trip Of a Lifetime. We will return !!!!!!!!!!! Best places to eat, Rock Cafe, Dog and Dolphin Bar, Bitter End , and Saba Rock.

We loved the Leverick Bay. Aware that their hotel rooms were among the more affordable ways to stay on Virgin Gorda, we were not expecting 5-star accomodations, but we were very pleased with what we found. Our room was bright, roomy and clean with a gorgeous view from the balcony. The office was very together, answering our earlier e-mails promptly; the room charge included all taxes and other charges. The restaurant by the water's edge was a fun casual reasonably priced spot. It was nice having a few stores including a grocery store for yachties right there too. Finally, it's a gorgeous scenic drive from the Valley up and over the big hill to North Sound. After you get to the top and start to decend, there's a breathtaking view of the entire sound including a few out-islands and many sailboats. The final part of the drive includes driving down through sweet old West Indian bungalows on the hillsides, with the occasional little church, herd of white goats, or colorful wooden bars scattered here and there. Leverick Bay is at the end of the line at the very bottom. We'd stay there again in a second.

We spent 3 nights at this resort, 2 on a boat in the marina and 1 in a hotel room. We had planned on 3 nights in the boat, but gave up after the 2nd night of being tossed around by waves. Having said that, it was probably one of the nicest marina's we've been too. Stationary docks saved our lives the 2nd night when we eventually moved our cushions onto them and slept under the stars, the facilities at the marina were very well appointed. We got a room for our last night for $149 US with 2 double beds and couldn't have been happier. Yes the steep climb up the hill was a killer, but who couldn't use a little more exercise for their behinds? Too bad the rooms don't have microwaves, that would have been awesome, but thankful for the coffee maker and fridge. Very expensive little grocery store on site, but typical BVI. Front desk staff not very friendly, but not unkind, just doing their jobs. We were there over Thanksgiving and I'm not impressed. At first they said their little restaurant would be open for regular service, then at the last moment they cancelled and said only their dining room would be open at an insane $49 a person. Needless to say, we didn't eat in the dining room that night. The kids enjoyed the pool and parents happy with just about everything else. We will be returning.

Several prior reviews refer to villas rented through the Leverick Bay Resort; my comments pertain to staying at the Resort, not a villa. Since my wife and I are very familiar with Virgin Gorda, for the purpose of our trip we found that staying there three nights (May ’07) was a great value. The room was clean, had a great ocean view and the air conditioning, small refrigerator and cable TV worked fine. Having high-speed wireless Internet in the room was a big plus (bring your own laptop) and the staff was most friendly. (PS- The rooms are high up on the hill…be prepared to climb stairs.)

That said, when you visit Virgin Gorda you need to know what you are getting into. Leverick Bay has a couple of shops, a small grocery store, coin-op laundry and a very reasonable restaurant with a swimming pool free for patrons - with a great bar in the late afternoon. There is a second restaurant above the Pussar’s store, but dishes are US$30-40; on a Saturday evening we considered going there, but the piano entertainer was playing to a total audience of two people thus we walked out. There is also an ‘Internet café’ – US$5/15 minutes. Oh, and a half-block away from the wind at the waterfront… the heat is dreadful.

So, why did we go there? To rent a Jeep and spend each day exploring the beaches on the part of the island where you can drive, which we hardly knew before. (Our prior visits to the North Sound area have been while sailing, not land tours, and we knew Spanish Town was not worth visiting.) Other’s go there as a jumping board to rent watercraft, get picked up for scuba diving trips, etc. I understand that other resorts on North Sound (Bitter End and Saba Rock) will provide ferry service if you wish to go there for dinner - check it out.

By the way, depending on the purpose of your visit, make sure you understand the location of the other resorts on Virgin Gorda. Best to have a 4WD to get to places like Nail Bay and Mango Bay; once you are there I would not want to go elsewhere for dinner and drive back at night. In my prior review of Little Dix Bay I described why I thought it was way over-rated.

Our Verdict? Our next visit to North Sound will again be on a charter sailboat – fabulous! Beaches like Savannah Bay don’t even begin to compare with the beaches in St John & St Barths… yet the villa rentals in Virgin Gorda are in the same price ballpark….

We rented Sea Dream in Leverick Bay Resort for a week in April. The house is decent. It definitely needs some work. We had no phone and no hot water for four days. Eventually it was all fixed but the front desk was not helpful at all. Yes, even rude at times. Monica asked us our agency rented us the wrong house. (Yes Monica, they rented us one with hot water and a phone.)

We rented this villa because we liked the idea of being at the resort. However, to call it a resort is a gross exageration. It is not much more than a dock with an office. The office closes sporadically throughout the day, and often early. And this was key to us as we had no phone. We asked them to make several calls for us and leave us a note...after they readily agreed...nothing.

The beach is tiny. And there are all sorts of trucks and deliveries coming in and out all day.

If you are renting a villa I would not recommend being on this end of Virgin Gorda. All the nice beaches are on the other side and you waste lots of time driving everywhere.

I would come here and rent a speedboat for the day from the watersports area. It is easy to drive and you get to see so much that you can't access from land. You can take it to BEYC or Saba Rock for lunch. We even went to Necker Island.

We just returned from spending 2 weeks on virgin gorda and stayed at the spy glass villa, which is rented thru leverick bay resort. the views are amazing 200 plus degrees from the patios, porches pool. we had our 3 yr old girl with us, she loved it. we rented a car and went over the hill to savanah beach, spring bay next to the baths, spanish town, and many other shops and restaurants. the resort is nice and everyone was friendly, we are low maintenance people and entertain ourselves so we easily got into the flow of the island. rented a boat to explore north sound about every other day. saba rock, sand box on prickly pare, (nicest beach in north sound), bitter end yacht club, snorkeling on the reefs, we really enjoyed sitting on the veranda at the villa and watching the amazing boats and activities happening in the north sound, sunsets and sunrises, star gazing, view of anegada/northsound at night with cocktails. the beach at levrick is small , but nice for a 3 year old to play while you eat lunch, the pool is nice, fridays is a fun barbeque on the beach, wed. is reggae night, we miss it all ready, we highly recomend spyyglass and leverick bay for a base for the north sound watersports.

We arrived via the ferry that took about 40 minutes I believe. With 2 kids we did not expect much corporation, but they were both so enthralled at the sites and beautiful colors that all they could do was to point out things to us along the way.

The rooms are up the hill - a quick walk to the beach and to the grocery store - again, with kids if they did not mind walking it, then you will not mind it either.

The pool was beautiful, warm and relaxing. The rooms had AC which was needed in May. You can rent a boat and do water sports when you are staying there. You can also rent a car right from the office and drive around the island - make sure to go to the baths!

There is not much of a beach front area to swim in, but enough to layout and catch some rays.

You can also grab a quick/free ferry to Saba rock, which was nice - get the mussels if you go!
