The ONLY reason for #3 rating=
First of all, we have been coming here for 22 yrs after getting married here 11/15/91. It has ALWAYS been a very relaxing trip with amenities galore... This trip was a little different...
We had requested a Tree House (still advertised on their website) but when got here all of the Tree Houses were under renovation so they "upgraded" us to an Ocean Cottage. What they didn't tell us was we were sandwiched between one Tree House acting as their supply building and the other Tree House that they hammered and jack hammered everyday starting at 8AM! We had an outdoor shower that the workers would stand just outside of it and talk- very invading. AND- the Tree Houses are delightfully built in an octagonal shape with glass walls on all sides but one- BUT, we had workers constantly walking just outside them going to the supply building so NO privacy if you didn't keep your curtains shut but wanted sunlight in your room (and who doesn't since you come to the Caribbean for that!)
Now, this complaint is only about the location of our room... EVERYTHING else was perfect! Food fabulous, staff very friendly, workout facility awesome, etc.
Just wanted to give a heads up that if you're booking or coming - request a place AWAY from ANY construction! Otherwise can be VERY annoying and not restful....

Went to LDB for our honeymoon a few weeks ago. We stayed in one of the beach cottages and, as described, it was literally 20 steps away from the beach. The resort was very quiet, probably because our stay was towards the end of the busy season. We'd often have a whole stretch of the beach to ourselves.. Where to start?..

We flew into SJU then took a really short Cape Air flight to Tortola. Upon getting off the plane and going through customs, there was a guy running a pretty typical "porter" scam. Having travelled a lot I knew what he was doing, trying to get us to let him carry our luggage, claiming to be from our resort. Thankfully though, he was polite and left us alone when I made it clear that we weren't interested. Afterall, LDB said someone would be waiting for us who knew who we were. This guy didn't have a resort name on his uniform and didn't know who we were. Sure enough, right on the other side of the door was a rep from LDB waiting to take our bags. We had to wait for about 20 minutes as another couple who had just arrived on a different flight (more on them later) handled a missing baggage situation. No biggie. The shuttle from the airport took us about 1/4 mile to the dock (literally takes about 1 minute) where a ferry was waiting with cocktails and friendly staff. The same rep who greeted us at the airport rode the ferry with us and gave us our paperwork for our stay, effectively checking us in. The couple we took the ferry with was celebrating an anniversary and had been to LDB many many times (as seems to be common). They were very friendly and helpful, we ran into them many times throughout our trip.

We arrived as the sun was going down, got off the ferry and were able to go right to our rooms. No locks on the doors, as is well known, but an adequate safe for anything irreplaceable. We didn't have a single issue and came to enjoy not having to worry about having a room key all the time. We treated ourselves to the bottle of champagne that was waiting for us in the room, dropped off our bags and went straight to the beach. It was pretty wild -- the water in the bay is calm and clear and within 5 minutes of being in the water a huge sea turtle came up for air right next to us. They hang out in the bay every night eating sea grass. Pretty incredible.

We had a spa appointment on day one. The spa area and pool was incredibly nice as were the massages. We spent the next couple of days lounging and swimming. The restaurants on LDB are exactly what you'd expect. The Grill is casual and great for lunch (about $20-25pp for food). The Pavillion is a little less casual, a little pricier ($30pp for food), and good for a typical dinner. And the Sugar Mill is their nice restaurant (~$40pp for food). So, they have the standard range of options. All of the food is pretty good.

Unfortunately, we planned many of our big activities for later in the week -- we were going to tour the island, take a sunset cruise, and do a beach drop. Well it rained for about 48 hours straight and pretty much killed all of those plans. It was during that time that the only "downside" of the resort came to bare -- which really isn't its fault. But damn if that place isn't boring/maddening when its raining and there's nothing to do.. You start to notice any little thing that bothers you -- there was some construction going on in the neighboring treehouse bungalows. We hadn't really noticed it or paid it any attention the entire time we were there, but after being cooped in our room all day, it kinda started to annoy us. There was a small problem with our room service food that we normally would have shrugged off but, again since we were cooped up, it grated on our nerves a little. We brought it to management's attention and they went above and beyond to correct it.

Then, the sun came back out and the world was perfect again. We used the paddle boards and the hobie cats. We also did the Spring Bay/Baths BBQ beach drop. It was nice to be able to go to the Baths and Spring Bay and have a full fresh-grilled meal and staff at our service while we were there. HOWEVER, I don't get what the hype is about Spring Bay, and even the Baths for that matter. I know, I know, I'm probably a total exception here, but I preferred the beach/bay right outside of our room to Spring Bay.. and the Baths were kind of a let down.. Maybe it was because I kept hitting my head, but after a few minutes of walking around in there I was kinda like "take me back to LDB" hahah.

Even though we didn't get to tour the island fully like we'd planned, we still made a few small trips. We took a cab to CocoMaya for dinner (twice, it's really good and a nice break from the resort). The cab is only $8pp round trip -- no-brainer!! We also went to Hog Heaven when it was raining mainly to just get out of our room and do something ($24pp round trip cab ride). We were the only customers there but they fired up the grill for us and we had some great BBQ. Even with the clouds it was an unreal view. I definitely want to go back when the weather's nice.

Like I said, 5-star. Looking forward to going back as often as possible :)

Little Dix Bay has been on our bucket list for 22 years. My husband and I went at the end of October to celebrate our 25th Anniversary and I'm thrilled to share it exceeded our long-awaited expectations.

The natural astounding beauty of the beach, bay and surrounding hills are amazing. The water is crystal clear and ease of entry into the bay are unparalleled.... no rocks, broken shells, no sea weed... This is the first time on vacation that I didn't use the hotel pool! I liked that the room as 15 steps from the beach and they had float mats distributed throughout the beach so you didn't have to go to the beach activity center.

The reef kept my husband snorkeling for hours on end - sea turtles, stingray and all kinds of fish.

My husband is a very picky eater and the food was great both in the Pavilion and the Sugar Mill. The staff is very happy and delivers top notch service with a smile. The afternoon teas were wonderful. The only downside would be the price of wine - $14 a glass!!

We walked to town and bought wine (for the same amount as a glass) at Bucks Food Market in the Marina. We also liked that we weren't isolated to resort only eating options and highly recommend Fischers Cove for breakfast and The Rock - a piano bar and restaurant for dinner.

The water taxi ride to/from Tortola as nice and very clean. The chilled towels are a nice touch just like the Four Seasons.

No TV in the room was an enlightening experience - all good!

We will stay here again!

My wife and I recently visited Little Dix Bay and still love the resort as much as we did 6 years ago when we first visited this resort.

It is our favorite place on the planet.

The rooms are luxurious.
The Beach is spectacular and is not filled with people sitting on top of each other.
The Spa is second to none anywhere.
The food at the Pavilion, Sugar Mill and Beach Grill are always amazing.

We will not wait 6 years to get back the next time.

We have been to their resorts over the past 6 years and although they were nice they pale in comparison to LDB.

We had so many wonderful people who assisted us in our trip.

Geneva and Granvel were two who were worth mentioning due to their exceptional service during our stay.

Laurie has been there a long time as well and was always a gracious host when we would arrive for breakfast and dinner.

Thanks again to the entire LDB team for the most unbelievable vacation we could imagine.

Ed

We visited Little Dix Bay for 5 nights in May. It was absolutely the most beautiful place we've ever traveled to! As soon as we landed on Virgin Gorda, we were scooped up by our driver and immediately asked what kind of tropical beverage we would like waiting for us upon our arrival at the hotel. Our room was perfection - we stayed in a garden room but could still see some of the ocean from our balcony.

The beach was spectacular - the water is calm and crystal clear, and there's a reef a little ways out in the bay so we were able to snorkel and see some great wildlife - lots of colorful fish, a few sting rays and a very friendly and wonderful sea turtle that i loved! We saw him a few times throughout our trip!

We thought the food was great. We ordered room service a few times which was pretty good and averagely priced. The beach grill was good for lunch. The breakfast buffet was amazing, lots of choices! We ate at the Sugar Mill one night and it was incredible. Very romantic and the food was absolutely delicious.

At the beginning of our trip we decided to take a walk into town to the grocery store to stock up on some staples like liquor and snacks. The walk was a bit further than we anticipated, especially in such high heat. Definitely recommend taking a taxi if you're looking to do that.

The staff helped us out with a trip to the Baths, which was really wonderful. The boat pulls up right to the beach, they left us with an umbrella and cooler and such so that we could hang out there for as long as we needed. Make sure to tell the boat driver what time to pick you up so you aren't stranded there all day if you don't want to be! Also make sure you wear flip flops since there's some rock climbing action.

We also hiked Cow Hill, the view at the top was just beautiful. Definitely recommend it if you can handle the climb.

Overall, we very highly recommend this resort. It was the best place we've ever visited and we can't wait to go back!

Little Dix Bay is near Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. I'd never heard of the resort or the Island before we went, so I did not know what to expect. However, I have been to Hawaii, Bora Bora (Four Seasons) and Turks & Cacos recently, so they had a high bar to meet.

When we first arrived I was astonished by the beauty of the mountain and the gorgeous cove the resort sits within. Shortly after, I was shocked and annoyed by the lack of a tv in our room. However that wore off quick as I settle into a relaxing few days of the relaxing scenery, terrific food, (both room service and the restaurant), and even the included day trips. I also have to mention the coffee. The coffee they serve is the best I've ever had and since we've been home I've been ordering it and making it for myself.

We spent a week at Little Dix Bay for our honeymoon and couldn't have picked a more beautiful and tranquil place.

We had concerns about the resort being too crowded and not "secluded" enough for our honeymoon, but from the second they picked us up from the airport on Virgin Gorda, we were overwhelmingly taken care of.

I am already running out of adjectives. The beach is perfectly maintained, beach chairs are spread out, service is prompt, and we even were able to swim with turtles a few feet off the beach on 3 difference occasions.

Also, the beach drops are amazing. Other resorts offer motor boats to use as you please, but not having to fuss over the responsibility of our own boat and driving it was very satisfying. We spent a full day at a beach drop at Mountain Trunk Bay and had a ball.

A big, gigantic thanks goes to a few specific people who really went above and beyond at Little Dix Bay to make our stay something else: Denesha (may have spelled it wrong, sorry!) at the front desk was the best - she looked out for us and went above and beyond more than multiple times. Sharon worked at the beach grill and took drink orders on the beach - a lovely woman who kept us very happy during our stay. Terry was our attendant during our dinner on the beach and was incredibly attentive and kind. Tito, the taxi driver, provided great narration of the island and its history and was a lot of fun to be around.

Overall, book it, its easily worth it.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Junior Suite, #43. Only about 20 steps from the beach, and the porch looked directly...
