“Wonderful 1st Visit!”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

First visit to Little Dix Bay and it will not be the last! First the bad...it's not easy to get there. We flew into St. Thomas and took the ferry over to Virgin Gorda. Customs, as you can imagine, was disorganized and not a particularly great experience. I get the impression that if you fly into Tortola and let the Resort handle the pickup, it would be a much better experience. However, once we were there, it was a fantastic stay. We were greeted at the front desk by the Manager on Duty as well as the General Manager. Great first impression! The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Bathrooms are newly renovated and quite nice. The outdoor shower with the rainfall shower head was heavenly. There are no keys to your room. You can lock it from the inside, but not from the outside when you leave. This took just a little bit of getting used to, but we then found it very liberating. No keys to keep up with. There is a good-sized safe in the room for any valuables. Yes, food and drink are expensive, but typical of an upscale Caribbean Resort where most everything is imported. The in-house dive shop (which is actually a separate business, Dive BVI) was absolutely first rate. We found the staff to be friendly and genuinely interested in providing a good stay. We plan to be back again next year!

Room Tip: My friend and I had rooms 5 & 6, the treehouse rooms. I really liked being on the second floor...

Service is average, unrefined, and offered with too much attitude. Chaotic buffets abound.

Not a "diverse" clientele, so to speak; either honeymooners or grandparents prevail.

Be warned, this is not a gay-friendly destination.

Another important caution: immigration entering Virgin Gorda excruciatingly slow.

Be prepared to stand in line for over an hour without movement.

It seems that some people bribed their way to pass more quickly.

Otherwise, individuals will need approximately 15 to 20 minutes each to proceed through passport control.

Best resort experience ever. Previously did not like food anywhere in the Virgin Islands until we stayed here. Expensive but you forget about it because you actually enjoy the food and ambiance so much. Employees of the resort are kind and respectful and made you feel cared for. Everything that we wanted to do (beach bumming, snorkeling, water toys) was right there in the resort so even though they offered beach drops we only used it once. The resort was such a nice experience that we really just wanted to stay there.
Stayed at the Ritz Carlton in St Thomas for one night after our weeklong stay at Little Dix and the difference of quality and service were night and day. Made the Ritz look like a dump.

My wife and I were married at Little Dix Bay 7 years ago and decided it had been way too long since we had been back. We headed back with my 32 year old daughter and son in law for a week stay. We landed in St. Thomas and took a small plane (Island wings) to Virgin Gorda. Little Dix Bay helped with all the arrangements for this flight and made it very easy to do. They were waiting on us at the airport when we arrived. We booked a Jr. Suite (room #44) and it was spacious and appointed very well. We were on the beach (a 30 to 35 step walk from our room) almost every day and logged many hours "catchin rays" and snorkeling the coral reef that you can literally walk to from the beach. (The resort furnishes snorkel gear so no need to bring that along). We chartered with Josh Bourg at cruzinaway.com for two day trips and he took us to all the sights (The Baths / The Indians / Norman Island caves/ The Willy T / Jost Van Dyke beach bars / Necker Island / Bitter End Yacht Club / Biras Creek Resort/ Scub Island Resort / etc via his 26ft catamaran twin engine charter boat. This resort does a great job and deserves all the awards it has recieved. The staff is very accomodating and the food was top notch. The only caution I will give is this is not a cheap vacation. The price is very high however we feel it is worth every single penny! Thanks again LDB for a wonderful stay and I can promise you that we will be back soon!

I worked for months researching upscale resorts in the Caribbean. I finally chose LDB because my parents had been there years ago on an anniversary trip and had heard many wonderful stories.
We are used to bigger resorts and I was a little nervous not having TV( pathetic, I know). So, we went ahead and booked and made sure to download books and TV episodes on my mini.
We arrived via St. Thomas And spent the night at Marriott's Frenchmen's Reef the night before. The flight was short and beautiful. Tito met us at the airstrip and took us to LDB.. Best cabi ever, btw!
After previewing 3 rooms, we chose#36 beach cottage.. Just perfect with an outdoor shower( a Must for me!)
Some have reviewed that the food is like a cruise...not so!! They obviously don't cruise.. It is wonderful! We chose a package that just included breakfast, so we could venture out a couple of nights (coco maya!!!)beach grill is Devine !! The sangria is amazing!!
Must do's...Norman Island, Sunset Cruise, spa, jeep rental, the Baths, Saba Rock, lunch at Bitter End Yacht Club, private beach dinner( Magdalena is the best !!!!)

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Rosewood Little Dix Bay is currently closed for a comprehensive renovation and is scheduled to re-open in late 2017. The iconic Rosewood Little Dix Bay is currently closed for a comprehensive, multi-million dollar restoration, which will be the most substantial beautification project since the resort was founded by Laurance S. Rockefeller over 50 years ago. The restoration will include the complete redesign of the resort’s guestrooms and suites, its three restaurants and overall enhancements to the resort’s gardens and landscaping. New York City-based Meyer Davis Studio will lead the restoration, working alongside Miami-based architectural firm OBMI. Together these agencies will honor Laurance S. Rockefeller’s unique vision of a luxurious hideaway set amidst the pristine backdrop of Virgin Gorda. The renewal will bring about a new level of sophistication in keeping with the natural setting, whilst introducing brand new signature suites for the ultimate in relaxation and style. A rebuilt Beach Grill will offer a one-of-a-kind beach dining experience, while the iconic Pavilion and Sugar Mill buildings will remain intact but will feature extended indoor/outdoor dining areas. Guests will also enjoy an elevated arrival experience and the resort’s vibrant tropical gardens will be enhanced with new lighting, signage and improved access to Little Dix Bay beach. The renovation will also bring the addition of new restaurant concepts for The Pavilion, Beach Grill and Sugar Mill; new world-class amenities; elevated service standards and an increased focus on sustainability. Upon reopening towards the end of 2017, Rosewood Little Dix Bay will reaffirm its legacy as the Caribbean’s leading luxury resort. ... more   less
