“Little Dix in poor condition”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

The furniture in the public spaces is old and soiled. The food tastes like a cruise ship, but the staff is gracious and friendly. This resort is not at all as nice as in years past. I was not informed at the time of booking that the property had been sold to a chinese firm, obviously this is not for the better. It is reported the resort will close for several weeks at the end of August for repairs. Wish we knew mort about all this before we booked this trip. I have come to trust in Rosewood resorts over the years, but no more. Check to see if the rosewood resort you book is still owned by them as they have sold others as well.

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean views.

We stayed at this resort during the first week of June. Simply an excellent, top notch resort. all of the staff we very friendly and helpful. We arrived at VG airport via Air Sunshine from San Juan. Excellent service as well, but you need to like small airplanes! We were greeted at the airport by the driver named Tito. A friendly character. Right from our arrival we felt like everyone there treated us with their full attention. We arrived to check in early and our room was not ready yet. The staff gave us a tour of the property and made sure we were comfortable and well fed at the beach grill. We ate at 2 of the 3 resturants on site. The beach grill for lunches, and the Pavillion for breakfast and dinners. The food is very expensive, but every meal we ate was top quality. Once again the resturant was very accomodating for special requests. We stayed in room 59, barely 15 steps to the beach! The room was very clean and maid service came twice each day. Even your ice bucket gets replenished twice a day! There are no room keys, which seems strange at first, but one quickly realizes they are not necassary. There are locks for when you are sleeping, and a room safe for personal items. We did take a walk one morining into Spanish Town, which was dissapointing, but perhaps a taxi or tour of other parts of the island would have been fine. It was our main purpose to really just relax by the beach and enjoy time together, which is what worked fine for us. This time of year is also low season, so it was not crowded at all. At times we felt like we had the resort to ourselves, which was perfect !
We did not chose the meal plan, which worked out to be a better value for us.
Also, the fitness center was very nice, clean and convienient.
We are already planning our second visit next year !
Highly reccomended.

Room Tip: We had room 59 excellant location for beach, and out of the way of most boat traffic in and out of t...

This was our first experience at a Rosewood property, and it was lovely. The staff provided exceptional service, and attended to the little details to make the stay enjoyable. We used the beach drop service a couple of times, and the staff recommended snorkeling and beach locations, dropped us off on our schedule, and acted as tour guides while transporting us. The one bummer was that due to weather and waves, some of the catamaran trips were cancelled. However, the excursions office found us things to do anyway. We did not purchase an eating package, but found the coffee and rolls in the morning, and pastries and tea in the afternoon a good alternative to eating huge meals.

We both had a massage at the spa, and the massage therapist was great. So great I scheduled a second service.

Staff kindly pointed out Chester, the large barracuda that lives under the dock, and also identified a baby stingray that came in to the shore midday.

We left before our flight to spend some time on Tortola, and they kept our luggage in the office, and arranged transport to Road Town for us.

Staff were more accommodating than anywhere I have ever stayed. I can't wait to go back.

We've stayed at great beach resorts over the years, but this was our first time in the BVI and we're ready to book for next year's trip to Little Dix. Little Dix has, for us, the perfect ambience; comfortable, unassuming, but upscale and elegant, which sounds contradictory, but is a mix that somehow works.

We booked a 1 bedroom suite, which was perfect - close to the beach, large updated bathroom (icluding a great outdoor shower), spacious living room and bedroom. I would have been happy to move in permanently.

What makes Little Dix so great? The staff are very genuine; when they remember your name, you feel like they really do know who you are rather than being prompted by good software (which may be the case, but who cares). There is alternately lots or nothing to do. The Little Dix Bay beach itself is beautiful, and very uncrowded during our May visit, but the beach drops are really worth doing, since Virgin Gorda has an abundance of beautiful beaches. Day boat trips from Dive BVI are terrific, especially the trips to Anegada, the Indians and the Caves, and a not to be missed drink and jump from Willy T's.

There's a nice mix of guests - honeymooners, retirees, young families, sailors on a break - very convivial and international. The spa is also not to be missed; treatment rooms are high on a cliff and look out to the ocean.

While the full meal plan seems like a good deal, if you are going to take advantage of the beach drops, then go for the modified plan, since you can lunch at other beaches. Also, if the buffet has no appeal, you can get a simpler menu for dinner either for room service or at the bar. Food at the Sugar Mill is good, but not spectacular, but the setting is so great you probably won't care (we didn't).

One of the best beach vacations we've had; although we had never been there before, it felt like coming home.

After 25 years of visiting this resort yearly (recently for 6 weeks per year) we were sadly disappointed in our recent visit. Rosewood has been purchased by a Chinese firm and not (apparently) for the good. No Managing Director was running the place, and while rooms/cuisine/beach and restaurant service were uniformly excellent as usual, there was no feeling that constant, repeat customers were held in any esteem by what management was present. We hope this is only a transitory condition and we will return in August for another 2 weeks stay hoping for a return to the conditions and treatment we have grown accustomed to over the last decades.

Little Dix is by far our favorite place in the Caribbean. We feel it is like going to our second home. Our first visit was in 1990 for our honeymoon. We had a junior suite and it was spacious with a large bath, tub, shower and outdoor shower. A large porch with lounge chairs and table for outside eating faced the ocean. The food is always outstanding whether the Pavilion is serving and amazing buffet or the more intimate Sugar Mill's menu. We had every lunch at the Beach Grill and it was delicious. The white sandy beach and warm blue clear waters are stunning. We always rent a car and drive to our favorite places on the island like Leverick Bay, Spring Bay and Trunk Bay. The Yacht Harbor has some nice shopping in a small number of stores. Everyone in the BVI is very friendly and helpful. We have sailed the islands many times and have always had dinner at Little Dix and visited the spa even though we weren't staying there. We will always return to LDB..

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent. If you want to be near the Beach Club choose 35-48 and 29-34. Furthest away...

If you are looking for the ulimate relaxing and quiet vacation and getaway then this is it. Little Dix makes you feel like you are on your own private island. Everything was perfect from the location, the staff, service, accomodations, etc! Great place to spend quality time with the person you are there with and to hit the reset button. Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Rosewood Little Dix Bay is currently closed for a comprehensive renovation and is scheduled to re-open in late 2017. The iconic Rosewood Little Dix Bay is currently closed for a comprehensive, multi-million dollar restoration, which will be the most substantial beautification project since the resort was founded by Laurance S. Rockefeller over 50 years ago. The restoration will include the complete redesign of the resort’s guestrooms and suites, its three restaurants and overall enhancements to the resort’s gardens and landscaping. New York City-based Meyer Davis Studio will lead the restoration, working alongside Miami-based architectural firm OBMI. Together these agencies will honor Laurance S. Rockefeller’s unique vision of a luxurious hideaway set amidst the pristine backdrop of Virgin Gorda. The renewal will bring about a new level of sophistication in keeping with the natural setting, whilst introducing brand new signature suites for the ultimate in relaxation and style. A rebuilt Beach Grill will offer a one-of-a-kind beach dining experience, while the iconic Pavilion and Sugar Mill buildings will remain intact but will feature extended indoor/outdoor dining areas. Guests will also enjoy an elevated arrival experience and the resort’s vibrant tropical gardens will be enhanced with new lighting, signage and improved access to Little Dix Bay beach. The renovation will also bring the addition of new restaurant concepts for The Pavilion, Beach Grill and Sugar Mill; new world-class amenities; elevated service standards and an increased focus on sustainability. Upon reopening towards the end of 2017, Rosewood Little Dix Bay will reaffirm its legacy as the Caribbean’s leading luxury resort. ... more   less
